Just praying has a positive psychological effect. It seems to effect the brain in a meditative-state of manner. The problem is when people "pray" for things. Instead, when you pray, saying things like "I'm grateful for the positive things that happened to me today", it exerts its positive effects.

However, you are better off just meditating. Same effects and benefits.
