Not OP, but should I just not lift at all then, so far I've never lifted but tried other sports and exercises numerous times and they have never been fun long term.

Longest I ever stuck to something was 1 year of basketball and that only lasted as long because some of my friends were on the team aswell. I always was the worst of them though.

OP take this from a fellow robot- I've been lifting around 3 years now. If there's something to learn at the gym it is never to judge someone based on what they lift. You are there for YOU- judging a weak person at the gym is like judging a jobless person at the job centre. It is nonsensical. Trust me OP, get back in the gym and power through that shit. I see myself in you. My advice would be for you to check out a programme called stronglifts 5x5 (google it). Stick to that shit to the T and you will be out lifting most fucking chads. Good luck.

hey, I just started lifting too, and I got pretty mad the other day because my back was hurting from deadlifts (have to work on my form) and my shoulder was hurting on bench press.

But I realized there's no use getting pissed off at not being huge because it takes time and dedication. I'm going back tomorrow and I'm going to keep a positive attitude. Eat a lot, lift heavy, stay consistent and keep your discipline. Hopefully after a couple months I can see some solid progress.

Just keep at it, man. That guy probably gave you advice because he remembers when he started out lifting and he knows it isn't an easy journey.

Starting Strenght, Stripped 5x5 or Stronglifts 5x5 are good beginner routines for the basics. They are great because they actually make you stronger instead of meme-tier brosplits

Tired of hearing about people being too embarrassed to go to the gym, yeah you're a skeleton.. But you were there lifting, doing something about it. He respected you for that.

We all started somewhere, if I'd had been in there I would tried to give some advice myself. Because most people like you quit the first week, just stick through it man. You really got to have some motivation.

I was a little over 33% BMI, now i'm ripped. First month or so I could barely do one push up.


All I can say is IT GETS BETTER.

It becomes easier to do that push up, you get used to that "burn" that you probably hate.. You end up loving that burn, it means your making progress. Your pushing yourself, learn to love that feeling.

i have some weights my brother didn't use at home, so i started doing 5x5 Bench, Squat, Deadlift, OH Press, Bicep Curl and Bent over Rows every day but i could hardly bench 30kg to 5x5 without feeling like death and i felt so pathetic after a while i quit

Let me tell you a story, OP. Ya see, I've been lifting for a couple weeks and I'm no where near being where I want to be obviously. I was trying to get my fingerprint to register with the door lock so I could get out of the cold when this fuckin' Chad came over and let me in (he'd seen me in there before so he knew I wasn't a scumbag). After thanking him I walked into the main room and saw this fat guy, probably 19 or so, doing leg presses in a hoodie he had pulled over his head. Do you know what I thought when I saw that guy in the gym? I thought to myself, "Good for this guy. There's obviously something he isn't comfortable with in his physique so he's coming here at night just like me so that he can fix it." He was pretty nice too, popped his headphones out to ask if he could move a barbell loaded up for Deadlifts from in-front of the Squat rack (I know for a fact Chad left it there since I had to work in between his DL's two days prior) and I told him it wasn't for me so he was welcome to move it. After that we didn't speak to each other again, I did my half an hour of work and went home.

The moral of the story is, don't just assume people are judging you harshly for being at the gym and being weak. I still go late at night so I can do my 65lb Bench without being cackled at but honestly there might not even be a single person who would care during the day. Stick with it, robo-P. We're all gonna make it brah. that's when you'll start getting judged by the skinnyfats and skellys, like i do to that Chad who let me in
