Most posters will look at the replies it got (if any), realize everyone is talking down on that post, and will then proceed to join in on that exactly or just keep scrolling past the post. If I ever do look at comments, I have "don't show me comments with a score less than x" turned off, meaning I can still see comments with -500 downvotes, and I do always scroll all the way down to the downvoted comments just to put all sides into the same perspective, just like I do here.

You can't blame Reddit nor 4chan for this behavior. -Fucking retarded userbase on average. Lots of idiot underaged morons flaming and trying to get approval from others.

-Reddit is all about gaining a good reputation. That means idiots act not as themselves, but in a way that would earn them as much reputation as possible. That is - making stupid, unfunny, inane jokes which are completely out of context, shitposting, pretending to know something even though they don't.

-Voting system, as already mentioned. Any original opinions or novel proposals will get downvoted by a dumb, ignorant majority.

-A lack of anonymity. All your posts - an that you ever made - are visible to others, and are tied to your identity.
