>>26111165 why do you think this is true? if anything, intelligent people are even more likely to fall into the throes of extended apathy, what with the meaninglessness of existence being that much more apparent to the overly perceptive
Does anyone actually think of themselves as unintelligent? I've known some complete fucking morons in my time and all were as convinced as you or I that they have it all figured out. I think it's the same scenario as no one sees a villain when they look in the mirror.
>>26111246 This, desu. Everyone thinks they're smart, and if they say otherwise, they're being humble or modest, but deep downx they think they're smart.
In addition, people who fail at things usually make excuses like >I didn't try very hard >it was just rigged >I could have done well Or they go into it knowing they'll fail, because they can't deal with failure because they're smart and perfect.
>>26111483 >Normies think people who are quiet are automatically smart this so much. I'm the kind of dumbass who never gets what's going on in detective fiction and can't solve riddles, but "still waters run deep" and my peers always thought I was super smart.
These discussions are meaningless unless we define what we mean when we say intelligence, and that's extremely difficult to do. I know people who can solve equations I could never understand with 5 years of study, and they wouldn't be able to write a simple essay on the thematic merits of a piece of literature to save their life. Vice versa as well, obviously. There's pragmatic intelligence and there's esoteric intelligence (philosophers etc), people who can't perform simple functions like driving but could write a thesis on ideas beyond your comprehension 'falling into the mire while gazing at the stars'.
>>26111568 Because you weren't in the right class which you got out in because you didn't try hard enough right? That shit happens to people who are above average. Just because you are above average doesn't mean you are smart. You get pulled aside because you're too smart for the class you're in. Doesn't mean you're actually smart.
>Pass as in with a high score. >People with low scores generally consider themselves as failing the SAT.
you didn't deduce anything you stupid fucking faggot. all you did was explain what you meant in your original post about the SAT because you're too much of an idiot to articulate what youre trying to say
>>26111644 >>26111568 No, you're not. He just think he a the best because he has never consistently been the top or the greatest at anything. He blames that on the fact that he doesn't try or that the odds were stacked against him. Now he's just lazy and doesn't try because he can't stand to fail. But he's smart of course.
>>26111693 I haven't 'accomplished' anything but I know I am more intelligent than all of my peers. You see, when you're intelligent you can discern these sorts of things within 3 minutes of conversation with somebody. It's ridiculous how transparent people who aren't as smart as you are.
could you be more of a pretentious pseudo-intellectual. being able to "solve equations," which is a total misrepresentation of what goes on in stem, and write essays on literature are both skills that come with education. the only reason someone would be able to do one and not the other is that they actually study and practice the one they're capable of doing. obviously we're not talking about intelligence in the sense of education. we're talking about it in the more general sense like how it relates to reasoning and abstraction.
also, if you can't solve an equation with 5 years of study then youre fucking stupid.
>get MAOI upped, already on non-stim ADHD (guanfacine) >falling asleep more easily >a few drinks makes me pass out >feel kind of achy, a different kind of pain than usual >anxiety still through the roof but >getting stuff done more promptly >with candy or gum, working on homework for 1-3 hours, when it isn't crunch time >being a little more assertive Except for the general fatigue, this might be a good semester. I might see if the dose can be upped again, just to see what'd happen.
I still take melatonin for sleeping, but meds and classes are finally going together. Only took a decade.
Some people, most notably heavily autistic people, lack an intuitive understanding of certain concepts that otherwise come naturally. I don't understand why you don't feel this equally applies to everything else.
the original post was referencing equations that other people could solve but the poster claimed he couldn't solve with 5 years of study, and i'm entirely confident that if i were given a solvable equation and five years time to study how to solve it i would be able to.
i never claimed i would be able to solve "literally any math problem" because equations are not literally any math problem. i'm obviously not proving the riemann hypothesis. good job misrepresenting what i said in my post to make yourself feel superior though
Does anyone find it interesting that the one person who posted that is actually a proven and established "genius" made two posts and left? All the while everyone else started bickering and slap fighting about what intelligence really means?
Perhaps none of us are geniuses as we feel the need to exert our position over others? Could it be that as we are not truly what we think we are and our insecurity prevents us from leaving this petty matter alone?
the poster is only a "proves and established" genius in the sense that he did well on a test that measures something with a questionable relevance to actual intelligence. it doesnt mean he's ever actually done anything relevant
what the fuck do you qualify as a genius you moron? people think dr oz has an opinion that's worth listening to also, but no one is classifying him as a genius.
>what do you do yourself? how is that even relevant? is the fact that i'm not a researcher or scientist somehow mean that this guy is a genius?
having a good job and doing well on an iq test does not classify one as a genius. i dont know why youre getting so buttblasted that im saying that there isnt adequate evidence to classify this guy as a genius
>>26112490 You initially say that he hasn't done anything relevant and so he isn't a genius. When I respond with what he said he had done you decide to meme. When I ask you what you have done all you do is get angry and upset. I think you have only proven what I was trying to say in the first place.
>I think you have only proven what I was trying to say in the first place.
this is what you originally said that i am arguing against
>Does anyone find it interesting that the one person who posted that is actually a proven and established "genius" made two posts and left
i responded by saying that the only thing to support the claim that he is a "proven and established genius" is that he did well on an iq test, which does not make him a "proven and established genius."
you responded by saying that he works "in a think tank that provides to Fortune 500 companies." i responded that this does not qualify him as a genius either. if this were the case, then every person who worked "in a think tank that provides to Fortune 500 companies" would be a genius, and i think we can both agree that this is not the case
>When I ask you what you have done all you do is get angry and upset this is not relevant to what we are arguing about. i am not claiming to be a genius.
>I think you have only proven what I was trying to say in the first place. i, in no way, proved that this guy is a "proven and established genius," and neither have you
>>26112807 My point is that we waste our time bickering because we have insecurities about our intelligence and that the one person who seems to actually have something that says he is a genius fucked off after about five minutes.
You literally spending 10 minutes on one goddamn post really really proves that.
>turns the argument into something else that i wasnt addressing or refuting at all >implying im arguing because im insecure and not because im on stimulants >implying that me composing long ass posts somehow proves insecurity >implying that guy has anything that actually says he is a genius >implying you actually know what prove means
>>26111131 >tfw did extremely well in all throughout school (got places in multiple national-level math and science olympiads yearly) >time for university >tfw thought that I would crash and burn at uni-level maths because I was a slob studying 2 hours a week max >tfw still get better grades than everyone >tfw spend my time modding/playing grand strategy and watching animu >tfw playing Aurora autism simulator while normalslime subhumans study topology >tfw still a balding faggot, but at least I can spit on plebs >tfw skimmed through life with minimal effort and maximum gain who /toopatriciantofail/ here
>>26113163 You should probably work on getting a way to handle your stress and anger. Feeling the need to practically write a book in response to someone who suggests an alternative on the discussion and then go haywire with greentext when they call you out on it is very concerning.
I do care about your health. You're a fellow robot, we have to look out for each other.
thanks man, i appreciate your concern. ive been looking into getting anger management because the long intensive internet arguments i get into are really starting to take their toll on my health. it's nice to know that there are still people who still genuinely care in this world
I did have good grades some time ago, but I stopped trying back when I was consistently treated so poorly by my teachers, other students, and even my own friends. I became extremely unhappy/suicidal and dropped out. I still think about killing myself every day. I'm without purpose and have nothing to live for.
