These discussions are meaningless unless we define what we mean when we say intelligence, and that's extremely difficult to do. I know people who can solve equations I could never understand with 5 years of study, and they wouldn't be able to write a simple essay on the thematic merits of a piece of literature to save their life. Vice versa as well, obviously. There's pragmatic intelligence and there's esoteric intelligence (philosophers etc), people who can't perform simple functions like driving but could write a thesis on ideas beyond your comprehension 'falling into the mire while gazing at the stars'.

I did have good grades some time ago, but I stopped trying back when I was consistently treated so poorly by my teachers, other students, and even my own friends.
