Just a reminder to everyone on here, the only people into fantasy settings are women and homosexuals, real men are into science fiction. Fuck faggy ass elves, gay ass dwarves, and remember demons would get their shit pushed in by a space marine.
It's a scientific fact, fantasy is for fucking wussy ass losers who want to escape to a world of magic. Sci Fi is for real men who want to embrace the destiny of any sentient race, exploring the stars and advancing technologically.
its empirically proven that your opinion is shit
and 9 out of ten dentists agree, my opinion is always better than yours
I really dont know why you do this to yourself, put it on blast like that
hey man, you're the one who needs to know he's on the bandwagon and belongs SOMEWHERE
>spacefag confirmed for babydick NO ONE LUBS ME PROBLEMS ;(
No, because at least those can have guns. Fantasy is gay as shit, the second an elf or dwarf enter the picture, it's fucking shit. One is a faggy effeminate dying race that gets their shit stomped by humans, the other is some joke manlet race that lives in a fucking gay steel mill(aka mountains/mines) and tries to act badass. Both are gay as shit.
Nothing beats a futuristic city at night as it rains, and neon lights glow.
Picking a side is pleb. Good art is good art. Bad art is bad art. Art is not good because it happens to be part of some little faggoty genre you have a bias for. You are a pleb. Plain and simple. No side needs to be or should be picked.
Thinly veiled b8, can't you faggots even bother to be original anymore?
>friendly reminder that x is better than y and if you disagree then *insert insult here*
Remember to sage, kids.
Fantasy is for faggots. It just is. Some things are just inherently unmanly, fantasy is one of them. The vast majority of anime is also unmanly. The only people into those things are faggots and bitches. Your magic can't do shit against the power of science.
>implying you understand ANYTHING about somethings intrinsic artistic value
>not being a fucking MAN and knowing what you stand for
jesus christ r9k
define made for MEN, anon.
What is unmanly about a war-ax, when a woman could more easily handle a lazer gun or some shit than a traditional fantasy weapon?
And why does that matter?
>Just a reminder to everyone on here, the only people into fantasy settings are women and homosexuals, real men are into science fiction. Fuck faggy ass elves, gay ass dwarves, and remember demons would get their shit pushed in by a space marine.
I agree my friend. Fantasy is for fucking normies in this day and age
>Fantasy and science fiction are largely indistinguishable.
Look at the little skinny gay elves with their sissy bows and arrows doing their faggy gymnastics shit. Robocop would gun those faggots down so fast.
>it's MANLY to pretend technology is going to magically solve all our problems!
behold the fruits of our labor
Science Fiction requires an element of realism as a basis, hence the science aspect. Meanwhile fantasy can be any faggoty ass nonsense, no matter how retarded.
Guns and bombs are the manliest weapons in all existence. Don't get me wrong, there will always be a place for swords axes and the like, but guns just ooze raw masculinity. As for women being able to use them, remember most women are weak and stupid and would be too terrified to ever use a gun of any kind. Truly strong and intelligent women use guns, meaning they are a litmus test. If you meet a woman and want to date her, and she hates guns, RUN.
My self centered elitist humorless cunt of an ex girlfriend ruined fantasy things for me by gushing about the sexual things she would do to dragon age characters with her friends and saying things like "by the gods"
There is only one God and it is everywhere
God I hate her so much
Those are acceptable. But note, they lack the classic elements that make fantasy faggot shit, such as elves and dwarves. Also settings like Dune and Star wars use science to try and explain the unusual powers some beings may have. Fantasy is literally "magic did it, aint gotta explain shit".
Technology is the future. Technology is what will uplift humanity into and beyond the stars.
40k has no magic in it. It's not fantasy it's fucking sci fi, period. Everything in that setting is explained by science, and the Eldar/Dark Eldar are literally the only, and I mean ONLY acceptable and not faggoty "elflike" race in any setting. I'd argue they should not even be considered elf parallels in any form, beyond having pointed ears.
What the fuck did you just fucking propose about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the MIT, and I've been involved in numerous aerospace conferances around the globe, and I have over 300 pending patents. I am trained in mechanical engineering and Im the top designer in the entire Virginia polytechnics. You are nothing to me but just another garage machinist. I will solder you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before in tungsten carbide filaments, mark my fucking citations. You think you can get away with emailing that shit to me over the electronics community? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my Lockheed references across the USA and your designs are being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, diy er. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your archives. Youre fucking fired, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can explain newtonian physics in over seven hundred ways, and thats just with my autocad. Not only am I extensively educated in post graduate mathematics, but I have access to the entire theoratical usages of the game theory and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your underpaid job off the face of the design bureau, you little intern. If only you could have known what legal problem your little "scientific" paper was about to bring down upon your department, maybe you would have held your fucking research. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're seeing the constructive criticism, you goddamn chemist. I will publish notations all over you and you will be overwhelmed in it. You're fucking out of job, kiddo.
Hallelujah oriniginial commento
Why are you assuming a fantasy world has to be fairies and sunshine and magic nonsense?
Lots of fantasy worlds have magic and supernatural stuff but also a very high level of understanding of these forces, like technology.
Isn't there a little "magic" in stuff like creating/harnessing electricity?
We have dwarves in the real world too though they aren't nearly as muscular as in stories, real life dwarves are more like gnomes desu. and we have androgenous people too.
>Lots of fantasy worlds have magic and supernatural stuff but also a very high level of understanding of these forces, like technology.
Sounds like a typical jrpg, which is the gayest of all fantasy settings. Also real life dwarves are nothing like fantasy dwarves and androgynous people are gay as shit and weak just like elves.
I wish I could agree, but... I had a friend who was very much into fantasy and he's had more gfs than I could ever hope for. Seriously, he'd never shut up about fucking dwarfs, elves, big battles and shit.
You seem to know fantasy. Do you know of any fiction that doesn't rely on the standard tropes of fantasy such as elves, dwarves, demons and other shit like that?
Like, an actual, brand new fantasy universe with its own rules that is minimally derivative of other fantasy works? I used to love fantasy but I'm bored of the similarity of most of the stuff I read nowadays.
All of the characters I saw from it were wooden, normie, "posh" Jude Law type "charming" faggots, no thanks
Cyberpunk is the way of the future, become one with the machine
She really was a stuck up twat, so "elegant", classical lords and ladies and swords and shit she was entirely too unathletic to ever do herself
Game of Thrones is good and she even fucked that up for me by focusing on how she wanted to fuck the Jon snow actor
I think we can agree fangirls are the ones to blame for somethings shittiness
>you'll never be humanities last hope holding back xeno scum back to back with your brothers
>real men are into science fiction
Trannies are often into cyberpunk, tho, and have cyberpunk fantasies about the future in which they are blue haired women with techno-implants.
As for me:
The past is better, patriarchal, medieval. Kings, knights. When I think about the future I think about feminists and shit. I prefer the olden days, I mean look at LOTR: no female rulers, no galactic council and shit.
Maybe the problem stems from you unable to accept that your girlfriend wants to fuck fictional men just as much as you want to fuck fictional women. I'm no tumblrina but that seems insecure.
The Elder Scrolls > all science fiction ever
True, none of them were my type, or.. at least the two that I actually met, but at least he had some... he was a damn social butterfly, maybe I should hang out with him again and take advantage of that
Middle Earth lore is the comfiest fiction of all time.
>the snug land between the Misty Mountains and Mirkwood
>Hobbiton being before Buckland and then Bree standing before the untamed wild beyond
>Tom Bombadils house on the edge of the barrow downs
>Gollum sneaking around everywhere could creep up on anyone at any time
>The past is better
Wake up anon. You're on /r9k/, in the middle ages you'd have been a talentless starving peasant tied to a tree by gay bandits who wanted a stationary rapetoy to relax in between raids. Then they'd forget about you and a bear would horribly kill you before the winter came.
Maybe fags like you should remember that the only reason why the olden times seem glorious is because everything that wasn't kingly was raped, killed, destroyed and built over. Of course all that is still standing or that's been immortalized in painting looks great.
>When I think about the future I think about feminists and shit.
You're thinking about the wrong future. When I think of the future, I think of Transhumanism. The Total Satanic Release. Mass Death Hellraiser. Black Uniforms, Burning Cities, and finally BURNING THE EARTH TO A CRISP
>Dragon Age is the best fantasy ever made
And this is how I know your opinion is absolute garbage.
Sci-fi is what it is and Fantasy is what it is. You can like one, the other or both. If you need to reaffirm your masculinity by arguing something else is less masculine then you yourself are a huge pussy.
Most stuff I've read that doesn't fall into those typical tropes is considered sci-fi. Though a lot of it can be very borderline with other races that use advanced technology that appears like "magic" and such. I just wanted to trigger OP a little more. There can be a very fine line between fantasy and sci fi.
Try something like Red Planet by Robert Heinlein
Ringworld by Larry Niven is a good one too
I enjoy both
because i don't have autism
Is this a troll thread?
Are people really THAT defensive about picking a side in something as pointless as fiction?
How chauvinistic and stupid do you have to be?
Nothing gay about being a man and enjoying the manliest weapons ever created. You ever seen a fucking flamethrower in action son? Now THAT is fucking manly.
I say this now, if I ever had kids, I'd give them a test. I'd show them a photo of a bow and arrow, and a Laser Gun. If they say the bow and arrow is cooler, I fucking send their ass to bed without supper until they learn to like real weapons and not faggot shit.
I don't enjoy both, but I don't shame those who like fantasy. I just find low technology supplanted by magic less interesting than high technology that is essentially magic in itself. Hack the planet, y'all.
>if I ever had kids, I'd give them a test. I'd show them a photo of a bow and arrow, and a Laser Gun. If they say the bow and arrow is cooler, I fucking send their ass to bed without supper
And that is how you create mentally ill transvestites. I can't wait to see your little elf children OP.
Where my Bloodborne, Demon Souls and Dark Souls niggaz at
The "magic" they use is based on science though. It's the power of congealed mental and emotional energy accumulated from countless numbers of beings, stewing into a massive alternate dimension called the Warp that people born genetically advanced enough can exert their will and draw from the power of the warp. Magic is simply bullshit with no rhyme or reason to it. There's rhyme and reason behind the power of the mind and emotional energies, as has been proven in scientific studies. The U.S. and Russian government has been studying psionics for years, so have the Nazis.
Eldar aren't elves, and there's no dwarves in 40k.
>giving a shit about being beautiful
>thinking your beauty will save you from getting blown apart by a Laser Rifle or a bolter gun
I couldn't get into DS2 like I did with Demon's and DS1. What's wrong with me?
No fantasy will ever produce a better monster
But they are elves. Elves are not defined by culture but rather their physiology as there are many elf societies in different fiction. Also Squats are dwarves in the same way.
It's ok to have cool elves faM.
I prefer things I can actually make and do. Can I be a perfect super soldier? No, at most gene therapy can alter me a bit.
I can however make a sword/shield and learn to use them, can't into physics or materials for plasma weapons.
If I can use hard light constructs to make sword projections and it functions like magic then I would into sci fi.
>mfw meet last scholar in BB and she shoots my shit up
Probably because they made DS2 easier and when you play the first of games there are usually no repetitive elements.
Riding into the sunset, protected under the wings of an Archangel and then dying in a crusade doesn't sound that bad, desu.
At least it beats being a one of the billions of NEETs and semi-NEETs in underpaid jobs in the modern world.
>When I think of the future, I think of Transhumanism. The Total Satanic Release. Mass Death Hellraiser. Black Uniforms, Burning Cities, and finally BURNING THE EARTH TO A CRISP
Yeah, that kind of future doesn't sound too bad.
Great thread OP, keep blowing out these fantasy plebs
You can't use magic. You can however get a gun, and learn to use it. Learn to use cover, tatical evasion and aiming, and even quickscope firing for sniper rifles. Do some pushups and shit each day, you'll get strong in no time, and while you won't be a super soldier, you'll be pretty badass. And you can wear camo, body armor, or make your own body armor.
Or fiddle with your bows and arrows or swords and shields and wear tights like a sissy, your choice.
Chainmail brov, I want to see the white of their eyes as I slash them down, see the face of the person who killed me. Have a chance to dodge a strike instead of getting vaporized by bolter fire.
I would be into the customization though, regular humans are fucked in most sci fi settings, unless you happen to be lucky as fuck.
Magic works the exact same in WH fantasy, the only difference is that people don't understand the mechanics behind it.
For a long time lightning was considered magic from the gods, then we learned how it works. So what makes magic magical or not, aside from mortal's understanding of it.
40k is also considered science fantasy, GW has said as much.
You`re sort of right, but don`t forget, that there`s A Song Of Ice And Fire, where the society is truly medieval and manliness oozes out of everything. But yeah, most modern fantasy is feminist circlewank. Also bump.
Well, that's great and all... But who the fuck cares what someone likes? It literally does not matter what you like, what they like, all of it is entirely subjective...
You're right, I'm pretty overtly hostile to people irl
You could say I'm making up for something with that (my dick is 7 inches btw), but at least I'm not watching/reading homoerotic shit about insanely ripped muscular space marines and their "comradery"
Apparently telling you you're a faggot isn't original, how appropriate.
Even if that would be true, so what?
A weak timid nerd who looks up to hypermasculinity and thinks that he should be more masculine is far superior to a weak timid nerd who is "ironically" emasculate and an "ironic" pajama boy, or talks unironically about "toxic masculinity".
In every culture there were people (arguably the majority) who didn't reach the ideal. They were "sinners" instead of being good Christians, they were timid instead of being brave, they were lazy instead of being assiduous workers.
But at least they had a great ideal to reach.
Today we make fun of these ideals and are then surpised when so many men are cucks and so many women are sluts. We make fun of "honor" and are then surprised to find traitors amongst us.
Cynicism, don't give a fuck, and hipster irony of today is much, much worse than the "hypocrisy" of people who have an ideal but actually don't quite reach it.
Both are shit, they have to be designated as distinct from actual literature because the prose inevitably reads like donkey dick. Get fucked.
>actually reading Asimov
You really didn't think about that term very hard did you OP? A pilot in the air force is going to encounter more water in the atmosphere than a "space marine" in space.
a member of a body of troops trained to serve on land or at sea
With the addition of space to the term I think this would be a body of troops trained to serve in space. Sorry m80
Ok, seriously. Land and Sea, fine.
Now you just wanna throw space in there because your vocabulary isn't good enough to think up another cool word for a modern or futuristic soldier. The future looks bleak.
Science Fiction isn't always about that anon, especially when the real future we are going towards looks more like a John Brunner or Peter Watts book
You do know there's tons of sci fi out there with the term "space marine" right? You have to be trolling, but just in case you're actually retarded here are some examples.
Starship Troopers - Robert Heinlein
Wolves of Fenris - Chris Wraight
Codex: Space marines - Pete Haines
I didn't coin the term, I'm saying that it makes sense given the fact we as a species have a term among others for military units and that term is Marine.
Would you prefer Cosmo-trooper?
How about Gravinauts?
Honestly, we could come up with a word for it space marine is just the common name for what we're talking about. Most people would know exactly what the term "space marine" means.
Polluted shithole where people have to wear breathmasks to go outside, the president is a former movie star that goes to Hollywood premiers and always has some snarky comment to those lousy reds that care about shit like ecology, HUGE divide between rich and poor, and places that aren't cities being basically in a constant tempo of urban warfare as gangs of disaffected working class people put out by automation shoot each other for the last remaining shit that's useful in the midwest
I highly recommend you read "The sheep look up". It's essential reading
>Starship Troopers - Robert Heinlein
They were not called space marines, it was Mobile Infantry.
Gravinauts is fairly decent.
>Most people would know exactly what the term "space marine" means.
"I'm using two words together that don't make sense, you know what I mean. You're literally killing me."
I'm homosexual and I vastly prefer science fiction.
Also, anything by J. G. Ballard; more stories of the future that "rub the human face in its own vomit and force it to look in the mirror."
I'm into fantasy games more so than science fiction, although I do like science fiction sometimes. I'm also confident in my masculinity and sexuality so this doesn't really make me make. It do want to clarify though, you seem to think otherwise in the sense that when you play a game you inevitably will be in a fantasy make believe world, so you saying that because science fiction is rooted in reality it makes it more masculine, but it doesn't because you are still actively engaging in a fantasy make believe setting. So, we can say that the subject matters more, the themes that occur and such. Most fantasy games are centered around ideas of traditional masculinity, these games also interest me because living in the modern role, the past interests me, and adding magic, stuff that is esoteric is also interesting to see.
Both genres can include themes of traditional masculinity, such as, courage, bravery, valor, dominance, conquering, triumph in battle etc. I play games because I want to escape reality sometimes, you are doing the same thing, doesn't matter what games you play. It more matters what the subject and themes the game incorporates.
