So OP, if you want something, you'll have to do ALL the legwork.

If you are going for the type of single dude that hangs out at cons, avoid overly slutty cosplaying. Sexy is fine but remember, you want him to notice you, not his 2d fantasy.

Go to focused events, game rooms, specific panels and the like. Essentially you're looking for an environment where communication is perceived as normal as opposed to forced. "Learn to" panels are also a good place to segue into"want to grab a cup of...?" Just make sure you have at least a partial interest in the subject.

Walking away with friends also have any a bad deal.

Lastly, its up to you whether or not you want any hotel room sex, but use your better judgement.

Walking up to your victim at a video room is also a good way to break the ice. Find a show/movie you have either already seen and liked, or know you will enjoy and head to the line. Find him there and casually ask if he knows about it. He might be a fan and be more than happy to talk to you about it, in which case downplay your knowledge.
