Ask a robot anything about life as a junior doctor in the NHS (PROTIP: It's shit). You may have heard about us striking for the first time in 30 years.
at least you can strike, here in Malta, our union has no power.
nurses push us around, the administration bullies us, and we have no protection for doing our best for what is essentially a thankless job that ruins your life.
True. I think our government was astounded at the resistance they have seen to their proposed new contract. Historically, we've been the same but the amount of anger has finally bubbled over and we've found our balls.
Glad I don't work in the private sector in some respects. But at the same time we're not as sheltered from the economy as people believe. We've had widespread, ongoing pay freezes and reducing pensions. But dat security tho.
No, but I've slept with a few nurses, one pharmacist and a radiographer.
I live on site, so a bit of flirting at work leads to "oh you live in the accommodation, what's it like?"
"You can come see it if you like" etc etc
The amount of sexual tension in hospital is palpable and nurses are always up for some crazy flirting.
No, but that's not what we're asking for. We're asking to not have a 30% paycut based on poorly thought out contracts which will increase our anti-social working hours and remove safeguards for excessive working.
You fucking lazy unionist cunts are some of the highest paid wankers in the world for your sector.
>letting people die because unions told you something is unfair
>OMG I HAVE TO WORK ON SATURDAY BOO HOO
You people are fucking cunts and I hope you all get replaced by indians.
>We're asking to not have a 30% paycut
Bullshit. That's a complete lie you cunt.
>which will increase our anti-social working hours
ohh no working on saturday!! try being a chef you dumb cunt, I used to work 80 hours per week for minimum wage and didn't go on strike like a faggot.
just came back from a 24 hour work day:
I challenge you to work for more than 16 hours and remain on your feet and do that for the rest of your life.
Also: Teachers earn more, and they get weekends, summer and Christmas off.
Lmao if you don't think I don't work weekends and nights already. 80 hour weeks is pretty common in my job, as are 72 hour on-calls.
Also frequently work 12 day stretches for ~13hrs/day.
Also, what are you going to do if you fuck up as a chef? Oh no, I burnt a pizza. I'd better cook another.
you cannot seriously compare being a chef and taking life or death decisions that can cost you your career, constantly.
The amount of pressure doctors face is insane. Please don't tell me you think preparing spaghetti sauce is that taxing.
>According to figures from the NHS Employers Organisation, the average total salary for a doctor in training is around 37,000 GBP.
YOU THIEVING CUNTS ARE STEALING MONEY FROM EVERYONE'S TAXES AND THEN HAVE THE FUCKING CHEEK TO GO ON STRIKE!!!! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I've worked a 24 hour shift in a kitchen before, and so do many chefs.. And unlike you cunts we actually do physical work not just sit around and drink coffee. You're right about teachers though, those cunts are overpaid.
>we actually do physical work
you've never seen orthopaedic surgery: there is a reason why it's mostly men, and that is because you need to put in muscle.
I'm an anaesthetist/intensivist myself, which is mostly hands on. Go ahead and run up and down the stairs for half an hour: That's what a CPR feels like.
You have a very warped idea of what being a medic is like: We are not all GPs sitting at a clinic desk (and even they have to do house visits in dodgy neighbourhoods).
let's Skype it up, fellow medbots
By physical I mean you're not dripping with sweat all day from working. Also, use a lift you dumb cunt.
>tfw you will never get home from a 18 hour shift (after 3 or 4 of them in a row) and take off your work shoes to see that your feet have bled through your socks and you can't walk because of the pain
Ok, just ignore what I said because you're too respond.
My point is the junior doctors are paid well and are only going on strike because unions are cunts. Now, I'm comparing being a chef because they do more 'work' and get paid much less, and don't do on strike like cunts.
I'm not a chef any more, dumb cunt.
I remember the junior sous chef I used to work with in a big hotel was earning 3.50 per hour after he worked out his hours/salary.
>Also try doing a lumbar puncture on a confused guy at 4am in the morning
Try cooking for a restaurant full of people after sleeping 2-3 hours per night and doing 6 x 18 hour shifts in a row.
Yes they deserve good pay, and that's exactly what they get. Going on strike and letting people die is pure cunt like behavior. I can honestly say if I was a jnr doctor I would not go on strike, and would be going out of my way to condemn the cunts who are.
>Potato boiler thinks his work is more valuable than a clinician
When was the last time you kept someone alive or avoid being knocked out by violent drunks or demented patients?
Never. You just make food.
>Going on strikes made people die
Absolute government propaganda bait.
Emergency services are covered 24/7. Also doctors were not arguing for more pay they are arguing for not doing more time for less pay.
I hear junior doctor thrown around a lot. Im a US med student. Is that junior doctor crap the same as our residency training.
And to clarify I think across the board a lot of people from chefs to doctors need to be paye a little bit better.
I'm not a chef anymore, not sure how many times I have to say this.
Please point out where I said being a chef was more valuable to society than doctors. really, fucking point it out you dumb cunt.
>And who is going to deal with that?
You, dumbfuck. For the 10th time in this thread, I'm not a chef anymore. I make very good money (much better than junior doctors) from home, I don't have to work day and night like you and then bitch and cry about it.
>Are my fries ready yet?
When was the last time you had to put your hand up someone's arse m8?
>The part where you start talking about your hours as if they are equal to that of a dr.
I know my (old) job was longer hours and harder work, I know a few junior doctors and dated 2.
>still mad he has to put his hands up arses
The supposed equality between chefs and doctors is implicit in the use of an analogy between them, to be honest. The fact is that junior doctors provide an incredibly valuable service at great personal expenditure and the government's ill-thought out proposal to extend their hours and reduce their pay is an insult. Only someone without understanding of their own worth could accept this without complaint.
>The fact is that junior doctors provide an incredibly valuable service at great personal expenditure and the government's ill-thought out proposal to extend their hours and reduce their pay is an insult.
Get a different job then faggot.
Well state side you work 3 to 6 years at $50,000 (comes to about $35,000 after tax) when you are doing your training (residency). After that you become a big boy doctor and start making between 200k for a gp and 400k for specialists. Private practice and more advanced specialty earns even more.
Now with that said, you tend to work 10 to 12 hour days in most of it and tis usually a bitch. Also malpractice insurance takes a good $20k.
Working in england for such a tiny salary just defeats the purpose for anyone to even go to medschool, like, its so much better at that point to just toil with anything else and claim government benefits or plain MOVE to any country anywere.
I slam my dick with a hammer 24/7! It's hard work and longer hours than a dr. They have no right to complain!
Face it. Your role in society is of LITTLE WORTH. Nobody cares about the hours of some grease pit worker compared to the people who will keep your old ass healthy when you come crawling to them ridden with disease.
>I USED TO WORK ALL THE TIME FOR ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AND DIDN'T EVEN ARGUE ABOUT IT. I'D BEND RIGHT OVER AND LET MY BOSS MR SHEKELSTEIN FUCK ME ALL DAY EVERY DAY AND I DIDN'T COMPLAIN ONE BIT BECAUSE COMPLAINING IS FOR FAGS
>posting chinese cartoons made for little girls
Nice one faggot.
Many doctors probably will if this proposal goes through, honestly, and it'll certainly reduce the standard of care you receive. People complain about the NHS often enough already, and the complaints come from the stretched resources. These resources cannot be stretched further without snapping. I understand you are trolling for the sake of trolling, but the truth is the truth, and unless you are outside Britain, this definitely concerns you.
Yea and its not just medicine. my buddy went through chemical engineering at UC irvine and did an internship after, he has a 130k salary that ought to grow to 150k in 5 years. Not to brag, but educated people in science and bussiness have some lucrative carriers and tend to live better lives than their european counterparts. Consider moving to the US med bro, even if you gotta crawl your way.
Also check this out real quick. Even in residency (considering I have no debt) I can get a pretty swank car after saving for a year for the down payment.
I'm a Brit but I'm living in France.
I think the biggest problem the NHS faces is the fact that most doctors time is filled with retarded people who are there for no reason. The "my elbow feels funny" type, and of course drunks and druggies. I would support a fee on stupid NHS visits, and of course cut the wages/size of the management.
Australia would welcome me with open arms pretty easily, usually with relocation expenses.
Canada is apparently a bit trickier and more restrictive in jobs.
If I left the UK it would be to do relief work abroad, probably nothing permanent.
I think the government will cave in the end. Ultimately, they need us more than we need them.
1970's and 80s
>doctors per capita in UK is fairly small
>the ratio of male to female doctors is like 12 to 1
>no issues surrounding patient load, or waiting times, or anything like that
>you make an appointment, you get seen the same week, even the same day
>BMA demands that more applicants to medicine should be female because muh patriarachy
>the ratio of male to female medical students is about 4 men to 6 women
>doctors are roughly 6 men to 4 women
>doctors per capita greater than at any time in history YET
>can never see a GP as so many of them (read, women) work part time
>need to wait weeks to see one
>get left on a trolley to die in a hospital because some surgeon took maternity leave leaving Mumbo Majumbo the incompetent foreign locum doctors hired at 2000 quid an hour to look after a ward
>government is forced to make a new bill that covers the huge shortfall caused by female doctors working part time by making junior doctors work a bit longer
You tell people that the best solution to the NHS right now is to put in place strict gender parity or even bias towards male applicants and they start screaming at you.
>Doctor train of thought
>>"How do I put finger in bum"
>Chef train of thought
>>"How do I cook 8 tickets with 10 dishes on each with each dish containing 5+ different components that have to be prepared before service while being yelled at by drug fueled head chefs"
Thanks, I hope you get aids from a wild nigger.
All I will be thinking is "I remember laughing at fags on 4chan for putting their finger up men's arses.. Now one of those fags are doing it to me lel"
US med student here.
I get depressed every day thinking of how fucked doctors are by the government and insurance companies.
I had the option to go into high-finance and become a wall street thug, but I decided to do medicine and save lives, taking on a huge amount of debt, and I'm going to make practically no money when I finish.
Doctors in UK make 50,000 USD, which is fucking pathetic, I don't see how this can not happen in the US, too.
Im probably just going to kill myself soon, my life sucks anyway.
Yes it's nearly time for bed, thanks for reminding me. So glad I get to wake up when I like and don't have to put my finger in other lads arses on a daily basis. Thanks for reminding me.
Why don't you fucking respond to my points about the M:F ratio instead of attempting to detract from the argument, you stupid tit? Do you, or do you not, have to work longer because female doctors - being selfish cunts - take time out to shit out a sprog now and again?
>going on strike makes people die
so you basically believe:
1) doctors should never leave the country in search for a better life
2) doctors should accept whatever conditions given to them
3) doctors should not be allowed to form unions or have any worker's rights because fuck'em.
Doctors can do what they like, but going on strike despite being some of the highest paid for their sector in the world is pure faggotry.
Also, if going on strike doesn't effect service, then it's clear that they're not even needed in the first place.
>doctors highest paid
doctors earn roughly 50k, and that is usually after 10-15 years of service with busdriver tier pay.
>doctors not needed
next time a friend gets into a bad motor vehicle accident, just remember that doctors aren't needed, and he'll sort himself out.
Well there we fucking go. More work for you because of female doctors, yet, the BMA blames the government.
Going to be a whole lot worse in 20 years when all those female applicants become surgoens and what not (considering that there's a major push to have women in sectors which aren't just general practice).
Oh boy, I'm so looking forward to dying in a hospital bed from a stab wound from Abdul the Peaceful Refugee because Ms.I-want-children put her desires to have kids before the duty of the nation.
>be junior doctors
>patient brought in for brain hemorrhage
>fell down a flight of stairs being retarded or something
>I'm just standing there helping surgeon release some pressure from the head
>won't seem like he'll survive
>relatives start making a huge fucking scene, crying and screaming at all the staff and the doctor about how it's his fault
>father of the guy who died punches doctor right in the face while crying
>they get escorted out
Give my one reason why the doctor won't put hydrogen cyanide in the IV bags of every damn patient here?
>i could ask for something more, but instead i'll just complain that other people have things i don't and act like those things should be taken away
Cool race for the bottom, dipshit.
I've not had many violent patients, just confused elderly people who have run riot. I remember being bleeped to a ward, got there to find a confused old man with a fire extinguisher letting it off everywhere. I was laughing so hard I could barely help.
Just hire more security to your hospital and allow them to fuck up anyone who is violent against the staff.
I've seen a drunk patient being a cunt and the security guards, as well as some policemen who were visitng the ER, fuck up the drunk cunt majorly.
