What is the point of these threads? Who starts them and why?

They're not funny or entertaining. You could claim it's just trolling or memeing, but it's so far from lighthearted and so near to viciousness that those don't seem to be the sources. Trolling or memeing are usually exaggerated to the point of sarcasm - that's what actual banter is. This is just negativity directed at anyone who it hits a chord with.

Do the people who start these threads want others to feel bad about themselves? Do they hate themselves and want to project their self-hatred onto others so as to distract themselves from their own misery, or to get misdirected revenge on people who are suffering in the same way they are?
