You are right OP. To say you believe in something and then to act in opposition to that belief is to live untruly. You believe in gravity, and you never attempt to defy it because you truly believe it is real. Why then would you truly believe the teachings of Jesus are real and attempt to defy them? We have imperfect faith. All of us.
I wouldn't call myself Christian, but I do believe and try to follow the teachings of Jesus. I never understood them and thought it was kinda bullshit until I researched what he really meant when he spoke. The Sermon on the Mount by Emmett Fox is the greatest book on the planet for understanding spirituality and the teachings of Jesus.
