The pattern is there's 2 X's, 2 circles, 3 squares, 2 triangles. Since no other answer is consistent with that then B wins by default.

If more than one answer fit those categories then you'd try to look for something else.
The shapes locations do not matter in this case, and that's what they're trying to test you with.
