Anime is already mainstream and has been since the boom in the early 2000s. It's actually dialed back quite a bit since then, you don't see as much of it as you used to compared to 10 years ago. Flavor of the season stuff like attack on titan or death note will always be big, but weird niche stuff like kaiba or symphogear will never get mainstream attention.
