I'm looking for a science fiction short story... it was an old-school piece that explored how social mores and romantic norms could be totally different in the future.
I believe that the basic plot was that a human woman (who was born a boy) falls in love with an entirely non-human alien and they decide to get married over the weekend and they follow the alien's customs. But if they are still together after a year or something then they'll get remarried and follow human customs...
It was written in the third person and it wasn't one of these modern SJW pieces that are so popular these days, it was a genuine science fiction story about how society changes without making any judgements.
that's not future, that happens today. girl marries a middle-eastern prince, when he promises she only has to live under sharia law for a year. her family never sees her again. she ends up as a sex slave in a dungeon somewhere
