You read the message.

'ADVENT Civilian anti-terrorist task force emergency meeting 11am today. Attendance is mandatory.'

You sigh and put the phone back down before heading to your closet and selecting a suit, a nice grey with black undershirt. You get dressed and clip on your polished ADVENT tie clip, a gift from the director after leading him to a resistance camp three years ago. You still remember the screams as you got the 'honor' of watching the assault on the camp. Innocent unarmed civilians, not soldiers, gunned down. The camp was burnt to the ground and when you got home you puked.

You shudder remembering that day, just one memory of countless that required retribution. That's why you reached out to the resistance and offered to be a mole in ADVENT, this job does not come without risks however if you were to be discovered they would kill you and your whole family if they felt merciful. You down the steaming mug of coffee on your way out the door and press the button on your phone to lock up. You get to the elevator at the end of the hall and step in before you hear a slam and rapid footsteps.

"Oh no you don't!" You hear the female voice yell, the voice of your sister Maxine.

She shouts for you to hold the door, she even uses your full name to show she means business. What does she yell?

"Harold Butler Johnsons, you better hold that door for me!" She yells as she closes in.

You smile and extend your dress shoe letting the slowly closing doors lightly squeeze your foot before reopening and allowing her into the space. Barely 5'3 she leaves plenty of space as she slides through the half open doors. Maxine is about to turn 18 and has been spending the last 5 years working with ADVENT Military to become a member of the Human-ADVENT Strike Forces.

"That's what I thought." She says with a huff as she adjusts her purple beret.

You smirk and let the big brother charm take hold. Before long she drops her pout and gives you a nudge.

"Excited about this meeting? I'm thinking it may be a ranking ceremony." She says gleefully

"I dont know why that excites you, Max. Most people who rank up in the anti-terrorism task force end up behind a desk watching monitors for any suspicious radio wavelengths, I thought you wanted to be in the action?" You say curiously

"Well I do, but I don't think I have what it takes to be a strike force member when all these ADVENT guys have been training since birth almost. I've been thinking maybe a desk job isn't so bad."

Few reasons. One, we can get more intel from her at a desk job, two, we risk sending to her death less if we decide to leak valuable intel. Three, she hasn't been trained from birth so we could try recruiting a better operative instead.

"I mean. Maybe a desk job is better, it's definitely safer anyways." You say as the doors click close and the elevator begins it's descent.

"Sure you say that but you're one of ADVENT's Top Field Agents, you kead to that big camp a few years back and you still find tons of info about the resistance. You couldn't put in a good word for me maybe? So I can get a job like yours?" She asks looking up at you

"Look Max, my job isn't as glamorous as the posters make it look. Why do you want to serve so badly anyways, I wasn't aware you were such a big fan of ADVENT." You say

"I'm not, but ever since mom and dad died. I know who to trust, and it isn't the people who run around the streets chucking grenades into people's homes and firing missles at bakery vans." She says dull, her voice toneless and emotionless

You remember when you both got the news nearly 9 years ago, your father was working on the top floor of his office conducting a meeting. He saw one of the Special Forces drop through the roof and slither down the stairs, then a grenade was launched through the downstairs window. Took out his floor, everyone who attended that meeting died in the resulting drop.

You had watched it on the news, your mother was so distraught she couldn't go to work. The only one with a job and supporting the family while you were in school made things even tougher, another fight in the streets and a few ADVENT Riot Officers used her Bakery Van as cover you watched the missle slam into it blowing it to hell. Your mother couldn't take it, losing her husband and the soon to come poverty. You came home after receiving your acceptance papers for ADVENT's espionage training which was complemented with a weekly allowance of a couple hundred credits. But when you came inside Maxinne was locked in the bathroom and your mother was dangling from the ceiling by a rope.

You clear your throat and give Maxinne a half hug

"I miss them too." You say through a tight throat

The doors slide open and you both step into the lobby, you almost do a double take. Your contact in the resistance is standing by the reception desk chatting it up with the desk woman. He laughs heartily and locks eyes with you he gives you a small nod to the side and bids farewell to the desk woman. You told him never to come to your home many times so why he'd be here now is most confusing.

If he is breaking protocol we have to assume it is for an urgent issue. Like "there is a team outside ready to pick you up".

Not sure how we are going to talk to him without being obvious though. I assume we are carpooling together so she would just wait for us. We could make up some excuse to go back upstairs but would it look weird if this rando followed us up their? idk maybe tell her to go warm the car up while we pop back upstairs. But don't actually. Y'know.

You turn around and walk towards the elevator, when your hear the double doors click shut you change course and walk behind the elevator where your contact is waiting. Travis Walder owns a garage downtown and services a lot of ADVENT Maintenance Crew vehicles, you're aware most if not every electric truck or construction vehicle is being tracked by him every second of every day.

He pulls you around the corner, wrinkling your tie a bit, as you fix it he talks in a half whisper.

"No time for chit chat, I got word there's a big meeting today for the guys hunting us. Any truth to that?"

"Well yeah, an anti-terrorism thing probably a ceremony."

"Regardless I also got word a very special guest would be arriving, the head of SkySecurity. The asshole that helps ADVENT build their radars. I need you to find his ride and put this in the undercarriage of it."

He hands you a small disk of some material, about the size of a CD.

"Well, what is it?" You ask carefully holding the disk between two fingers."

"You dont need to worry about that, just get the disk planted under his car and don't get caught." He says with minor annoyance in his voice

I would prefer the QM writes the story they most want to so they don't abandon us :(. Also I would rather a quest where we managed just the protog or a small party as opposed to all the people and logistics of a whole cell.

Travis looks you up and down.

"I hope so."

Travis hits a button and steps into the opening elevator, you turn and walk back before the doors close.

Hopping in the car you realize Max never even noticed how long you were gone due to her attention in reading her "ADVENT Tactical Combat Guidebook" you smile grimly as you think about working with the people who she sees as having killed her parents, she'll thank you one day. You hope.

Eventually you make it to the Anti-Terrorism Task Building. Two Stunlancers stand at the door and politely open it for your sister and yourself. Entering the conference hall you recognize other "Hunters" people tasked with tracking down XCOM and it's pockets of resistance. You give them professional nods before taking a seat near the back, Maxine sits in the front row still skimming her book. The room slowly fills until nearly all of the 150 seats are filled.

A man in a dark leather jacket and black shirt walks on stage, a silver badge dangles around his neck.
"Ladies and Gentleman I'm Detective Luke Halts. I work with the ADVENT-Human Police Force and today we're gathered to talk about double agents"

There's frightened mumbles all through out the room.

"I know, I know 'how can Jimmy from the Government Library be a double agent?' You'd be shocked at how crafty these buggers are and how easily they can sit right under your nose. Now.."
He begins talking more at length about spotting agents and how to properly report them. You begin to tune him out until you hear the words that trigger your attention.

"And now that I've droned on lets introduce our special guest. Tony Fontaine, owner of SkySecurity!" The detective yells

The room erupts into claps as everyone stands to applaud.

You head out the front doors and see the Stunlancers are now meandering between rows of cars keeping a general watch on things. You put your phone to your ear and walk back and forth with a few mumbles of 'yes' and 'that works'

Looking out at the parking lot you realize you made a major miscalculation. You have no idea what this asshole drives, going in and coming back out would be suspicious so you've gotta figure out how to locate this guy's car.

Erm, that's a tough one. Are we even sure that these guys are guarding the security CEO? There could be other high placed peeps here. If his car doesn't have a logo on it there isn't really a way to know. Sticking it on the wrong car is a waste of the risk to our cover. I think I would rather bail from the mission that do that. If our contacts knew he was coming here then they may have known his car too, pity we didn't ask. Also I don't think we could get away with impersonating someone at our regular workplace.
