You are an Imperial Guardsman.

You have been drawn from some forgotten corner of the galaxy to fight against horrors unimaginable. You are one amongst tens of trillions of men and women who fight to protect the Imperium and all of its vast domain. You are not unique. You are not by any means special. You are but one man who stands before beasts and machines of truly nightmarish power and appearance. The monsters and creatures man once spoke of only in legend and fairytales are very much real, and they are out for your blood.

You have little hope of survival.

----------

You have just awoken stranded in an alien forest beside the wrecked remains of a valkyrie drop-ship. Confused and lost, your search for any kind of means of communication has turned up fruitless. As far as you can tell, you are the only survivor of the crash.

Whilst searching the cockpit of the ship for any functioning comms, you discovered one of the pilots to be missing. Before you could continue your search any further, your were driven off by the arrival of a squad of heretical traitors who must have witnessed the crash of your ship. Fortunately, you escaped to the forest before they became aware of your presence. You have just come upon a trail you suspect to have been made by a fellow Guardsman that stopped at the edge of a stream you'd been following.

You stop and kneel down to get a better look at the track. The trail comes in from the woods which, by your compass's judgement, is to the east (the same direction where you came from). It's clear by the prints that whoever came here must've crossed the stream. Whether or not they made it is unclear. The empty bottle of morphia has little worth noting to it.

You decide you might as well cross here too. Before that, however, it'd probably be a smart idea to cover up this trail as best as you can. You hastily smear the boot prints over and toss a bit of loose foliage over a sizable length of the tracks. You also toss the bottle of morphia into the stream. You doubt it'd hold up to close inspection, but it'll hide the marks at a glance.

With that done, you carefully raise your laspistol above your head and step into the stream, going slowly in case the depth drops at any point. To your surprise the water is relatively shallow, and you make it across with only your mid-chest being submerged. As you reach the other side it becomes clear that the trail. Begins here again. You're also soaking wet.

>Continue following the trail.
>Wait to dry off.
>Something else...

>Continue following the trail

We still have some 10 guys off in the distance looking for survivors. We might want to go an find someplace safe or hidden to dry off. And then with the compass and Map, look for any landmarks and find out where the hell we are.

Supporting.

But having the water weigh us down for much longer could be disastrous. Let's settle down, cover out tracks, get in the foliage and dry out the next chance we get.

No point standing around. You'll dry off as you go. You proceed to follow the trail again, being mindful to ensure your headache doesn't flare up. You idly note that the sun seems to be setting. You have no idea how long the day cycles on this world last, nor how long it'll be until the sun finally sets. You're suddenly, keenly aware that being soaked and lost in the forest once night falls—when it'll almost certainly get colder—is not a good position to be in. You can only hope that the maker of this trail knows where they're going.

Slowly you notice the vegetation begin to thin out as you proceed. The dense rows of trees give way to much shorter foliage, and the landscape beings sloping upwards. You can see a large outcropping of rocks aside a hill up ahead.

The trail proceeds in the direction of the rocks.

>Keep moving. It can't be more than ten minutes to reach the rock formation.
>Stop here. This is far enough.
>Something else...
>>
>>1108243
We should stop here, clear up our tracks and climb one of the trees, should provide cover from the wind

>Grab some of the thinning and hopefully dry vegetation to use for a fire later on

Gonna wait 10 more minutes and then roll for a tie breaker.
>>

>making a fire on top of a barren hill
No thanks
Incline ground is good enough for avoiding disease. Fire attracts to much attention.
Let's just climb a tree after we cover our tracks a bit.
>>
>>1108424
So climb the tree now, or after you've reached the hill?
>>
>>1108433
When we reach the hill.

I prefer a fire to dry our clothes and then put it out.
>>
>>1108456
Meeeeh ok I'll give in. But I still think making a fire is a bad idea.

I feel you but after we dry our clothes, we can move and camp out in a tree a bit a way. Starting a fire shouldn't be hard with a Las Pistol.

Point taken.

You decide to reach the hill before you do anything else. The high ground will help keep away the insects and keep you dry. Along the way you also grab up some dry vegetation to make a quick fire. You'd rather not be soaking wet the whole night.

You trudge through the quickly thinning vegetation as the soil becomes harder and less muddy. Though the trail is still visible, the dwindling light doesn't help much. As you reach the edge of the outcroppings you begin to lose sight of the tracks. The rocky ground leaves no trace of the depressions you'd been following and the ambient light is becoming too dim to make much out. You feel you've come far enough to stop.

You find a well enclosed rock formation with an open patch of ground in the middle to make your small fire. You begin bundling together some kindling and then pile on some bark and small sticks to catch the flame. You remove one of the spare metal buttons sewn to the inside of your shirt and place it against the kindling then press the open connector from one of your laspistol's powerpacks up against the button. It rapidly begins to glow red hot until the dry vegetation catches fire in the heat. As you lean down to blow some oxygen into the small flame you think you hear a small rock tumble from the outcrop directly behind you.

>It's probably nothing.
>Draw your laspistol, but don't act like you've noticed anything.
>Demand whoever is there to reveal themselves.
>Something else...

Gonna end it here for tonight fellas. Keep an eye on the twitter for when we start it up again.

Mkay, night boss.

Personally I suggest we take cover behind the rock formation and get ready for a fight. Full paranoia mode.
>>
>>1108654
>Draw a grenade in one hand an Las Pistol in the other
>Act like we don't notice anything

If shit does hit the fan, take cover with a couple shots from our pistol and ready to flush them out with a nade as we make for our pack and book it
>>
>>1108704
Second this
>>
>>1108704
Yeah basically this.
>>
>>1108704
This, or if we get knocked out, the grenade takes care of all our worries.
>>
>>1108654
>>Demand whoever is there to reveal themselves.

If it were the herectics they would probably be upon us by now, I think it's the other runaway guard that we've been following the treks until know.

invite it to come closer to the fire
>>
>>1108704

This makes sense, seconding it.
