Are there any 4chan historians on /qa/ that can tell me about old /n/ when it was a news board?
Old /pol/ legends recount how moot made /n/ as a news board somewhere around 2006, and then deleted it shortly afterward.
I'm not talking about /new/, which was made in 2010 and I'm not talking about /n/ - nature or the modern /n/ - transportation.
Can anyone here confirm this? Is there anyone here who was there at the time? Any screenshots? What was it like and why was it deleted? I've never even seen so much as a screenshot, and sites like ED don't have any information on it. When you ask on /pol/, some people act like they know but are probably just retelling the same old legend. Nobody seems to know anything specific.
/n/ - trains
/n/ - nature
/n/ news
/new/ - news(co-opted by swarmfront)
/n/ - transportation
/new/ and /r9k/ get deleted, the chon is born
/pol/ and /r9k/ get brought back, the chon slowly turns into cripplechan
>>439915
Did you ever post on any of the first 3 you listed?
>/n/ - trains
Is that where that old F0PH meme came from? It was a little before my time.
I wonder if anyone remembers when /g/ was Guro
Actually, I sort of wonder about the names of boards now, I know that /g/ is technology because technology in Japanese is Gijutsu (similar to how the weapons board is /k/), but then again, other boards are named after their subject's topic's english name
It's sorta like moot liked using Japanese phrases for board acronyms early on, but after a while said "Fuck it" and dropped that acronym naming convention convention, then again, it was the days when 4chan was to be a direct English counter part to Futaba
I was primarily a /new/fag, so I'll drop some screenshots of /new/ that influenced /pol/ early in its creation. I have a bit of /n/ but its mostly from the textboards.
I'm thinking why there are no records of /n/ is due to its low population and moot randomly axing it when no one gave a shit about the board.
brb gotta find them
>>439934
Does /n/ originally being for trains follow this naming standard? What is the japanese word for trains? what about the word for news? I don't know when /g/ stopped being guro and modern /g/ was made, but it seems like by the time he made /n/ - nature he had started using english naming standards.
>>439937
>I'm thinking why there are no records of /n/ is due to its low population and moot randomly axing it when no one gave a shit about the board.
I go back to /new/ as well and I've never seen even one screenshot in all that time for how often it gets namedropped on /pol/.
>>439925
>Did you ever post on any of the first 3 you listed
no, I lurked /new/ a bit because swarmfront interested me though. it was shit.
>Is that where that old F0PH meme came from?
no, it was a way to combat furfag fridays.
>>439934
I think at a certain point he just stopped giving a fuck, wanted to distance himself from futaba and carve his own path as an english imageboard.
it was probably around the time hackers on steroids became a thing
for the anon asking questions that could easily be remedied by a google search

Japanese word for trains is Ressha
>>439948
>calling others newfriend when admittedly new
i almost liked you.
>>439942
>implying anyone ever actually went on /new/
though I have to say, the /new/sman was my favorite board-tan back when /co/ wasnt complete garbage
>>439950
Yeah I deleted that because it was too unintentionally mean. Sorry I haven't had my morning coffee yet. My point was that tannasin wasn't that helpful though.
>>439940
trains was originally /r/, and its spirit lives on in 1chan
>>439951
Compared to today's standards, /new/ was a wellspring of OC and new memes.
>>439951
I haven't seen much of that board tan, but if you're talking about the black haired /new/ tan, he was created a few days after the board was axed. It's a good strategy considering how much of a mess /new/ was.
>>439937
>I have a bit of /n/ but its mostly from the textboards.
Do you really have these?
bumping for answers
>>439979
Only a few, most likely when the board was shitcanned.
>>439937
k, found some /n/ and /new/ things. Small dump commencing.
>>440873
Was it really named /n/ - newpol or did you name those yourself?
>>440884
It's where the /n/ users went (unless some went to the VIP board kek). One was called /newpol/ (pretty much politics) and the other was /newnew/? Had something to do with World News.
>>440885
>/newpol/ and /newnew/
Wow, I didn't even remember their names. I never went to those textboards, although I was an occasional poster on /sjis/. I always heard they were spam anyway. I really appreciate the /n/ screenshots though. I was mostly sure it really existed but there was always the seed of doubt in my mind until I saw these screenshots you're dumping. Keepgoing!
>>440894
>hassle to moderate
top kek, he had no idea what was in store for him...
Think that's all I have of /n/ unless someone wants the folders of /n/ on /newpol/.
Rolling onto /new/.
>>440916
oh, forgot another one about /n/.
>>440927
fuck, I thought I had another image to this (one with user posts) but I guess I lost it.
>>440941

>>439961
I got some of them.
>>440951
>>440894
Why was moot so angry during that era?
>>440953
I think this was the original
this is the only /new/ screenshot I saved at the time ;__;
Found on /new/.

that was the height of the lulzsec brouhaha too iirc
some in the media were blaming 4chan for that shit
*tinfoil intensifies*
And someone made a wordball of most used words on /new/.
Now onto the deletion. I also have a few deletions of /r9k/.
>>441011
RIP old pre/new/ /int/
/r9k/

>UnicornsAreAwesomeFuckScience
Oh shit. I remember that guy.
Pic related. moot added /soc/ after axing /r9k/ and /new/. The 4chumblr incident happened before moot decided to axe the two boards. There was even rumor that moot and the tumblr admin were hanging out.
>/b/ does some shit with tumblr
>tumblr goes to /b/ and there's a bit of 4chumblr thing going on
>moot axes /r9k/ and /new/
>canvas project as moot's first venture?
>/soc/ created
I think moot was leaning towards something back in 2010 if /new/ and /r9k/ users weren't so vicious about their boards being removed.
>>441027
/b/
Man, looking at all of these post-/new/ deletion screencaps, there's quite a bit of history repeating itself on 4chan, especially with the recent gg shitstorm, no wonder why mootykins eventually left us.
More tinfoil.
>>441049
But what kind of person is moot?
Old post from an ex janitor
/new/ on 4 ch 0.n
>>441061
lel yep, still spamfiltered after all these years
>>441068
It's been spamfiltered before .net tho. STI should have created a better name I suppose.
>>441027
Whoops. Sorry, found a screenshot that ran a bit counter to the events. See pic.
>/b/ does some shit with tumblr

That's it. The rest is early /pol/ screencaps.
On 3 August 2010 someone on /new/ got into the websites of foxnewsradio, billoreilly.com and hannity.com. I saved these from that day.

>>440873
Unless there is a place for me to dump these /newpol/ html folders I can screencap the files and post them here.
>>441083
lol nice.
>>441093
>turn /r9k/ into a politics/philosophy board
all my keks, this thread is comedy gold
>>439934
>/g/ was Guro
Speaking of that, has a screencap of /g/ - Guro ever surfaced? I know it was short-lived and had little traffic, but screencaps of /l/ and /z/ have been posted before so you'd think there's at least ONE of /g/ somewhere.
tsk. i'll post more textboard caps tomorrow. gonna do stuff.
>>439940
I find it interesting that at some point moot dropped the japanese naming standard. I guess that was the point at which the site no longer catered exclusively to japanese culture.
>>441435
I do kinda miss the days when a big chunk of the boards fell under the Japanese culture category on the front page (Even boards like /o/, /n and even /t/ and such), and back when you had the simple rule of "It has to be Japanese related" was on a bunch of them
>>441455
pic related
>>441122
Screencaps of boards like /g/ and /sm/ are probably never going to show up anywhere.
>>441020
Why did moot really delete /r9k/?
My guess is that he did it because deep down he agreed with the misogyny, but he just couldn't admit that to himself.
It's like how homophobes are often closeted homsexuals.
>>440907
Ahahahahahahahahah. I always thought people were making that up.
/new/ user on stormfront.
>>440969
>Thinking those news headlines are biased compared to modern news headlines
I miss old bias. It was less overt.
