I always got the feeling that he was going to give college another shot, start living independently and basically try to do everything he couldn't do before because 4chan absorbed too much of his time.

This is what he said he would do (browse and post anonymously), but frankly it always struck me as disingenuous. He talked about how he had more or less grown out of anime in his final Q&A, not to mention that most of his actions as admin in the past couple years have arguably been more about suppressing rather than embracing the spirit of 4chan - i.e. trying to make the site more professional and user-friendly at the cost of being less crazy and fun.

I genuinely believe he's moved on from this place.

I doubt it. This place took up so much of his life. He had the busy life of a successful website entrepreneur who started his business from his basement but without the real success or reward. 4chan was losing money for a long time and only started breaking even a few year back. And when moot took his experience and knowledge he got from working on 4chan to start a new website it failed.
I don't really think he visits this place any more. Hell, I don't see myself browsing this place for much longer and I've been here for barely five years.

He says he has a PhD in some unique social studies type field or something like that in interviews outside 4chan.. Not sure if he's bs'ing us all or not but I can see that 4chan would be a hell of a dissertation in the field. It would also explain his long absences preparing for his defense etc. Whether or not that's true (I thought moot dropped out of uni), from his experience he could easily pick up some high tier/somewhat unique position at Facebook or Google. I don't know if that's what he wants to do though. So yeah, who the fuck knows.

Some guy on /jp/ a year ago discovered in 4chan site data a new color of palm tree (green I think) for a "legacy admin" or some such, so it seems moot cooked up something to identify himself with later if he felt like it. Otherwise he's Luke Skywalker in Force Awakens. moot has vanished, there must be a map to moot etc.

Maybe he went back to studying Anthropology? Or Sociology, don't remember. He told me he had had a front row seat to the strangest behaviours of human beings, so he liked those fields.

Don't you guys remember, on the last year or so before he quit most of his posts with his trip were on /soc/
He became a normie. I think it's only natural for him to leave the website. I'm pretty sure he himself hated the website more than everyone. A bit shameful though is the fact that he said he would be the last man browsing this website, that he would be the one turning off the lights. But I do think it was a good thing that he left. In fact, it would even be better if he died doing something meaningful, because then he would have been like a martyr, all his questionable decisions or attitude would be forgotten and it would have made the community stronger by giving them something to stay together
