Lets have a good old Reddit thread.

What subreddits do you guys like to browse?

/r/worldnews and /r/videos are my main gotos. I also enjoy /r/whowouldwin
>>
/r/GlobalOffensive
/r/news
/r/KotakuInAction

/r/streetfighter

I'm kind of a Reddit noob. What are some good ones I should sub to?

Can't discuss either of the topics on /g/ because either the idea of having hobbies actually related to technology other than games, media consumption or dick waving your latest facebook machine on the internet tends to trigger gaymers and consumerists. Isolating yourself to only being able to see specific content devalues the site and puts it closer toward being Reddit. Adding the filter feature was a mistake.

as opposed to bitching loudly abotu shit you don't like to people who obviously aren't gonna go out of their way to do as you say they should do?

I mean, ideally, you'd have self control, but you make a fine point of what to do when you lack it.
>>
>>426732
>>426762
Yes, lack of self control to ignore shit did end up ultimately warranting the feature. That's an issue on behalf of a portion of the userbase, and I'm partly disappointed people still manage to bitch about things despite being able to filter.
>>
>>421331

So, how mad are you, /qa/?

You mad that you can no longer disregard an opinion with Reddit?

You mad that you actually have to explain why you disagree with opinions?

You mad that the only time the mods do something, you hate it?

You mad that you will never have any power against the mods, no matter how vocal your autism is?

Life sucks, get used to it, faggots.

-/r/worldnews , 4chan niggers complain about /reddit/ors infesting this site, but the truth is 4chan is much more influential on reddit than vice-versa, /r/worldnews and other subreddits are filled with /pol/tards and their Stormfront allies.
-/r/news, to a lesser extent.
-/r/askreddit
-/r/ccna
-/r/4chan tippity top kek XD
- a bunch of the Imaginary Network landscapes.

The default subreddits get a ton of shit, but they're the best part of reddit tbqh senpai, since any niche subreddit for a given topic almost certainly has a parallel forum or site somewhere on the internet that's much better than them for that given topic.

Yes, and?
Are you seriously implying this was not expected?
If that's the case you must be really new here.
Creating a reddit thread in middle of this shitstorm on 4chan was obviously going to invite all kinds of shitposts, stop pretending this thread wasn't pure bait since the beginning.
>>
>>427542
Hard to say if the thread was intentionally made to be bait and a handful of the responses seem genuine. Questionable timing aside; the only ones really at fault are the ones shitposting, regardless of what excuse they use to validate their reason.
>>
>>427562
"Yes, and" is funny. It's what improv comedy is based on. Somebody makes a thread about reddit, so you roleplay and pretend you like reddit a lot in the thread. Then people get pissed off at you for doing so, then you and all the other people pretending to like reddit have a big chuckle about it.

Then one or two people who actually like reddit show up and say some reddit-related things that they like. Now you've got some idiots who think they're in good company like that misquote of Descartes that wasn't really said by Descartes that had a picture of Voltaire on it because it's funnier that way where people who don't know who Voltaire is or what Descartes looks like blah blah you get the idea.

Hell, the only reason I'm even typing all of this up right now is because I think it's sorta funny in a meta-modernist sort of way to over explain a joke. I didn't expect you to read this far. George Bush doesn't care about black people. Cockmongler and Milhouse sitting in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g. First comes love then comes marriage then comes the baby in a baby carriage.

>It literally doesn't matter since the result is the same.
The fact that there are going to be shitters in specific threads doesn't mean those threads should be disallowed just to calm the retards who want to spam in it. Unless you're defending their dindu behavior.

>Is that supposed to be good?
Yes, people talking about and sharing something they enjoy is good regardless if you like thing or not. Something moot has tried to impress on the community multiple times and even created a self-censoring feature to help along is people ignoring shit they don't like. But they should shitpost-spam what they don't like, as you would insist? It drags the quality of the site down not just in the instance of the one thread, but by perpetuating the idea that if enough people in the community doesn't like something that is perfectly within the rules they can force their will by taking moderation into their own hands, which in turn enables groupthinking tribalism and hivemind that promotes an environment where only what the majority of the userbase likes or wants ever gets shared by "mass-downvoting" content they don't like, ergo turning the site into fucking Reddit.

>I seriously hope you don't think disagreeing equals shitposting.
I seriously hope you don't think I'm referring to disagreeing when I say shitposting. Let me cover that base, though: a user willfully going into a thread they know for sure they aren't going to like, but is perfectly allowed within the rules, just to voice that they don't like the content in the thread is fucking retarded. Taking this site so seriously that people need to "defend it from evil off-siters" is equally retarded. And these people aren't even pretending, so more and more retards came along and adopted this self-destructive mentality.

But let's talk about censorship and safe-spaces: what hypocrisy you would mockingly suggest that could happen, yet at the same time advocate silencing discussion of a topic you don't like.

Not him but nice essay I read it.

You're right, I admit.
The only thing I disagree with is
>Taking this site so seriously that people need to "defend it from evil off-siters" is equally retarded.
self-destructive mentality.
If I wanted to talk with redditors I'd browse Reddit. Why bring Reddit into 4chan when you can browse both? It's like talking about people talking about games.

Preserving what makes 4chan unique isn't self-destructive, we don't need another [insert other website here] clone. Being flooded and assimilated by a bigger website is.
Why browse 4chan at all then? Why travel abroad if every culture is the same?

>what hypocrisy you would mockingly suggest that could happen, yet at the same time advocate silencing discussion of a topic you don't like.
If I can't voice my opinion about redundant thread, what else can I do?
>>

I come here to discuss various hobbies and interests with a side of unfiltered dialogue, and on that end 4chan is unique in that your posts here won't be downvoted to oblivion if the majority disagrees. Filtered perhaps, even just plain ignored (sometimes), but here every post maintains equal visibility regardless of the popularity of the opinion shared.
I disagree with the notion it has to be an "us vs them" situation. It would detract from a good bit of discussion if too many users are caught up worrying about what site might be infiltrating 4chan today. Besides, unless 4chan actually starts implementing features that the stereotypical redditor would be comfortable with they have no power here. The best they can do is filter what they don't want to see.

>If I can't voice my opinion about redundant thread, what else can I do?
There's no harm in voicing your opinion. Most others would have left it at "it's shit, I don't like it" and left. I commend you for putting the effort into explaining your position. That's something I feel this site could do with more of, if only for the sake of better discussion.

Not him, but I agree that not all redditors are bad.

But there really are some obnoxious redditors on here, and they unironically post threads like this one all the time on boards like /b/, which usually resorts into a web fight of which website is better. Redditors feel superior towards 4chan's shitposting culture, while anons think redditors are smug and humorless libtards. There really are a lot of cultural differences between the two communities, and redditors don't really lurk moar to adapt to 4chan's culture. They jump right into every board with preconceived notions of what 4chan is 'supposed' to be.

This is why I think it's retarded the mods only ban anti-reddit posts, because this denotes a win for those kind of redditors too. It should be implemented consistently.

Well, it's not like my bitching will prevent any of that. Specially when I'm clearly the minority.
As long as the mods don't start censoring shit and enforcing their feelings, this website probably won't change much either way.
>I disagree with the notion it has to be an "us vs them" situation.
>what site might be infiltrating 4chan
It really depends. Sometimes worrying about someone's background is relevant, like a sjw mod.
For example, mods allow lots of recurrent threads like homo and [insert fetish here] threads on /a/. Meanwhile Valkyrie Crusade(an ecchi anime) and loli threads were deleted. This caused a major shit on /a/ because people felt they weren't allowed to discuss things they liked.
A common argument used against loli threads is that they invite blogging about real lolis. But as you said, deleting whole threads instead of the posts encourages the dindu behavior of the anons talking about real lolis.
As another anon said in other thread, oldfags don't promote to mods and jannys, they seem to be relatively new. Sometimes their views clash with ours and causes major shitstorms because people disagree with the way they enforce rules.
It's not like reddit is inherently bad, it's just a catch-all term used to call out newfags aka people that didn't lurk enough.

This is why I fear newcomers. I fear they will become the majority and silence discussions they don't like like normalfags usually do.

Not even 4chan users lurk anymore. Lurking has been dead for years.
>>
>>430976
I think they do to an extent, except on the big boards like /b/ and /v/. If shitposting is the only thing you can base yourself on as a newbie, you're really going to think that this is what 4chan is all about.

I've been coming to this site for a good decade or so and I never lurked. I came here and started posting when I had something I wanted to say. Like, why even be scared of posting on a site that's made to be posted on? Be yourself.
>>
>>431047
>Be yourself
No doubt you're a learned, cosmopolitan explorer who we would be happy to have on any board at any time, but for some people "yourself" is an insufferable cunt who acts like a retard and whines when people point it out.
>>
>>431047
>be yourself meme
Being yourself isn't a problem when you're not an obnoxious teenager, though.
Lurking not only made blending in easier but also helped me learn english. Growing up in this shithole was a win-win for me.
