Isn't it irritating trying to scroll through a thread after someone inexplicably replied to forty people in one post? I've never once seen a reply like this that was good enough to justify having quoted so many people.

Is it possible to make a maximum number of posts one can quote in a single response? Maybe like five.

It certainly depends on the board. Obviously [s4s] should keep its ridiculousness intact, but /v/, /pol/, /tv/, and other popular shitpost-on-topic boards should definitely do something about it.

Perhaps there should be a rule where >>numbers can't make up more than two thirds of your total character count of your post.

No, this feature should be left in place as a honeypot since it's very easy to identify and scroll past such shitposting (as opposed to traditional paragraph shitposts where you have to read part of it to determine the content) and mods can very quickly verify and respond to reports made against these posts. The part that bothers me is the quote links for a given post being on just about every post. Usually after I read a post I check if somebody replied to them, and I'm not very good at visually chunking and memorizing a 6+ digit number to hold in my short term memory to ignore it for the duration of a thread.
