Why were they removed in the first place?
because they don't do anything
>>401106
yes they do
>>401116
No, they do not. We've had IPv6 for years now which means there's literally 3.4×10^38 IP addresses. It's ridiculously easy to change IP's quickly.
Why try to stop shitposting on a shitposting board?
>>401104
IDs encourage shitposting, just like your palindromic post number
I would be in favor of post IDs being rescrambled for each individual thread so you can't samefag is the same thread but once that thread dies you are a new man.
>>401104
Because /b/ was meant for samefagging and IDs are generally thought of as cancer or a punishment.

Except a lot of ISPs still don't support it. If you were correct on the IPv6 thing, bans would be meaningless too.
Also, if v6 users tend to be assigned some particular sized subnet, then the ID algorithm should be designed to trim the subnet portion from the address.

Clarification: Most IPv6 allocations are on a /64 subnet size. Therefore only the network prefix to that subnet should be used to calculate IDs. It would not be a bad idea to implement this on existing IDd boards like /pol/ as well. Better staying ahead of the curve than falling behind it.
