>>397857
Man I don't know what was better or wose: /mu/ killing Lemmy or /tv/ connecting the Germanwings plane crash to Baneposting?

/v/ had the worst year in god knows how long. Shitposting was just rampant across the board. /d/ had the worst in its entire history: All western art and almost all fetishes save for Futa were banned from /d/ because of the nazi mod in charge, who many believe is Kittenmod, one of the oldest mods on the site.

/aco/ was a disaster and still is. /tv/ is being slowly nuked to death by banning GoT threads, Star Wars spam, interracial porn spam, and off topic shitposting. The nipplemod fiasco on /a/ in which a rouge mod went against Hiro's orders. And of course Hiro buying 4chan from moot.

However this will go down as the year the 4chan mods went crazy, Redditors from r/4chan and r/games invaded the site and took over /v/, and of course the rise of Donald Trump.

The most successful thing I believe that happened was the creation of /trash/, which moved all furry threads and RP threads over there
>>
>>397833

>>397822
And you didn't lurk in the mean time? Being banned doesn't stop you from browsing the site.
>>
>>397872
I meant shit like Avatar Roleplaying. The Hunger Game threads that weren't allowed on /tg/, nor were they allowed on /b/.

I actually want an /rp/ board now, and have /tg/ be just for DnD like games
>>
>>397913
To be fair, /tg/ should be literally card/dice/board games (including Magic/Yugioh/etc). /rp/ for roleplaying, like D&D and Rifts.

HAHAHA these things last whole generations. You know how people hated baby boomers, and then hippies? You are going to be seen by your grandshildren as "that very idiot generation that screw things up". There are 12yo children buying into this stuff (just search "cringe" on Youtube), and it won't go away at least until those people are 30 and slowly become self-aware of what they've been doing.

>>
>>398984
/a/ is not all cushy either. We have our own problem completely reverse of yours - OVERmoderation to the point that fun non-rule breaking threads we could have had 3 years ago get removed because the janitors/mods respond to every report without looking. That and the community is too paranoid and angry to get along and just tells everyone to go back to /v/.

r/a/dio has multiple DJs that take turns. Kilim is an annoying loudmouth that constantly talks/screams over the singing thinking he's being funny. The other DJs have their own quirks. People rag on Kilim because he won't shut the fuck up and also because he says he's taking requests then he never fucking plays the requests.
>>
>>398992
>too paranoid and angry to get along and just tells everyone to go back to /v/
To be fair this is a problem with all boards (just replace /v/ with reddit), with people accusing anyone they disagree with to go back to reddit without actually explaining their complaint

Either the usage of reddit or the person was smart and it measures reddit posting styles, formats, argumentative style, meme usage, insults and other things. But I doubt that, so its probably the former

>>
>>400370
Do you mean you are just getting the 'default' 4chan ads (read the rules, etc)? If so then I have the same. It happened to me a couple of months ago too but went away after a couple of days, I expect it will be the same now but I suppose it is possible that J-list abandoned 4chan
>>
>>400390
I'm just seeing the default 4chan placeholder ads, but I noticed stuff at www.4chan.org (faq, rules, flash) still has ads. I'm sure boards.4chan uses different ad servers than www.4chan, I just hope we don't end up with "update flash player now" malware redirect garbage on the boards.

iktf. I always found /pol/ eye-opening, but they are too loud for its own good.

I think the general rule about gets is to delete explicit gets, that say "GET" or post le psycho dubsman, and anything that passes as a regular post is left up. The mods didn't force the get, but it's kinda pushing the definition to say that the Bernie post is NOT a "get", and people usually see what they want to see in grey areas. I'm generally in favour of not deleting large gets to be "a bit of fun allowed", but it isn't that far-fetched thinking there was bias.
Not that I give a fuck.

It's surreal how important gets are to chan culture. They symbolize fortune, power, and most of all REACH; the largest gets are the convergence of years of discussions, and people scavenge for them when they feel that the stars started to align, and sometimes even pilgrims from distant boards will come over to see the face of the latest newborn mesiah. And more often than not, because the loudest idea usually wins, the result is the embodiment of the zeitgeist, the hottest topic, the dankest meme.

>The nipplemod fiasco on /a/ in which a rouge mod went against Hiro's orders.

Story?
>>
>>401806
Some anime had an ecchi scene with nipples and mods or janitors started deleting the images in the threads, which pissed /a/ off because it was a part of an anime and not necessarily pornography. Then people started arguing about the original policy of nudity and the use of spoiler images to mask them and its obvious intent (to stop porn dumps on blue boards - 4chan is 18+ regardless). A mod then had the genius idea to make a sticky "clarifying" the rule about nudity that stated something like nudity should not be allowed on /a/ even in spoilers (correct me if I'm wrong), directly contrasting what Hiro literally just said in another thread (that nudity from anime should be allowed so long as it is not just a porn or ecchi dump). The sticky thread was bombarded with hate until it was finally deleted.
>>
>>401806
Drama over lewd art from vakyre drive getting deleted (/a/ favoritism allowed them to post lewds if it was from official anime)

Hiro comes in, discusses the rules with /a/, decides to make the lewd rule official and says he will put /a/ in a test period soon. Soon after a mod panics for NO REASON and makes a sticky restating the rule and replying to posts at random, not realizing Hiro was going to change jack shit.

MODS = FAGS, etc, etc, some days later hiro made a sticky officially announcing the (still unwritten) rule and a test period to see how it goes.

Nothing really changes and the mod makes a fool of himself.

Or maybe it did change. I'm seeing much more boobs in /co/ as of late

Hiro really doesn't give himself enough of a presence. The mods and admins still run this place. I'm sure he's doing stuff, and I'm not being a paranoid asshat like a lot of the people on here are, but he's just largely invisible.
>>
>>401830
You mean sysops. Hiro is the only admin.

The truth is much more simple: Hiro is a 40 years old man who runs multiple business and travels internationally all the time. His greatest problem is time. He doesn't have enough time to dedicate himself fully to the site like moot did.

That said, Hiro's problems regarding administrating 4chan itself seems to be that he thinks /qa/ is a hub when it's a secret board. He solved all the stuff /qa/ has been harping about (only the /aco/ deal is left) but knows little of how the other boards roll.

He needs to spend this year getting accustomed to board's cultures.

>He needs to spend this year getting accustomed to board's cultures.
You seriously can't be this fucking new, /qa/ isn't a fucking secret club, believe or not this board existed before Hiro and it was quite popular back them, after Moot leaving the board continue to exist and it was just a small place for metal discussion with a small community, but slowly people started linking the board all over the website and people started spamming the shit out of it because lulz, and since there was no mods to look after this board the few anons that came here before everything going to shit tried to keep the shitposting under control on their own, by burring the shitposting with new threads and things like that

My point is, even before Hiro people knew about /qa/, they just stopped giving a shit after a while since it wasn't news anymore, and /qa/ slowly came back to its original state, and them everything went to shit again when Hiro started using this board as its own personal feedback option and suddendly this place was filled with newfags spamming shitty "censor shit because i don't like it" threads

>But /qa/ is made for this, look at all the problems that got solved because Hiro listened to us
Hiro never gave a fuck about what /qa/ faggots have to say, he may listen to some suggestions here, but they are still just suggestions, before creating all the new boards he actually went to the boards that would be affected by them to ask for their opinions, /aco/ existed because /co/ asked him, not us, he almost made a fanfiction board but /lit/ told him it was a bad idea, he lurked multiple boards and continues to do that to make sure he knows what's going on outside his personal favorites, listening to /qa/ and only /qa/ would be fucking stupid considering how the meta board is so blind
>>
>>401834
>He doesn't have enough time to dedicate himself fully to the site like moot did.

Well near the end, moot didn't really spend that time to dedicate himself fully to the site, either.
>>
>>401845
>/qa/ isn't a fucking secret club, believe or not this board existed before Hiro and it was quite popular back them,

The board is unlisted and only people realize it exists when the mods mention it. It's by all intents and purposes a secret board, that sometimes get used by the staff to do Q&As

>and it was quite popular back them
Was not. After moot made his Q&A and the board was frozen everybody left and very few remained.

>Hiro never gave a fuck about what /qa/ faggots have to say,
/his/ and /wsr/ where requested on /qa/. The robot was reenabled after a /qa/ thread.

> /aco/ existed because /co/ asked him, not us
M8 he never once mentioned /aco/, ever. The mods where behind that board.

>he almost made a fanfiction board but /lit/ told him it was a bad idea
Fan fiction does not pertain to /lit/ m8. /co/, /a/, /v/, /tg/ and so many other boards practically shit drawfags.

Hiro can't base himself on the opinions of just one board. That's my point.

>>401846
>Well near the end, moot didn't really spend that time to dedicate himself fully to the site, either.
moot stated he effectively handled management of the site to the staff circa 2012. He was purposedly fucking off the site after he - for some reason - stopped being as active has he became in early 2012.
>>
>>401857
>/his/ and /wsr/ where requested on /qa/. The robot was reenabled after a /qa/ thread.

Not to mention he only posts here and on /a/, and has shown up in these threads a few times. Any moron saying Hiro has not considered this board doesn't know what they're talking about.
>>
>>401857
Dude, just because its unlisted it doesn't mean its a "secret board", a lot of people mention this board here and there, specially during important happenings and meta threads, the only people who still don't know about /qa/ are gigantic newfags
> that sometimes get used by the staff to do Q&As
They only used this board for Q&As twice and that's it, its a unofficial meta board at this point, or else they would have deleted these threads already since they would be considered offtopic
>Was not. After moot made his Q&A and the board was frozen everybody left and very few remained.
where was you for the rest of the last year? Or are you just parroting shit you don't understand? moot deleted the board, the board became inaccessible for a while, it came back, and them some people slowly found out about it and decided to turn it into a metaboard since we needed one. them it was spammed everywhere, there was a shitstorm, shitposting was purged and some time later, Hiro came with his own half assed Q&A that brought even more newfags
>>
Hiro doesn't exist. Moot is still admin but just wanted to make some big changes
>>
>>401862
Nah he has posted on a bunch of places

He went to /sp/ and fucked around with the board a little, posted on /lit/ and talked abut a fan fiction board, posted on /u/ and did something I can't quite remember and iirc posted once on /co/ (or was that moot?)
>>
>>401868
m8 I was there since day one. The board was frozen and a shitton of posts where deleted, then unfrozen. Nothing else.

By the time the board was created moot officially stepped down from administration

>>

$600 without taxes or shipping fees.

In europe is 960£.
Way more expensive than in america.
>>
>>403884
Because VR is the new 3D and the oculus is the virtual boy, even if it ends up sucking ass compared to future models that will come out years later and BTFO it, people will still buy them anyway because they just can't fucking wait 5 more years for technology to advance enough, there is a reason why truly 3D experiences weren't a thing until a bit later in the 90s, because you COULD do 3D, but the gear to make that work was either too expensive or the requirements were too high

my point is, the same tech that makes the oculus be worth at least 300 bucks today is going to be a lot cheaper in a few years, plus all the new stuff that will come out that will boost its capacity and make it even better, VR still is on its diapers and people are losing their shit for no reason, on the bright side though at least the oculus sucess will start a new console race that will focus on VR (just like 3D and motion controls) and hopefully one of the big companies can come up with something both more accessible and with superior gear

A new anime season has started and /a/ regained its usual speed.

>>

Question for /a/nons, how you usually deal with fotm japanese cartoons and manga? How does /a/ separate and manage what they consider okay from what they consider cancer? are there any characteristics about some of these in particular that make them reject them? Or its just hate because of popularity?
>>
>>404287
Generally, as with most things, the more popular something is the more it will get shitposted.
Most of these shows get unbearably shit threads, but there is always at least a decent one once in a while. Shitposters tend to flock on shit OPs, but that might not be very reliable, so the best action is to open all the threads and look for the least bad one. At least that's what I always do. Also because of the nature of the board, every anime related to Kyoani, Shaft, Urobochi or Trigger will instantly get the popular treatment at first, but it will start to fade away if the show isn't actually that good.
The frequency these good threads appear for popular shows is directly related to its fanbase. One Punch Man, for example, got shitty powerlevel threads for as far as the eye can see, while Kill La Kill still had some good threads among the huge wave of shitposting and the regular Kyoani show had regularly more nice threads as the season progressed. Monogatari series had so many titles when Owarimonogatari came out it barely got shitposted anymore.

Lastly, one not-so-popular show might get its threads completely ruined if it comes too close to the general format. See: Overlord, Yahari and even Yuru Yuri to some extension. Generals are always shit, so they should be avoided.
The slower shows usually have good threads with few exceptions.

I probably wrote too much, but whatever.

pepe has been big for a long while, but it's becoming a force of nature

I remember the 2012 meme wars, that were mostly about rage comics. There were people who always thought rage comics were utter shit, people who loved the crappiness, and when the meme got "compromised" most people here started hating them, and they've been completely erased of chan culture for at least three years.

But now there's a rare mix of: homegrown old-pepers, homegrown newmemers that joined the craze, cross-posters that served as transfer mechanism to the rest of the world (facebook, twitter, reddit), normalfags that made it a basic facebook meme staple, anti-froggers normalfags that think it's a Trump meme, and homegrown anti-froggers (these used to be because of hate of the /r9k/ mentality of frogposters, but now I think most people hate pepe for being a normalnet meme).

This is different from 2012 in that no one wants to give up the meme.
How did this get so out of hand. The Pepe market is more complex than powerplay in the Middle East

/v/ is having a sticky for AGDQ but not a normal one, a rolling one.

Now that's interesting. Indeed never heard of this before.
>>

why would /v/ get a sticky for a small event like this? spam?
>>
>>405694
Actually, this has been here for a few months. The last /mlp/'s episode sticky had this feature too. I think it's to save some bandwidth.
>>
>>405697
Yes, people were making a thread every time a thread reached the bump limit, and they reached it too fast that there were multiple threads active.
Then the thread wars started and shitposted them to death.

This is working really well actually, it was a great idea to make one sticky like this.

You're both stupid, 4chan and memes are inseparable, memes are a important part of this website but they alone aren't the whole experience, there is a reason why places like reddit, even if they steal our shit they never manage to produce anything, its because they don't have the amount of fights we have here, 4chan needs memes because they are fun, but it also needs real, civil discussion to produce new memes and keep the community senile, if one of these got removed the website would never work
>But /s4s/
/s4s/ is literally a "shitposters shitposting shitposts" board, they produce a lot of memes but not even half of them become big enough to reach the rest of the website, they usually stick to inside the board, and even /s4s/ produces serious, civil discussion once in a while, including good OC that isn't just memes like its albums for example
>>
>>405755
Me neither, that is either the castle of the two sisters or the most stealth pony image i've ever seem
>>
>>405719
Is this the first time he's been publicly banned? Because if so this may just be the first major happening of 2016.
>>
>>405773
I don't think so, but considering this is coming from /v/ and the image he got banned for using, its the best public execution ever made, its like if the planets aligned just for this, the board that loses it shit the most to ponies and that would be the last one to actually do something about the subject getting this, truly an amazing event
>>
>>405761
>memes are a important part of this website
What a easy way to tell a newfag. No, that's wrong. Memes have never been a important part of 4chan culture. JOKES and HUMOUR were, but memes never were. [s4s] is not just older 4chan in just the way they have fun, but also by the fact their JOKES are short live, for the moment and later become a be there thing. Memes were never a important part of 4chan and it was rare for anything to reach that 'meme' status and be big.

Memes were never a core part of 4chan, because a meme is giant fucking forced demon that gets bigger than the site and keeps growing. JOKES were a core part of 4chan and the site was for the moment, not becoming the next big thing. Meme culture is cancerous as hell, because nothing about it is being original or funny, its about trying to be the next big thing so you spurt the same thing over and over again and force it
>>
>>405698

>memes were never a core part of 4chan

Catchphrases and in-jokes are by definition memes. 4chan has always been known to produce a shit ton of them.

They only become cancerous when they spread to websites like reddit or facebook.
>>
>>405796
You seem to have missed a core part of the post. I was intentionally avoiding calling those memes. In the more modern times, a internet meme is less those and more about, again, giant forced demon that outgrows the site. That difference in treatment is important
>>
>>405782
>[s4s] is not just older 4chan in just the way they have fun, but also by the fact their JOKES are short live, for the moment and later become a be there thing
I dunno, given that their material is still mostly based off of shitposting from 2011/2012.
>>
>>405807
to be fair there are certainly people on that board who never really got the joke and legitimately try to use it as a meme launching board
>>
>>405800
yep, i wish there weren't people pushing unfunny memes. I some want to ride the next bandwagon, even if they have to push it themselves.

But if it weren't a "compromised" meme, I'd enjoy frogposting as a side-dish. It's a versatile reaction pic, and I like seeing so many varied expresions, themes, cultural references.
I hated frogposting a year ago, but now I started enjoying the variety seeing normalfag friends post it on facebook make me puke in my mouth.
