Hiro claims that:
>Admin job is to keep servers, to deal with legal matters, to cover expenses and so on:
https://twitter.com/hiroyuki_ni/status/882356960515026944

Well, let's remind him that good admins also listen to the users and to receive feedback.

Here are some suggestions of my own:
>ensure that 4chan defaults to https.
every other modern website does this. Why not this one?
>4chan.org/bant goes to a 404 page.
ensure it redirects to https://boards.4chan.org/bant
>the flag of East Timor tooltip shows as unknown when hovered over.
Fix the tooltip to provide the proper country name as it does with the other flags
>the flag of Myanmar is incorrect.
update the famfamfam flags to have the fixed flags, possibly taking inspiration from here: https://github.com/flagzzzz/4chan-Flag-Fixer
>>
Please correct the flag of Reunion Island. There's also a lot of other flags you could correct, too, seen here: https://github.com/flagzzzz/4chan-Flag-Fixer
>>
4chan's biggest issue is that in all probability the next 1-2 years will see legacy captchas removed and thread creation restricted to pass users, and the strongest alternative we have is a reddit hybrid.
>>
>>1436640
That is baseless and retarded.
>>
You should probably clarify that you mean technical issues.
>>
>>1436640
Sounds good desu.
>>
>>1436644
Legacy captcha presents no barrier to spambots, and the only reason we don't have spam right now is the lack of spambots. When spam picks up, turning off legacy captcha will be the easiest option, so it is the one you should expect.

Recaptcha v2 is more effective (because they intentionally crippled legacy to force people to upgrade), but not really good enough for thread creation. Expecting him not to make an easy change that stops the spam and rakes in money is naive. He's halfway there already with all the range bans, it would just be finishing the job.
>>
>>1436640
The reason 4chan was created in the first place was because of the retarded prices of SA membership privileges. If it really goes down that way, you'll probably see a mass exodus to other chans, like 7 or 8 or 420
>>
Enable flag clicking on /bant/ so you can do flag collection.

Change to proxy rule on the rules page to explicitly state pass users are allowed to use proxies or VPNs.
It's implicitly known because pass users are able to bypass range bans, but it needs to be made official.

Convert all regular bans on proxies / tor exits to pass bypassable bans.
Seriously, I could write a program to do this in an hour.
>>
>>1436640
I hope legacy captchas will stay, but I can see google phasing them out already as you say. As for prevent thread creation, I don't think that would happen.

>reddit hybrid
Do you mean Voat? I haven't visited it for at least two years.

I would prefer to keep using 4chan as it is the most popular, but only if the codebase actually gets bugfixes and updates every so often.

>>1436646
Yeah, I realized that there may be some confusion there.

Additional ideas I thought of:
>implement webm VP9 codec
it is more efficient I believe
>implement an onion link for browsing 4chan from tor
I understand posting from tor should be prohibited to prevent spam, but an onion link would be nice. cripplechan has one
>remove ads from the mobile version
Virtually all desktop users have adblockers, but mobile users also can easily block ads from their phone. Having them on mobile is futile
>implement ipv6 posting
it will have to be done at some point. Better to have the site ready for it beforehand
>>
>>1436661
Onion link would only work if posting was restricted to pass users.
Otherwise there's no way to block people who post illegal shit.
>>
>>1436661
>Do you mean Voat?
8ch.
>>
>>1436663
Yes, that is what I stated in my post. Allow onion browsing, but not onion posting
>>
>>1436653
And why would losing legacy captcha be a bad thing?
>>
Make a manga board because waifutards keep spamming /a/ with garbage.
>>
>>1436669
Because v2 is one of the most annoying things claiming to be a captcha ever created.
>>
>>1436675
It's fine to me, and a lot better than legacy captcha. Deal with it.
>>
>>1436675
Now on the "click verify when there are none left" the image fades both out and in extremely slowly. It's as if Google is trying to punish us for possibly being a robot. Thank god for legacy recaptcha.
>>
>>1436677
>It's fine to me
For most users it is not fine.
>>
>>1436681
Why? What's the issue?
>>
>>1436683
see for example
>>1436680
>>
>>1436680
That's really exaggerative, it's not that bad.
>>
>>1436680
>It's as if Google is trying to punish us for possibly being a robot.
Google has given up on captchas. If they determine you are probably a robot based on their failure to track your browsing history and/or you solving the captcha enough times, I think they simply rate limit you.
>>
>>1436687
The captcha changes difficulty depending on whether Google thinks you are a robot (based mainly on user tracking). The captcha you see is not what others see.
>>
>>1436690
Why would Google think some users are more likely to be bots than others?
>>
>>1436691
Having a sufficiently old tracking cookie makes users less likely to be a bot. Solving a large number of captchas makes the user more likely to be a bot. There are probably other factors we don't know about.
>>
>>1436690
Also, a lot of times the more you use the captcha, the more likely they are to throw a puzzle at you. If you're like a normal 4chan user and you post hundreds of times per day, chances are you'll see a lot more "Select all images with X" or whatever. The way I see it, legacy captcha has no drawbacks. It literally takes two seconds to fill out, and if you can't read it because the text is garbled, just click on it and a new one pops up. Compare that to nu-captcha, wherein you have to wait for it to load, then wait for it to tell you what to select, then possibly sit through barely-intelligible things fading in and out slower than molasses. Could take up to a minute if you fuck up.
>>
>>1436614
I really hate how hiro pretends to be retarded and evades just about any sort of question or other comment. It makes talking with him next to impossible, which is pretty frustrating as he's the one who owns the site.
>>
>>1436698
The drawback of legacy captcha is that it doesn't stop bots since Google intentionally fixed the difficulty to the easiest mode as a means of forcing users to upgrade. The only plausible reason we have it at all is to sell passes.
>>
>>1436677
If it works fine for you it means you're not blocking various scripts and cookies from google used to track you.
>>
>>1436704
And why the hell would I do that?
>>
>>1436703
>it doesn't stop bots
We barely have any bots as it is. There's no reason to remove captcha if things stay the way they are.
>>
>>1436713
>There's no reason to remove captcha
It's annoying, but of course if your aim is to sell passes, that's a feature, not a bug.
>>
>>1436699
I know this might come as a shock, but why should he talk to you? This isn't a small operation of a few friends anymore.
>>
Boards need to start having ID's again

Too many samefags, and what not.
>>
>>1436715
It's just nice getting clear (or even only somewhat clear) answers every once in a while. That's all. In terms of actually interacting with the userbase, while he did not have to at all and it was understandably not perfect, moot was much better. It's depressing to think that interacting with users of your website is so uncommon that not dealing with them is seen as normal and even desirable behavior.

Anyway Hiro I did your dirty work myself. From left to right, top to bottom.
1. Anarcho-capitalism, mutualism, anarcho-communism, anarcho-primitivism, pacifism
2. Anarcho-feminism, queer anarchism, anarcho-individualism, anarcho-transhumanism, agorism
3. Anarcho-egoism, black nationalist, Confederate, communist, European
4. Fascism, Gadsden, gay, Jihadi, Kekistani (kill me)
5. Muslim, National Bolshevik, Nazi, pirate, templar
6. United Nations
Replace them and add all the new ones (optional: remove Kekistani)

You can turn it back on from "Use Recaptcha v1 on Index" but then you have to use the form at the top of the page to start threads.
>>
>>1437078

The reason is that the legacy captcha doesn't work for starting threads anymore, and 4chan X hasn't been updated to support switching back and forth between legacy and v2 in the QR yet.

So you're retarded, got it. Even outside of paid advertising there's thousands of autists that use 4chan that'd break the site over their knee if it meant fucking with one person in one general if they could. As has been done over and over and over in the past.
>>
>>1440763
Just telling you the facts.
>>
>>1440763
As for why your autists don't write spambots, well, some of them do, see /vp/ and /int/. Most of the other autists who'd like to write spambots but haven't are probably brainlets who can't code, but that's specuation, you'd have to ask them.
>>
>>1440777
Most of them are paying people to write them.
There's a few chan's that are more open to pedos and blackhats.
These imageboards have people who will take cash to give them a spambot.

From the deleted /vp/ posts I read it feels to me as if that guy bought or acquired the bot somehow.
>>
>>1440778
>Most of them are paying people to write them.
That's speculation on your part, and if they are, they're wasting money.
>>
>>1440780
Oh, I thought you meant writing the captchas.
>>
It's actually kind of sad that 4chan's autists nowadays are too dumb to write their own bots. The commercial spammers did it that way back in the day, but clearly the 4chan.js people were writing their own material, and there were plenty of other bots, like that Japanese bird bot, "and idiot :)", GNU/Linux, and of course Kimmo. Maybe we can blame the decline of /g/ and the removal of /prog/. Sad that nobody tries to reverse this and they just let 4chan's demographic get dumber. I mean, obviously we don't want more bots, but we would like more people with the minimum intelligence to write a bot, were that something they were inclined to do.
>>
>>1440786
or maybe nobody wants to use captcha fillers to write their bots
>>
>>1440788
Getting through the captcha is fairly trivial. It adds a few more steps, but if you're smart enough to write a bot, you should be smart enough to solve the captcha.
>>
>>1440791
The only ways to deal with the captcha are:
1. Do it manually for each post (or pre-fill a bunch of them every 5 minutes)
2. Pay pajeets to do it manually for each post
3. Buy a pass and hope it doesn't get disabled for abuse

It should say "we don't have much spam", but other than that, it is correct.

>That's Bui, his current method is to pay Indians to spam 8ch and 4chan manually. He's still working on a way to get past captchas automatically and has been for years but hasn't been successful.
Evidence for any of these statements? The thread spammer on /vp/ might well be using manual solving given that legacy won't work for that. 8ch's captcha is not particularly strong, though (albeit stronger than deliberately weak legacy), so I doubt manual solving is needed there.

>>1441091
I made this post with automatically solved captcha. I'm doing it with OCR, but there are simpler (but less efficient in terms of solve rate) methods.

Well if it breaks the rules and mods delete it, that's fine. On the other hand, I can't fathom why I would feel bad for CNN being hit with doxxing and whatnot. While I'd never lift a finger on behalf of the donald or trump's personal army, CNN and other cable news networks are pure garbage so I can't feel any sympathy for them

I only hope these "kekistan" types go after Fox and MSNBC as well, all cable news channels are shitty, pic related.

Why the fuck would his post make you angry?

A raid is a raid, especially when it's ideologically driven, plus your personal feels are irrelevant if you think it's alright for it to happen just because you don't like the target.

Also, if the mods need motivation to get off their asses. /pol/ made Hiro cry when they tried to spread all the Russia made forged e-mails and documents to damage Macron in the French presidential election.
>>
More mods and janitors that are mature. Tired of going to whatever board and seeing people post ERP/roleplay/softcore porn/masturbation habits. People, this is basic stuff that should be easy to spot and ban for.
>>
>>1443602
And to add onto this, seriously fire the /jp/ janitor or mod, or whatever they are. They're one of the worst offenders when it comes to defending porno garbage on blue boards.

>/pol/ made Hiro cry when they tried to spread all the Russia made forged e-mails and documents to damage Macron in the French presidential election.

He doesn't look like he's crying, just complaining.

But spreading propaganda against Macron is another story, the fate of an entire country rests on the next few decades, only a muslim, black or enabler of those would stand to lose. Helping save France from Brazilification is more important than the rules on a comedy website
>>
>>1443771
Semantics. He was unhappy with the fact you were using /pol/ as an adjunct for Russian propaganda because unlike the American government, the French more than likely would contact him over it and cause him problems he doesn't want to deal with. Also ends don't justify the means (even though your ends are completely deluded and without merit.)

Also you just admitted to breaking the rules of this website by making that declaration. Now that's pathetic.

I still have not seen any proof of this. It is funny, as the media just keeps crying wolf while believing that people will keep taking them seriously.

moot just wanted to stop being in charge of 4chan, and would rather hand the site over to a corrupt owner than a meme Nazi would probably be equally corrupt. I'm sorry nobody cares about us, but we're a community of people with no money who don't want to be publicly identified, so this was the only solution ;_;

Hiro could have been a lot worse than he is. He doesn't love us or care about us, but neither does anyone else.

You're next step for damage control is going to claim this was a false flag to make it look like it was from the the Russians.

Then you're going to pivot and tell us the Russia didn't interfere with American elections and we should trust Putin's and Trump's word over the FBI, CIA, NSA and 14 agencies that agreed with their assessment that the US was attacked.
>>
>>1443797
I don't partake in any of that so not breaking the rules. Just noting that at first I assumed you were just a good-hearted bystander, all about the rules. But your second post, reading like a CNN blurb itself complete with left--wing slant and cliche Russiphobia makes it obvious you actually defend CNN or hold the same values. You outde yourself using CNN-jargon

Now you lost our sympathy and we enjoy you being sad the mods aren't "doing their job"

The fact you can't refute or give any reason as to why your raids are acceptable on 4chan, proves you have nothing of merit to defend.

>You're next step for damage control is going to claim this was a false flag to make it look like it was from the the Russians.

Even if it were, it's not any worse than the other 99% of propaganda, originating from the US, other NATO countries, as well as every political party. The remaining indigenous French support assistance from other European brothers, including Russia
>>
>>1443836
And when Americans or NATO try and use 4chan the same, I'll remain consistent and demand mods enforce the rules.

It doesn't change the fact that your only excuse for breaking the rules on 4chan is 'The ends justify the means'.

Yep, it's Terry Davis, /g/'s second-favourite meme man after Richard "I'd just like to interject for a moment" Stallman. He has intense schizophrenia, is what he has. If you admire him, that says very bad things about the validity of your own beliefs, because he is undeniably medically deranged.

Yes? Anyone can edit an XML file and copy paste in Russian words in it. I don't see how that is concrete evidence of any sort that the emails are forgeries created by the Russians. What would be strange is if the Russian secret service were conveniently too lazy to edit an XML document themselves and think that it would be OK to send off their booty to Wikileaks in that state.

Be happy someone /g/ isn't here to slap you for that.
