Basically, villages are great because of community and rural charm and cities are okay because there are jobs, services and access to leisure.

But Towns? Towns are where the British suburb and the urban wasteland exists - they're nothing but commuter's homes at best, usually surrounded by the council housed or brick walled closets from 150 years whose only hopes are minimum wage services work.

They're run down blotches of grey because there are no jobs pushing funds into councils and consumer spending, so there's no reinvigoration or investment, and so they largely exist with one purpose - to continue existing.

Because there is no mechanism for participation in improving them for 99.9% of the people who live there

Cities themselves, as they are today, aren't a good thing, let it be known. It is just that their major problems, usually caused by the consumption of surrounding towns and villages and creation of housing estates, are ameliorated by sheer size creating a pull factor for investment, and with size comes more likely access to services and leisure.

I make a point of this because many cities are very townish in nature and lack identity, culture and community, but it is the benefits and outcomes of size and money that make living in cities bearable.

One problem we have is with high streets.

In ye olde times, (I am guessing here:) there probably wouldb't even have been a distinction between sidewalk and road. People would have the entire road to walk down, just having to mind out for the odd horse and cart.

Now tarmac has been brought in to buiild proper dedicated roads, which dominate the high street, and the pedestian walking area is shuttled off to the sides.

I'll tell you exactly why. I live and have for my whole life lived outside of a community. I live on a road in rural Wales not even a village, the neighbours are a serious walk away and the views are fantastic.

Near me is a little village, very close community, very tight. The kids are good and are brought up with good family values, they aren't Mary Poppin's children but they're all good kids at heart.

Further from me is a town and not too far from that another one. These are large enough to have 2 supermarkets each, their own doctors and dentist surgeries etc. There is no real community here with the adults, there are some friends groups and sports clubs but pretty much no tight knit community. It never used to be this way but as the town grows people become more alienated. The kids can get away with murder because nobody knows each other, whereas when I grew up and used to visit the village you couldn't do anything wrong because if anyone saw you they'd say

The towns near me because of this have brought up a bunch of wasters with no community values nearly all on benefits with a HUGE drug problem (mainly speed, cocaine and heroine) and nobody cares because there is no communal spirit.

Cities need more money to live in and it is not impossible but at least harder to live off the dole in a city so a lot of the scum move away from the cities, making them more bareable but also flooding the towns again with these shit cunt wasters and perpetuating the problem.

I live in Cromer and it's not too bad, but we're lucky and it gets a town of money through Tourism during the summer.

That being said, every fucking job is retail. So not a lot of career work but quite nice to grow up in.

And it's Norfolk so the crime rates and immigration are pretty low.
