Oil production decined steadily for decades under Gaddafi as the sector became less and less inefficient and he and his cronies shipped most of the profits to offshore banks instead of investing in improving the infrastructure to increase production.

Libyans sealed their own faith. Even if they were supported by foreign powers, it was initially the Libyans who picked up arms against their government and later invited foreign jihadists to aid in overthrowing their 'dictator'. Let them seap the rewards of their own destruction.

I'm torn on what I think about the murder of Gaddafi.

On one side, he was a genuine leader who wanted a united Africa&ME where everyone would live in luxury due to the MASSIVE amount of nationalized resources rather than being exploited by global banks, colonists, China etc. If he somehow stayed in power (impossible desu), his union would be a major superpower.

On the other hand, he was the greatest external threat to western civilization. He could have brought the collapse of the USA (again, if we somehow didn't intervene) and create a Muslim/African dominated world.

When an American talks about the "collapse" or "destruction" of the USA, that isn't literally what they mean; they just mean having the USA fall from it's position as the most powerful nation; American Exceptionalism is an unusual thing but once you understand it their beliefs and actions start to make a bit more sense.

Overall we in the Anglosphere and Europe side with the USA because united, we can oppose any other superpower. America has a lot of weight to throw around, but they are never good at prolonged engagements.

The current balance of international power is much more stable than it has been for centuries. Right now it's really a case of "better the devil you know" rather than what would be, morally, more correct.
