My dad is in a nursing home getting expensive chemo drugs that cost thousands, meanwhile he gutted the family home, spent it all on an expensive car that he only made the min payment on, and blew all of his credit to the point where debt collectors ring everyone.

I'm luckily finishing college - at a community college for relatively cheap - and I'll come out with a healthcare degree that will get me auto-hired for $25 an hour in the area with all the overtime I want, and since I've faced a life in apartments and probably never owning a home or getting married to a fucked up American woman, I'll probably just look for a nice studio apartment in some metro where they are offering me good money.

I'm thinking Houston. Good weather, and the best job opportunities according to everyone in my field. Not too thrilled about the possibilities of getting slaughtered by a cartel, but whatever.

Now most employers expect employees to have college degrees and several years of experience before hiring them. The post "entry level job, must have 5 years of experience" is very common these days.

I worked the oil field years back where even labourers were in high demand. I saw guys demand a retroactive pay increase before they would go out on a job because they got a competing offer (he got a 4K check same day!).

The entire employer/worker mentality was beautiful. Bosses respected and treated employees fairly and gave them perks for loyalty. You could show up 15 minutes late without being bitched out like a child because they understood shit happens. It was better not knowing that world, because now it makes shit jobs even worse.

Training is a complete joke and only takes a few weeks. There are dorms at the training academies and at many of the units, and there are also $4000 bonuses for anyone willing to sign a contract to work at an understaffed facility for a year.

The job kind of sucks and the pay could be better but it's one of the only jobs out there where it's a guaranteed hire, you get paid a living wage, and being racist at work is not only not going to get you fired, but is expected.

All you have to do is sign up for a testing date and show up at the testing center.
