One key to this is getting young men to understand that the world / life is not supposed to be easy, and that it never was.

And for them to understand that the challenges are the things that shape us into men. Manhood is something that is developed, it's not something you just have or you don't.

The problem with 'manchildren' like gamers etc. is that they grew up with a consumerism that gives you the impression that things are supposed to come easily and immediately. When they realize that woman can be challenging, or that their goals aren't met right away, they conclude that they failed, that they're born losers, and immediately give up and resort to a life of comfiness and gaming and porn, rather than continuing to go out and improve themselves and work harder.

And progressive men aren't helping either. Some of them may have things a little easier: more wealth, a somewhat easier time with women, and in their affluent lifestyle they become spoiled and forget that the world is actually a hard and often intolerant place, and begin to buy into a progressive attitude that projects their Western comforts on the world.

The thing is, some of the anger and despair on this board is very on-point in recognizing a lot of the problems of our time, but one thing I think it gets wrong is this implication that things are supposed to be easier or better. Men in more traditional times understood, by default, that life is hard, and faced it accordingly. We need to just accept that this is our challenge for our time (these corrosive progressive values and materialism that are ruining us). Despairing over it all assumes that life should be easy. But if you believe in a man's responsibility, you will accept that there are problems - real problems that need to be fixed - but then step up with a winning attitude rather than talking about suicide, or running away or giving up.

First you'll have to define masculinity, beyond superficial nonsense like having someone clean up after you. Think about the stereotypical masculine and feminine responses to stressful situations. The man remains cool and solves the problem, the woman melts down.

So then, to start, two important factors: levelheadness[1] and self-control. The former so that you can assess a situation and determine the best path of action, and the latter so that you can execute upon that judgement.

How to cultivate these virtues? I'm not sure. I recall seeing that testosterone levels may be positively correlated with them. So do things that will increase your testosterone, like lifting. Other than that? Meditation perhaps could help. And of course, general life experience.
