Reading up on the history of The Internet, and its creation by DARPA. Some interesting stuff..

>In October 1962, Licklider was hired by Jack Ruina as director of the newly established Information Processing Techniques Office (IPTO) within DARPA, with a mandate to interconnect the United States Department of Defense's main computers at Cheyenne Mountain, the Pentagon, and SAC HQ. There he formed an informal group within DARPA to further computer research. He began by writing memos describing a distributed network to the IPTO staff, whom he called "Members and Affiliates of the Intergalactic Computer Network"

My question is; when a US Department of Defense agency created something as valuable as ARPANET, did they /really/ just release it into the public in a hands-off fashion, or are we all part of an experiment?

The thing that bugs me, is that The Internet seems to be coming full-circle; from a military experiment, to an 'open' public experiment, and finally, an experiement in censorship and population control.

Thoughts?

That was always the plan anon.

Societal engineering through cyber means.

Just wait for VR/Oculus rift, people will never leave their seats while having their thoughts programmed from the backends of major ISPs and intelligence agencies.

The internet is the tip of the fucking iceberg when it comes to these organizations - the breakaway civilization, whose black budget dwarfs national economies. They've had a hand in everything, since before everything was a thing. It's all so god damned compartmentalized, that a lifetime of individual investigation will only leave you with more questions than answers.

I always though it was interesting that IT technology was ever allowed to be sold outside of the united states. networking gives you such an insane advantage over everyone else, would you really let it go unless you already had uncontested control over it to begin with?

I think the government has been consistently working on having total surveillance over communication, and the Internet is the best platform for this. This type of consolidation of power is what all governments unchecked seek to do. All innovations on the Internet, such as Facebook, have had value in their ability to monitor people's communications and create dossiers of personal information and providing the government access to it.

It's naive to think that the government agency's like DARPA and the Department of Defense created such an incredible technology like Internet networking and simply released it into the public "in a hand's-off fashion". Yes, we are all part of a giant experiment. The Internet has never been open, egalitarian, free, anonymous or in the hands of the users.

Hey, NSA!

Well, you know the answer. Their mainframe actually runs NSA.
So yep, we probably are a part of an experiment.

This is the man running project IMMERSE the DARPA funded game initiative:

http://www.soe.ucsc.edu/people/michaelm

He takes the applications as seen here:

http://games.soe.ucsc.edu/sites/default/files/IMMERSE%20Project%20Scientist.pdf

His name is listed as the contact.

Also look on their main page: http://games.soe.ucsc.edu/

At the bottom under friends/sponsors. DARPA is proudly listed. Some things you should know about Mr. Mateas is that he gave keynote speechs for DiGRA 6 times over 6 years. He also did a huge amount of research for them.

More interesting, look at the students listed:
http://games.soe.ucsc.edu/people/students

Look at the bottom under the title: Digital Arts/ New Media. That first name was in the google DiGRA leak. She is also a student of his.

There are numerous connections, go look who he wrote research with for DiGRA and who that man is.

Conspiracies aside, if you read the original documents of the planning of the ARPANET, you would understand why it eventually passed into public use and why it has resisted control where other mediums like cable TV and telephone were easily taken over by private enterprise. At the time, the Cold War was going strong, and so one of the primary design objectives of ARPANET was for it to be highly resilient in case of Soviet attack, ensuring that the network was highly redundant and not dependent on a few central nodes. So, if you want to thank anyone for why the Internet is the way it is, thank the Soviets.

#gamergate [4chan spam bypass 5554342382723]

TO ALL THE PEOPLE WANTING OUT OF 4CHAN CENSORSHIP, READ THIS THREAD

[REMEMBER TO REPOST THIS COPY/PASTE AS I WILL BE BANNED FOR DOING SO, LET OTHERS KNOW OF THIS]

If you don't know what is going on, ALL GAMERGATE THREADS ARE BEING INSTANTLY PURGED FROM /V/ AND /POl/. Almost instantly, it´s insane. We can't discuss gamergate anymore on 4chan.

There is a brand new chan ( m sterchan.org, it´s name is censored here), it´s only 5 months old but it´s already the second fastest english speaking chan. It´s /b/ already gets 1k posts a day. It has done something really fucking remarkable, 7chan which was made years ago doen't have a fraction of its activity.
How did it get so popular? Because was based on allowing freedom of speech, and it has a unique moderation style to support that without the need for mods deleting or banning people.

It´s truly freedom of speech chan and it got so popular so fast because of that. You have no idea how hard it is for a 4chan alternative to get popular, it never ever happened before, except with this chan because it is so different. It´s still under construction, so it looks like shit, but that´s also good because you get to start browsing it when it all began.

Pic related. 4chan deserves to die for all its censorship.

REMEMBER: I will be immediately be permanently banned for posting this. It´s up for each one of you to spread the word of mchan

I personaly think people misinterpret what this whole "Surveilance" thing is and what DARPA/DiRGA are probably doing.

You see, democracy works on one principle and one principle alone, and that is consent.

Manufacturing consent through a plethora of means is of utmost importance to the systems which leech of people and ultimately depend on the democratical structure of society.

Thing is that people would not willingly give a boeing of a fuck about living under "democracy" or not, if the state could deliver a fair and balanced administration.

No matter how fucking stupid a people become, they will always gravitate towards what's really best for the bulk of the people and will willingly make the few personal sacrifices they need to make to ensure a stable and strong society.

Unless that is, that they are confused as fuck...

And that is why we have a macro-multi-media aparatus of propaganda squirting whatever incomprehensible, shiny and loud bullcrap can keep the people either hooked to their hedonistic dead-ends or arguing -Incessantly- over rehashed and trite sociopolitical platitudes.

This whole [PURGED DATA] debacle goes to show not only that there's an entire group of people who get paid to play a roll in a social engineering act, but that this is the ONLY string left which keeps the world from plunging into the next age of enlightment.

People aren't asleep, they are just being bombarded with so much information and disinformation, they can't make out what's really what, and so some of them just sigh and unplug themselves from actual fucking reality.

since this seems a p red pilled thread for a change

/pol/ isn't red pilled on statistics and it's an almost impossible thing to do

DONT TRUST STATISTICS
Statistics are a field of science of themself, and statistics can and will be doctored in order to fulfill the requirements.

Also, there's something called expert avaluation, doctored statistics can be used for this, some retarded shill professor, the most new phenomenon 'experts'. Experts have zero value, it means nothing to be an expert. It simply expert evaluation.

Only actual chains of causality you can understand with simple reason (even though it might take some time to process), not a doctors degree, are trustable.

Real pictures or images in speech/ figurative speech, are the most simple tool of mind control. Don't trust anyone who just posts an image with a one liner (at best a simple opinion you can repeat then).

It was pretty much a complete accident brought about by the need for computers to talk to each other for research/business efficiency purposes.

Man is the true monster.

Right now you've got to realize its still humans managing all that data and information. When they create AI, what will the AI do with all the information on every human in the world?

I don't think our black ops guys even know the answer to that.

The Greek researcher Herodotus wrote: “There is a place in Arabia, situated very near the city of Buto, to which I went, on hearing of some winged serpents; and when I arrived there, I saw bones and spines of serpents, in such quantities as it would be impossible to describe. The form of the serpent is like that of the water-snake; but he has wings without feathers, and as like as possible to the wings of a bat.” (Herodotus, Historiae, tr. Henry Clay, 1850, pp. 75-76.) Herodotus has been called “the Father of History” because he was the first historian we know who collected his materials systematically and then tested them for accuracy.

The first century Greek historian Strabo, who traveled and researched extensively throughout the Mediterranean and Near East, wrote a treatise on geography. He explained that in India “there are reptiles two cubits long with membranous wings like bats, and that they too fly by night, discharging drops of urine, or also of sweat, which putrefy the skin of anyone who is not on his guard;” (Strabo, Geography: Book XV: “On India,” Chap. 1, No. 37, AD 17, pp. 97-98.) Strabos account may have been based in part on the earlier work of Megasthenes (ca 350 – 290 BC) who traveled to India and states that there are “snakes (ophies) with wings, and that their visitations occur not during the daytime but by night, and that they emit urine which at once produces a festering wound on any body on which it may happen to drop.” (Aelianus, Greek Natural History:On Animals, 3rd century AD, 16.41.)

>AI
Artificial and Natural are completely arbitary categories as far as I can tell.
Care to explain what artifical intelligence is supposed to be other than just another PC?
>>
>>35876304
Fully autonomous, emotionally intelligent, among other things.
>>
>>35876346
>emotionally intelligent
For what reason? It's not like we have a basis for comparison, but I have to assume that emotional intelligence is not necessary for a species, natural or artificial, to cooperate. Ants cooperate, build and wage war without empathy.
>>
>>35876562
empathy on your terms

How am i not chill for pointing out a really easy scheme? How is that not again distracting?
Those steps are easy to understand.

Now you even use some expert evaluation in order to make your completely unrelated point seem more profound.
It's still not in any way related to the topic.

I think it was pretty tenuous. DARPA gave money to a university regarding games as training research. Some people at the university have connections to zoe quinn and others.

Likely a coincidence being stretched further than it should.

>>35874316
Oh fuck. I'm putting my tinfoil on for this one. Darpa is testing AI with gamers to implement AI in real life combat situations.

I duno what the latest spin is, in OP its obviously new age inter galactic alien theme but its original inception is fairly well documented, provide redundant communications links to elite priests and politicians during and presumably after WW3. It has obviously mutated far beyond original intent, the first mutation was the rapid high speed redundant sharing of massive libraries in the edu domain actually.

Conspiracy theories aside its really up to civilization and humanity what happens with it in the end, all technology is a means to and end, the question is what shall be the end?
