Grounds all planes.
Stops Ebola from spreading.
If shit goes crazy in New England I propose all /pol/ dudes in New England meet at Rocky Pond in Bangor Maine. It will be our last true hope for survival.
If you do end up at my camp and it is the end times you must present a card which bears 5 of clubs. or the /pol/ insignia
worst case scenario is a rift fracture and fissure eruption between dyngjujokull and bardabunga. Which would either melt half the glacier or throw enough ash and sulphides into the atmosphere to freeze and bury europe and make it snow in dallas in july.
Well, there might be worse. With volcanoes a lot of things are realistic. But often overestimated.
Realistically an eruption would make it colder for a couple years in the northern hemisphere but other than that it will probably not impact much.
Now if only we could figure out how to gradually vent pressure without causing an eruption...
I am Icelandic and this doesn't scare me. We here in Iceland are hardy and resilient people. For 1000 years all we've done is work in the winter and enjoyed 3 months of summer. The motherland has forged us to withstand her temper.
We haven't had a major eruption in the modern era so it is hard to say. All I know is that volcanic ash makes soil and water acidic and can spread a long way, and that it collects in waterways which are sometimes used to water crops. So between cooler temperatures, less rainfall, and acidic soil one could expect massive crops failures and possibly famine.
Basically it would be like the day after tomorrow
ashes may ground airplanes in the North emisphere: you'll have to take a boat to cross the equator and then take an airplane there
also, that Transiberian train will get overloaded
please tell me this is a joke question
if not, allow me to educate your ignorant ass. ebola is airborne, but it cannot survive outside the body for long. ebola wouldn't survive a 10 mile trip in air currents much less a trip across the atlantic ocean
More like you are being slapped in the face happenings from revelations but your still in denial.
well you're right it's not technically living but it's still functioning. if said virus stays in the air for too long it dies as in it's not a functioning virus anymore. it was never alive to begin with but it becomes denatured if it doesn't find a host soon enough
Approximately how long would ash even cover the planet assuming the worst case scenario happens with this eruption, People ping Yellowstone at ~10 years, this seems magnitudes weaker by comparison.
>that smug picture
>somehow knowing these events are revelations and not merely coincidences
Yes so you are consulting 12 yo boys with dorito covered pubic hair covered hands and us army dipshits who just want to get off their shift so they can go buttfuck in the shower.
It would be mostly constrained to the northern hemisphere, particularly the arctic, depending on the jetstream. The rate would vary and coverage would be be a long drawn out line with plumes due to varying currents. It probably would take a few days for some of the gas or ash to fully circle the earth.
Believe in what? Revelations, at a 'real world' level is all a metaphor for the fall of civilization (Roman Empire in particular), but as you might have heard, history repeats itself. Revelations goes beyond that, as there are 'echoes' of this in every domain of experience (physical/mental/spiritual/etc), since it's all based on the cosmic vision.
tl;Dr lrn2metaphor, the ’theists' are a lot saner than you think they are
nothing to be concerned about. Nothing interesting ever happens, any where.
prepare to stfu doofus
go play dungeons and dragons in your underoos
Right now the eruption is sub-glacial and there's a 400 meter solid icecap sitting on top of the volcano. As the lava interacts with this cap, it melts and releases steam; but the pressure remains contained. That being the lava keeps pouring out, heating the steam and ice-cap even further.
Basically, right now, you're having steam explosions underneath that ice-cap that is also aiding in melting faster.
You're okay as long as the volcano doesn't breach the ice-dome. But if it does, most of Europe is fucked. And by fucked, we mean, that all air traffic will ground to a halt for like 2-3 months easily.
The entirety of Europe in the path of the ash-plume, will see several TRILLION EUROS worth of economic loss. In other words, the moment; the MOMENT, on the live-stream, you see the volcanic plume penetrate the ice and go 13 miles straight up. You can snap your fingers. That snapping moment will equal to 2-3 trillion euros vanishing from the market over the course of the next 2-3 months.
The magma will penetrate the cap.
There's also a massive dike of lava building to the west, they claim 200 million cubic meters of lava is pressurizing there.
We could see a double explosive event.
Hapcon-2 is confirmed. Hapcon-1 is only guaranteed if:
1. the volcanic eruption penetrates the ice-cap
2. results in a ash plume similar to the 2010 eruption.
It will be Hapcon-0, if it turns out that the eruption trail is say 5x longer than 2010 eruption, because this volcano in particular is basically a sleeping dragon that's rumbling to wake.
Famine and cold resulting from sulfur dioxide in the upper atmosphere blocking sunlight.
It happened with the much smaller Laki in the 1700s and caused worldwide starvation, culminating in the French Revolution.
The impact to global trade is something I don't want to think about. Please.
At the moment it looks like the ash would be funneled down over norway and eastern europe.
Hopefully if there is a major eruption, its not rich in chlorine and fluorine.
Fire for the fire god.
The cleansing beckons.
Because volcanoes are the most destructive forces in nature. We have no way to predict what they'll do and how much damage their eruptions will lead to on a grand scale.
We have only a small idea of what the 2010 eruption did in Iceland, and the 2010 eruption was really small in comparison. And said small eruption grounded all trans-atlantic flight for a whole month, leading to something like 10-15 billion dollars in economic loss for all commercial air travel, which is an INSANE amount of money.
But the reason why this reactions here are so extreme is because it's not just some regular volcano sitting on some island. It sits directly underneath a MASSIVE glacier. The amount of water in that glacier is absurd, if even half that melts, I'd expect the sea level a few centimeters to few decicentimeters. This rise in sea-level would play hell on global climate.
And for the volcano to breach 400 meters of solid ice, would result in an immensely massive eruption. All that melted water, steam, and pressure has to go somewhere. Ice, even 400 thick, isn't so strong that it can contain that kinda pressure for long.
This is quite a serious event.
Hydrogen fluoride is extremely commonly released from this particular zone, as is sulfur dioxide.
Even a moderate eruption would cause worldwide chaos, if it erupts for a protracted period of time.
Music for volcanic events.
Where the flow breaches is concerning. either the top pops at dyngjujokull, or most of the channel goes with it. It thats the case, then we'll have another laki on our hands. Though its more likely the glacier will be breached before that and we'll have a single eruption.
I was there when the side chamber blew - was glorious.
>post yfw you watch the volcano explode on live cam
>mfw after the volcano explodes
It is erupting you faggot, but the lava is moving horizontally rather than vertically. This also has some insane expectations, because the surface area of the lava is now going to be much greater, which means the amoutn of ice melting and steam being generated is now huge.
Further more, you've got this fucker also in the making: >>34549671
If both go, it will be Hapcon-0.
Volcano trumps all.
no more isis, ebola, mexican, niggers this, jews that. Just the dead and the living. The good old days.
And oh yeah you survive on your own virtue, not on corporate politics. Good luck fatties.
FIRE FOR THE FIRE GOD
WINTER IS COMING
>We have only a small idea of what the 2010 eruption did in Iceland, and the 2010 eruption was really small in comparison.
We actually have no idea how idea how large or small this current eruption is so you are basically spouting bullshit.
Honestly fresh vegetables will be worth more than 30 year old virgins.
Are you indicating that a large proportion of the worlds' crops aren't in areas marginal to being too cold, wet, dry, etc, to farm?
We're talking worldwide destruction of crops leading to massive shortages and the loss of virtually all trade as nations hoard the goods.
>Still not seeing the true happening even when it's right in front of you
The volcano is being triggered prematurely so that an information blackout will be in effect over most of Africa, and then the western powers can use this as cover to insert operatives and begin a systematic purge of infected areas of Africa.
It's been clear for awhile that a purge was necessary to ensure that Ebola would not spread, but it would be impossible to openly do that without a massive amount of public outcry, regardless of the necessity. If all of these people who were infected with Ebola just happen to disappear during the chaos of an exploding volcano then no one is going to question it too much.
Lava could melt through the glacier at any time between now and mid day tomorrow.
The glacier has also water equivalent to 80% of water in the gulf of mexico. The eruption could cause some serious effects on sea-levels, if the eruption ends up being as large as previous events in 800 and 1400 A.D.
tfw there is no force on earth capable of competing against nature.
>my birthday monday
>mfw I could actually get a real happening for my birthday
But they have no clue how big an explosive event or eruption will occur, merely that it's erupting- it's below hundreds of feet of ice so they don't know how much magma is surging.

>tfw today is the Vulcanalia
>The festival of Vulcan, the Vulcanalia, was celebrated on August 23rd each year, when the summer heat placed crops and granaries most at risk of burning. During the festival bonfires were created in honour of the god, into which live fish or small animals were thrown as a sacrifice, to be consumed in the place of humans.
Can someone give it to me straight? Is there a good chance that this will have an effect on the civilized world? It seems like just a bunch of exaggerated happening posts and nothing is gonna come from it.
All air traffic, except military, will be grounded from US to Europe. Just imagine the havok it will wreak on the economy for US/EU in terms of business and transportation of goods.
We know that the ice-cap is melting, but we don't know how fast it's melting. That's why the prediction is basically between now and then next 20-36 hours. Also, since this thread was made, there haven't been any new mag4 earthquakes yet.
IF, hypothetically, we suddenly get a Mag6 or higher quake where the volcano is, I'd expect an explosive breach very soon.
>Can someone give it to me straight? Is there a good chance that this will have an effect on the civilized world? It seems like just a bunch of exaggerated happening posts and nothing is gonna come from it.
If it is as big a deal as the E15 eruption, which it is unlikely to be, it will inconvenience air travelers for a few weeks and force some Icelanders to move their sheep.
If that counts as Happening in your book, then yes, Happening Everywhere.
>Magna BSP, an Israeli security company founded in January of 2001, had set up the security system at the Fukushima facility a year before the nuclear attacks happened.
mmmmmmh, it's just a different single letter, right guys?
Does anyone recomend a good feed or earthquake monitoring site? I am on the Iceland one but I think they are controlling the informaiton, their banner basically says its not happening:
They have been known to spew a gas cloud that fucked people up in Europe, though not in a really really long time and is unlikely to do so this time.
Go with god bulge of vulcan.
Spray the mortals with your seed.
400 meter thick ice-cap anon. Also, horizontally-moving lava.
The chance of the eruption range where from being a whoopee cushion. Where the eruption continues for a while, but is a small steady one. Here, the lava spreads out over a large distance and melts maybe about a 100 meters of ice over say 20-30 square kilometers. Then over the course of the next 6-12 months, cracks in the ice releases the steam.
It eats its way through all the ice and erupts. This eruption causes a major earthquake, it also releases a massive ash-plume that goes up 20-25km. Finally, this secondary major earthquake causes the 2nd volcanic pocket to erupt as well, pouring out 200 million cubic meters of lava.
The second case is much less likely to happen and is an absolute last case event, cause if it goes; it will probably be similar to Krakatoa.
Finally, if you look at the earthquake map, We've had 3 mag 4-4.5 earthquakes along a line. Along with hundreds of mag 3s in a concentrated pocket.
If you follow the line of high-mag quakes, you can pretty much document where the atlantic plate grinds up against the european plate and subducts. The magnitude of quakes also dictates the rough movements of lava inside the earth's crust, and more importantly, where fissures are happening undereneath the crust.
On a related note, it seems Cam1 is being smothered up by a lot of fog and Cam3 is starting to show fog coming down from the mountains. No idea if this is natural or a result of the eruption and heating of the ice/escaping of some steam in some crack somewhere.
nothing serious is illuminati code for pack your shit.
It looks like the volcano is following scenario A: >>34553239
A prolonged slow eruption. However, there's a secondary magma chamber that's of concern as well.
So the advice to you right now is to pack a bag for 3 days of clothes, have your passport out where you can find it very easily, and just make general preps to leave IN THE CASE OF.
But don't actually leave. At best, you'll be ready to go the moment it happens, at the worst, you'll have to only put back shit. If you have any pets, plan accordingly for them as well.
Tl;dr, plan for the worst, hope for the best--but don't act on anything until it happens.
Remember that PR guy during Iraq invasion?
That's the media personified right there.
>It's all fine and dandy, nothing bad at all going on.
>Resume your daily lives.
>It's like fucking Krakatoa all over again. Christ.

Yeah, bro, come down to our glorious Motherland where nothing ever happens.
Alright, fuck it, I'm going to New York City for a week. Even if it turns out to be nothing, I deserve a vacation anyways and I'm too paranoid to go anywhere else in Europe. Downside is that I'm not exactly rich but not poor either so I'll probably end up in a shitty airport hotel.
It could take a turn for the worst yes or it could be a minor eruption, the truth is we don't know and there is no point on dwelling on what we can't know for sure, however people on this board HONESTLY believe that this will be the end of european civilisation as we know it, I pity them I really do, it's like they don't know how interconnected our society is and that trade routes exist not only beetween the america's and europe but beetween china and europe as well. Plus they think the Sulpher gas will just wipe out all the crops in europe altogether...in one fell swoop. I mean can you really expect /pol/ to be rational? No it's just people wanting happenings because they are 2 Bord's.
1.Board because it's summer.
2.Board culture E.G. ITS HAPPENING, THE JEWS DID THIS CANT MOSSAD THE ASSAD RON PAUL 20XX. etc, etc.
>implying some of us don't really want the destruction of mankind to become reality.
some things should just not last forever, we're a cancer on this plane.....especially the jews who are the cancer plaguing the cancer.
Rand Paul 2016
Something could happen and be the end of humanity as we know it and frankly that is what is needed.
If government's were as meticulous as they pretend to be the thing they would be doing right now is disassembling all the weapons they have. So they are not used against the survivors of the happening.
What you dont understand is that this planet and its inhabitants are one in the same. The planet will protect its inhabitants. There is no material that is lifeless other than that which is demonic.
The planet will protect the divine. Whatever it takes.
Oh, you mean the travel chaos caused by all that ash that instantly clogs up any fucking jet engine?
Or how about all those boat's that will get past the vast swathes of toxic gas murdering everyone in europe instantly.
Jesus fucking christ at least stay consistant.
We're all fucked man. Ebola is going to reach Europe and America inevitably and this volcano is going to spew an ash cloud that will kill hundreds of millions in Europe (including me).
>boom boom satellites
I swear youtube is becoming sentient. Shit first the fergy riots (see pic) and now this.
Get one of those at the bottom of the page and a bag full of particle filters and hybrid filters.
Hybrids for gas and ash
Particle for ash only.
That ash is going to get into your lungs and it's going to fuck them up.
Either by filling them up or the small glass particles are going to scar them to shit and you're going to suffocate.
Cant sulken the Vulcan
Cant contain the terrain
Nature war now!!
Its annudah shoah, the Earth is oppressing me.
It's nature, unpredictable. I could be wrong.
It's possible that many of the subsurface quakes could be resulting from the massive ice-sheets cracking some 2-300 meters down from the intense heat. Remember, the lava flows so far have been horizontal.
What I think is happening is that these ice-sheets cracking are resulting is a significant amount of shaking, as 3-400 meters of ice, or 900-1200 feet of ice is nothing to scoff at.
The release of this energy across several kilometers is affecting the ground, since the energy is most likely to be directed downwards than up. It's like grass breaking from the point of origin, you have major fissures develop from the eruption origin and then hundreds of smaller and smaller fissures develop along the main crack.
Anyways, when these ice-cracks happen and direct the energy downwards, since with a horizontal lava flow, you have a greater heated surface area below than above, any pressure at subsurface gets affected by these ice-quakes as well.
And when you have many of them or a long string of them, it leads to major quakes at variable depths.
The 20 or so hours is the general prediction by the geological department of Iceland. It could be earlier, it could be later. I mean, for example, Krakatoa had a series of minor eruptions, followed by a pause, before the island blew itself out of existence.
