>get master's degree in history
>rack up $50k in student debt
>try to get job in my field
>you need at least 5 years experience!
>end up working in the gift shop at my town's train museum for $8 an hour while I live with my parents
>I hate trains
What the fuck? How are we supposed to get work experience if no one hires entry-level college grads?
>Got a degree in a hobby.
>Does not know college is meant as a way for you to get connections and internship placements while you study.
>Not coming out of there with 3+ years of experience in different places.
> Going to University in the first place
> Going to University and getting a fucking degree in History
Wait to be a good fucking College/University Goy, Should have joined the military.
Life is not a linear RPG, you need to go and actually do shit. Think outside of the box.
These are not stages of a game that you can complete and, as a reward upon "leveling up", you get put into the next one with everything given to you on a silver platter.
Fucking meet people, and then use these connections as a stepping stone to climb higher.
You need to get off your imaginary rails and blaze your own trail, you shitlord.
Scary? Yes. Risky? Yes. Is it better than being a drone, or a tiny cog in a machine that does not care about you? Absolutely.
>I hate trains
Well stop acting like one.
>mfw this shit.
> Implying you aren't a University marketer
Yep sure thing Mr. Goldstien I'll be sure to go into debt for you instead of going out and serving my country like a real man.
>get master's degree in finance
>rack up $50k in student debt
>try to get job in my field
>get a job with a bank after a few weeks of sending out applications
>end up working for $60 an hour while I live with my parents
>didn't go to college
>started working right out of high school
>27 now, have enough work experience for good jobs
you don't need to go to college for 60% (or more) of the jobs out there. college is and always has been a scam.
>get a useless degree
>be surprised when you can't find a job in your useless field
hint: you have been conned
>> TFW finished my gunsmithing apprenticeship
>> Not even telling you foggorts how much i make
>> I make my own flexible hours
>> Full benefits
>> Two cars
After I was ostracized at university for differing opinions other than the liberal party line I just dropped out.
Saved a shitload of money. Been working since I was 14 years old, I will be able to retire and I have zero debt. Plan on opening my own shop in a couple years.
>one year away from getting a MA in English (specialized for teaching) and education
>be from Europe so no college debt because the state pays as long as you don't fail exams
>English teachers in high demand, qualified to work as a school counselor, in HR, daycare centers, etc.
I have no connections though
OP, when you go for that sort of degree become a teacher. Do it for a few years then leave after the 5 years and when you have experience doing a job.
Then you can start shifting around in the job market.
umm history majors are way better degrees and actually respectable compared to these sociology shit degrees.
Terrible comparison. With that said the market for such degrees may not be there anymore.
>get in shape
>learn about exercise
>get personal trainer certification for $500 bucks
>make $40 bucks an hour to coach people in person or $100 per month per client to write them programs online
>average around $600 a week working less than 12 hours
>love my job, love helping people get strong
>tons of time to work on other pursuits, read books, work on my house, etc
i don't think i'll ever get a 'full time' job if i can grow my business a bit more. it's not huge money but the sense of self-determination and the fulfillment i get from my work is too good to trade.
When did getting a History degree become retarded? It used to be a noble pursuit, one of the classic degrees. Sad times.
I'm going for a Software engineering degree, I'm going in with practically no knowledge of coding so I hope I'll do alright.
that's how America used to be. that is what America was like in its greatest years (40's, 50's, 60's) before things became unsustainable and greedy jews started shipping factory jobs oversees
>$100 per month per client to write them programs online
People just like throwing money away don't they?
>get stupid degree
>complain on internet because you wasted your money
>still believing boomer lies
>Friend and I go to community college
>He does pluming
>I do business studies night time course and graphics as my main
>other friends full of them selfs with their internet test IQ scores, do maths and science and english and go onto uni
>they mock friend for doing pluming like they are above him
>I got mocked for doing graphics but not as much
>they tell us how they are going to be able to make £90k a year during their courses starting and we will be lucky if we make 12k
>me and my friend finish 2 years before them and start our "menial jobs"
>lose contact from asshats
>2 years later friends finish and come to gloat ( invite us to a graduation party)
>Friend now has a plumbing business and employs 6 (helped him start up)
>I own a decent print company
>Its 2014 and my uni friends have still not found a job in their field
Every time they spew nonsense about applying for a job and they think they are defiantly going to get it we tell them they don't want parrots to regurgitate a text book you learned 2 years ago
Enjoy your STEM degrees everyone, you won't get anywhere unless you have some connection during uni for experience
> Calls somebody a good goy for going to college
> tells people to join the institution that exclusively serves Israel.
just NASM. over time it's good to collect them all but so far it really hasn't been necessary and it seems like a big racket anyway ($500 fucking dollars to get a certification that you only 'use' to impress clients). I want to get a USAW certification soon though because I have a dream of running a crossfit box (big $$$)
I also give them constant reminders, advice, encouragement, etc. You'd be surprised how much of a difference it makes
you can land pretty decent jobs with museums, historical sites, conservation, libraries, etc. OP is probably retarded and didn't make any connections in school or do any internships
>didn't go college or even get my diploma, left school at 16
>been working various menial jobs since
>working always sucked and looking for worked always sucked
>left my last job a week ago due to my hours being cut
>constant dread at first as finding a job took forever in the past
>now getting offers flung at me cause of all the bullshit experience i've managed to gain
>had two people email me today asking me to apply for jobs they've posted
Been like this all fortnight. Don't get me wrong, these are shit jobs that don't pay very well, but I have the luxury of picking the cosiest. I'll go with whichever one involves the shortest commute and involves the least amount of grunt work.
As someone who is very invested in their hobbies and doesn't care about a career outside of them whatsoever, it feels like I'm in slackers paradise.
okay niggers I just found out a few years ago my parents already paid for my college (four years of everything for free)
what should I major in? I plan on getting something relevant to helping me in the service because I want to be an officer in the navy once im out.
I was thinking history since its my best subject but the job field is shit for that. any recommendations?
bullshit, first year apprentices don't make anywhere near 1k a week.
people will talk shit but minoring in philosophy is a good way to expose yourself to important writings from the past. Having a decent professor guide you through Aristotle, Thomas Aquinas, Kant, etc will give you serious mental gains if you put in the effort.
Anyone ever done the math, like how many history majors they pumped out in comparison to those sorts of positions available in the current free market? Probably would have been better off being a theologian.
I worked with a history major once, in the tree service business, he was clearing 50k a year though, in reasonable shape, no neck beard, he was fairly red-pilled actually kek. A bit of a tyrant but we assumed this went with his privileged status so mostly ignored it.
liberal arts majors are only worthless if you don't do anything else while you are at school. You have to make your resume impressive by doing internships, running clubs, writing for the newspaper, contacting employers early on, etc etc. If you just go to school and get the degree it is pretty much worthless
>I hate trains
I don't know why I laughed at this, but I did.
I plan on enlisting in the Air Force and getting paramedic training. After I serve for four years, if I like it, I'll stay for the full 20. If not, I'll leave after 4 and find work as a civilian paramedic, make money, and retire at a decent age because I'm not planning on getting married or having kids.
You need to man up, son. Whe I graduated with a Bachelor in the lliberal arts, I walked straight into the fist workplace I saw, and asked to speak to the manager. I looked him straight in the eye and said "Sir, I should fit right in here."
And that's how I started my career as a fluffer.
>"What is your job?"
>"Sh...sheet metal worker!"
>"Did you make your quota of sheet metal today? Yes or no?"
This is why Germany is an economic powerhouse despite losing two world wars. I want to empty every American college of all liberal arts and "communications" degree majors. I would send the women home and the men into my new heavily armed border guard, alternate energy department, or agriculture. Fuck this people sitting around doing nothing anymore.
Anyone who resists gets either the beating of their life in the streets or shot in the head in the streets. Time for some harsh discipline.
>I've had too much coffee this morning.
>get master's degree in history
>live in Ireland (Semi socialist)
>get a grant from the government
>no debt and basically free money
That's my plan anyway. One of my friends didn't need to use any of his money for college and ended up using it to upgrade his PC.
Tons of fitness personalities do this nowadays, actually. If you ever check facebook pages for people like Joey Gloor or Simeon Panda, every other post is "get ripped, buy my personalized program".
NASM and similar certs are actually easy money though, and I plan on getting that or NSCA when I'm done my associates at the end of the year. A co-worker of mine at the gym I worked at has his program accredited by NASM and he makes way more $ just for that fact alone. If fitness is your thing, there's many avenues for making money in it.
>dream of running a crossfit box
You're not going to dedicate it to pure Crossfit right? I know it's got low overhead and draws from an endless supply of paleo retards...but cmon man.
things may have changed in the past few years but most of my mates did apprenticeships out of high school and only earned about 15 an hour in their first year.
actually thinking about it now it might be an age thing to, maybe if you started an apprenticeship after 21 you'd get more...
you can run a box pretty much however you want. the box i used to visit had people doing straight up olympic lifting programs, powerlifting, etc. The crossfit programming there was for the old ladies/fatties who were just there to lose weight, and they never were allowed to do olympic lifts or to do things when their form wasn't ready. All in all it was a great training facility and is still run really well
>get master's degree in history
>no experience in work
shit son, the least you coulda done was go into work a few years before the masters, there is fuck all point in all the way to masters if you've not a single day work experience
Personal trainers are little more than glorified adult babysitters at the gym, and they make bank doing it.
PTs only make so much bank because people as a whole are hopelessly retarded about basic fitness and nutrition.
1. You cannot get a master degree in a college. Degrees are attained in a university, diplomas are attained in a college.
2. History is a very specific field with much graduates and only little jobs. Then there is also the fact a diploma like history does not prove your level of intelligence and persistence like a diploma in engineering or mathematics would.
3. You should apply for jobs that require experience, despite having no experience. Either lie and make up your experience ( most don't ever check ) or make your application good enough that the lack of experience does not matter.
If you like History I'd say do History with Concurrent for teaching as it would give you a good back up career, at least if your in Canada.
If your American do a STEM, preferably engineering, unless you suck at science or math.
>get bachelor's degree in art
>live like hobo, rack up less than $10k in debt
>work at a factory for three years
>pay off debt
>sell out art shows, open music merchandise distro
>basically draw and screen print in my own kitchen
>pull in six figures in a bad year
lol useless degree
>Get my Bachelor's Degree with Honors
>Try to get a job in IT
>"You need at least 3-5 years of experience"
>Requirements: Must know Windows
>Literally never even get contacted due to the lack of experience
Even Best Buy won't fucking contact me, because apparently they'd rather hire high school dropouts than a college grad.
Hell yeah my nigga, feels good to be productive
>insurance/finance and economics/finance double major
>health science minor to get a leg up on competition in HMO hiring process
>active member of the insurance honor society
>chose to go to school in the mecca of American health insurance
>made sure to take a shitton of AP courses in high school so I'd be a year ahead when I got in
Doing the credit equivalent of a five-year degree in four years, feels fokin gr8; oh, and
you were meant to get traineeships by sucking up to lecturers and help them out all the time, get volunteer work at a museum while STILL STUDYING. you done goofed. you have no connections after spending years at a university THE PLACE YOU GO TO MAKE CONNECTIONS THAT WILL HELP YOU GET JOBS FOR THE REST OF YOUR CAREER.
>Do well in school
>'Don't worry about what you do, just do something you enjoy'
>Stuck doing a history degree
Thanks, modern British education. I know I'm still young and can turn it around, but I feel like I've wasted so much time thanks to this push to get everyone into university. At least I can always teach and leach off the state like most of the country.
that's because a high school dropout with an A+ certification has about 4 times your knowledge about actually working on computer hardware.
I've been in IT for 20 years and all the fags with a degree in CompuSci or MIS go into sales because they don't know a fucking thing about actual computers
Post pic of your work.
But in all honesty, only about 50% of biochem graduates get job on their own field(at least in Finland) and unemployment rate is about 15%(at least 100% higher than national average)
tiarawhy.com for my stuff. And that's pretty much why I dropped out, I started looking at interships and talking to those with years in the field and it was some grim stuff. Without going for a ph.d the best i could hope for out of college was a sub teacher group or going for certifications to be a lab tech.
>be decent high school student
>get shit ton of scholarship money
>go to school for free
I don't feel bad when anyone complains about school being expensive. This is what you get for smoking weed and fucking like rabbits in high school.
>studying useless degree at one of the most expensive schools in the country
>wasted my freshman year in my room on 4chan
>finally realize over the summer that I am fucked without networking
>program at school more or less forces you to meet other people etc.
I'm actually kind of scared to go back, but it is too late to drop out. Luckily people seem to like you a lot as long as you pitch for drugs.
>goto Art school
>pay for degree on part time work in summer and on weekends
>economic crash happens months away from graduation
>go back to school for a second degree to wait for the crash to blow over
>friends who graduated immediately experience money and lack of work issues. They all work as dishwashers, mall clerks or waitresses even today
>continue work on degree, attend entertainment technology conference that comes to town where I track down and socialize to developers about gaming trends
>offer my business card at the end, shake their hand and thank them
>months later one of the developers calls me to help do concept art for his new studio as an unpaid intern
>I work for a month, trading concept art for lectures on the inside and out of the industry
>quit after learning how terrible it is for artists in the videogame industry
>find and overhear a director one day in a coffeeshop, converse with him, he asks if I do storyboards, I bullshit and say yes
>a month later I'm storyboarding and working alongside a director on shoots for commercials
>graduate, hear an animation studio is opening in my city
>apply and embellish my previous work experience and length working them
>producer sends me a series of animation tests for computer programs I've never used before
>stay up all night learning the programs and doing my best on the test
>employer is convinced i am a talented art director of sorts so I'm immediately hired on a senior salary starting at 60k three months after graduation
>tfw making in the most competitive and chronically underpaid industries around.
Fortune favours the bold anon. I only had maybe a few months of varied experience before securing my career.
OP is probably retarded in general. I'm a theater major and I hear the same shit all the time. Unsurprisingly the people who bitch like OP are always the retarded ones who not only generally suck at acting but never actually took the time to study their lines or anything else.
>4 times my knowledge
I still find it absurd though that a college degree isn't worth shit to many employers. Its as if no one is willing to train an employee these days, and expects them to come with years worth of experience straight out of college. My 3 months of volunteering in an IT department won't get me any job despite there being nothing left to experience in that position.
If I had the cash, I could get an A+ cert next week if I had to. But its kinda hard to get cash when literally no one is willing to hire you.
>get master degree in mathematics
>my professors beg me to go for the phd
>head hunters call me
>tfw turning them down
>get master's degree in history
Get the fuck out of here.
>signs his life over to be a debt slave that paid for his own propaganda.
serves you right you shit for brain
Seriously, what's wrong with history? It is important to have people who can understand the past.
Disclaimer: I don't study history.
we'd like to know your plans to pay the bills when you're 40, anon
So, the value of your education is dependant on how much money you can make?
Am I being shilled here? Or did /pol/ start sucking the neoliberal dick?
Grats on your debt.
I would recommend going into industries with massive turnover like call centers or collections. The pay sucks to start but better than what you are making and you will outlast your competition if you are not a lazy shit and get promoted just for being there a while and not sucking.
Its funny how "hurr i hope u get raided" is all you guys ever can say about it. its not going to happen. not getting raided is incredibly easy. especially when you have legality behind you.
>What are those 4 months between school years?
Time for more school
Seriously, when I was at community college I took Fall and Spring classes, then the short Summer and Winter classes
I think that is why I got my AS in 1.5 years and my friends took 4 years or more
>tfw double majored in history AND political science
>tfw been unemployed since graduating 4 years ago
>tfw got idea to turn my life around by teaching English overseas
>acquired tefl cert. It was a legit in-class course that included student teaching and cost $2k
>tfw was going to teach English in Korea but got arrested after trying to avoid running over a rabbit by braking hard. Some basketball Americans rear ended me, started freaking out about not having insurance beat me up, then whined to the police that I was the aggressor when the cops arrived. Pleb cops didnt believe me even though i was the one with a bloody nose, busted lip, bruised face, etc. At least the nigs car was smashed and my 99 jeep Cherokee was barely damaged . . .
>Told I was being arrested for attempted homicide, then assault with a deadly weapon when I was in jail, then . . .
>DA rejected case less than 3 weeks later (courts are overburdened in this area - probably like a day to half a week anywhere else)
>tfw cant teach overseas in a bunch of countries just because of an arrest (with no conviction, plea deal, nothing)
>tfw back to sitting in my room all day with no idea what to do now
And who doesn't want to work 100 hours a week on more or less freelance work? It all goes towards more money long term unlike the shit entry level jobs you will get after graduating.
so much complaining in this thread!
Im 28, virgin and have never had a job in my entire life. I dropped out of middle school and has smoked weed and eaten pizza ever since. Did i mention i just passed 350 lbs?
My life is great! Haha you idiots with think bodies, college degrees and no job! How loser can you be??????????
Funny thing about that is that you can pay the feds off. its called taxes (hefty ones at that but still). They only care about their money.
It's becoming overcrowded but I got in at the perfect time
>I hate trains
You're on the wrong board mother fucker.
>International central banks and monetary funds "print" money as much as they want. Most of it is digital now anyway. Debt slaves for life.
>For almost every other human activity they want currency, from eating and drinking to clothing oneself and finding a partner. Religion came from innate spirituality and patriotism from the tribe, but money they invented themselves- the most fantastic and effective of all their tools of domestication. They have convinced the slaves that money actually has some intrinsic value, since at some point in the past it actually did. Once they were finally able to disconnect money completely from anything other than their computers, they finally took complete control, locked the last gate and electrified all the fences. They ingeniously print it up out of the nothing and loan it with interest in order for 18-year-olds to spend four years drinking and memorizing propaganda as they begin a financial indebtedness that will most likely never end.
>By the time the typical American is thirty the debt is mounted so high that they abandon any hope of ever being free of it and embrace their mortgages, credit cards, student loans and car loans as gifts from a sugar daddy. What they rarely asks themselves is why they must work to make money while banks can simply create it with a few key strokes. If they printed out notes on their HP’s and loaned them with interest to their neighbors, they would wind up in a penitentiary, but not our friends on Wall Street- they do just that and wind up pulling the strings in the White House. The genius of the money scam is how obvious it is. When people are told that banks create money out of nothing and are paid interest for it the good folks are left incredulous.
>“It can’t be that simple!” No one wants to believe that they have been enslaved so easily .
