Beginning on the Syrian side of the border, the Syrian Arab Army’s Republican Guard and Hezbollah kicked off the offensive in the Qalamoun earlier this week, seizing almost all of the Jarajeer Barrens after a short battle with the Islamic State (ISIL).

On Saturday, the Syrian Arab Army and Hezbollah captured a half dozen sites in the Jarajeer and Qarah barrens, imposing fire control over the Zamrani Crossing, which left the Islamic State besieged inside the Syrian lands.

Meanwhile, inside of the Ras Ba’albak area of Lebanon, the Lebanese Army liberated several hilltops north of the ‘Arsal Barrens; this resulted in heavy losses for the Islamic State, including a number of terrorist personnel.

According to a military communique, the entire Qalamoun operation has resulted in the liberation of 78 square km of territory and more than 20 Islamic State terrorists killed.

Despite being released just yesterday, the footage shown in the video was captured prior to pro-government forces driving ISIS from the eastern Qalamoun region and de facto besieging Syrian rebel factions there within themselves.

The video shows Jaysh al-Islam militants battling ISIS forces in eastern Qalamoun with a range of smalls arms and heavy equipment ranging from AK-47 assault rifles to T-72 main battle tanks.

Moreover, the narrator in the video goes to extensive efforts to distinguish the apparent difference between Jaysh al-Islam’s version of jihad and the Islamic State’s version of jihad. To this end, the rebel propaganda piece emphases that ISIS represents an unjustifiable imperialist movement and that its self-declared state is illegitimate and un-Islamic.
Near the end of the video, Jaysh al-Islam claims that its forces had, prior to being isolated by pro-government forces, destroyed six tanks, ten 23-mm guns, four BMP-1s and two bulldozers belonging to ISIS as well as killing 825 of the terrorist group’s fighters. Furthermore, the Syrian rebel group claims to have captured two tanks, eight 23-mm guns, one Humvee vehicles and several MANPAD (shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missile) systems from ISIS.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (9:55 A.M.) – The Iraqi Armed Forces kicked off their long-awaited Tal ‘Afar offensive in the northwestern countryside of the Nineveh Governorate, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-‘Abadi announced this morning.

Led by the Federal Police and Iraqi Army, the armed forces stormed the Tal ‘Afar area from several axes, inflicting heavy damage on the Islamic State’s (ISIL) defenses.

According to the Iraqi military, their forces have already liberated the Al-‘Abrah Al-Saghirah area near Tal ‘Afar after overrunning the terrorist group’s positions near the city.
Once the Iraqi military takes control of Tal’Afar, the Islamic State will find themselves in serious trouble, as the former clears the remaining pockets of resistance in the Nineveh Governorate.

There are checkpoints on the roads.
Logistics is probably the most important part of any war. If you don't have the means to transport troops/supplies and to uphold that support, you're fucked.

So if some IS fucks try to sneak into the SAA backland, yeah, they could probably kill some people in a city. But hold that city? Even parts of it? Impossible.

Tal Afar was encircled in late 2016 but has not remained a priority until now due to the 9-month battle for Mosul, Nineveh’s provincial capital.
