Please research our history to your heart's content, and you will find that there are many things (both good AND bad) that we were not taught in school. Having said that, I do not feel that my history classes (VWO) taught me only the good or the bad. I feel I got a decently fair representation of Dutch history. The classes on the Golden Age did not focus only on slavery, and the classes on WW2 did not focus only on the NSB. Maybe things changed now, I graduated VWO in 2009. Maybe the is more SJW influence now, but from what I remember, the topics from my history classes seemed to be chosen more on which events were most influential, rather than which events show the West in the worst light possible.

Furthermore, use this knowledge only as a source of pride in your country and NOT in yourself. Use it as motivation to keep building on our beautiful history and culture, but do not use it as a source of personal pride. This comes across as (and often is) a sign of personal failure and grasping onto your country's culture and history to save some of your self-worth. Sort of similar to when Americans talk about "white culture" when every proud white European will tell you there is no such thing.
