I had 3 friends who went to GATE. All 3 were much more intelligent than me, and more athletic. One of them had the forehead scar.

Always looked up to them because in every situation it seemed like they knew a little more than anyone else in the room. They matured much more quickly too.

Today one of them lost their mind and I talk to them every now and then. Another went on to become a financial analyst for the Feds, and the last went into the Military never to be seen again.

I believe this program is designed to select those that are capable to making the jump to a higher intellectual plane. Some make it through the program and others wash out. Either way everyone involved with it faces a harsh and cruel life.

Weird. I was in GATE but had fairly bad grades because I was incredibly bored in class and wouldn't bother with the homework because it seemed too easy. I was always getting in trouble for reading way ahead of the class and not being able to stick to the slow pace that the teachers were going at.

I remember always having nightmares about the ocean. Either massive waves knocking out parts of California, deadly fog or my personal favorite, the ocean pulling away from the shore, revealing a sunken temple, followed by a massive fucking serpent monster rocketing out of the sea. I also had a lot of dreams that my dad would try to kill me.

I was in 'Cultural Connections Challenge' in I think 4th grade, and later 'Academically Talented.' I think my perception is way above normal, I tend to see and hear things other people don't. When I was in about 6th grade i had this profound like burst of what i can only describe as self consciousness, it literally made me shake and not sleep for days and I've never really been the same socially since then. My intuitive understanding of people's motivations is so high that it makes it extremely difficult to function. It's just uncomfortable. like if i wanted to i could probably manipulate my way into like any position but It wouldn't be right so I'm a neet right now trying to figure out what to do. I had a few surgeries when I was in same age range. I thought they were all because I would fall on playground and bust my head. I have several prominent forehead scars although for me to go to ER and get surgery doesn't make much sense for some playground fall.

I barely remember being told I would be in honors classes in second grade. It was supposed to be before school like one day a week but I don't remember ever being there but I remember walking to it. I was in GATE and only remember that the classes I was in were all military related. One was a code breaking class, in another we used to be in command of "platoons" in water balloon fights and tried to beat the commanders of other platoons. I remember the teacher telling us that winning was more important than keeping your troops alive. There was also another class were we were assigned a real world nation with a list of the resources that nation has (GDP, military capabilities, exports) and we spent the entire summer basically scheming against each other trying to increase our nations influence.

I went to GATE every summer until the 5th grade. That year I switched from a public school to a private, catholic school which I only got into because I was sponsored by a rich old italian lady that my parents told me to think of as my adopted grandma.

We went to some other school or something, and erected these domes from plastic sheets and tape and such. Felt extreme terror. I have had numerous recurring dreams, especially as a child/teen; these involve out of body experiences, combat (fights to the death, sometimes where I murder people, and sometimes where I feel impotent in my weapons or blows and die). It's incredible how well I remember dreams though, if I haden't been waking up after them I would probably confuse the memories for reality. Sometimes, I wonder if certain memories I have weren't just dreams...

We had the same exercise at the beginning of every day (it was only on Wednesdays) which involved listing everything we could think of about a subject. There was usually puzzle-solving (mostly algebra, riddles, and logic exercises), and we were constantly reminded of Bloom's taxonomy, followed by a lecture on our overall topic. I remember having to rate my performance every day, and having it rated by the teacher in a second column.
