I didn't find this out when I was researching depression. I found this out when I was trying to understand what honour meant to ancient peoples. Ancient peoples built up a society that was ideal; everyone's roles gave them meaning in life; and there was no anti-social behavior, because there was nothing conducive to greed or self-interest. Men had a sense of honour which went both up and horizontal. Even the commoners were "somebody".

Today, the most depressed peoples are Indians, Chinese and Americans.
Among the Americans, natives and white people are the most depressed; blacks are the least depressed.
The obvious lesson here, is that civilized societies that have more of a political backbone than a social backbone, are more depressed. Among those societies, those who have no identity or sense of brotherhood, are more depressed.

I have episodes of mania, but I don't get depressive. I used to get depressive. I may or may not have bipolar though.
It's not that they're not real diseases; obviously certain peoples and families are more prone to certain things. But it's the environment that really makes it worse.

Drink a little bit of coffee, and it wont hurt you; in fact, it could have some health benefits.
Drink too much coffee, and you will increase your risk of ulcers, heart disease, anxiety , etc.

My point is that we all individually have different needs when it comes to society. Some of us need constant attention, some of us need less attention; some of us need more validation, some of us need less; some of us need more social interaction, some of us need less.

My uncle's bipolar could be like the diabetes of society; he had a little too much unrequited social interaction (or lack) as a kid, and now he's suffering the consequences; some people are more prone to the "diabetes of society" than others.

I've personally unloaded cargo from these regions off of carrier craft and into storage at a military base.

I've heard from people I trust that they once walked upright like humans and had sentience. Haven't been there myself, so I only have their word for it.
