What really worries me is Sawant's idea of a City income tax, which is probably illegal in Wash state, but they are trying anyway. Under this proposal they will tax gross income, not net income, so for example any gains you had selling a property you lived in for 5 years would be taxable, unlike as per Fed tax law.

Also, what they really should do to keep the price of property down, is phase in a foreign investment tax, like Vancouver did. That way, new money coming into the city could be used to build low income housing, and it would help put the brakes on speculation in the housing market.
