Mohammed bin Salman is already in charge of Saudi Arabia and he is already destroying it from the inside. He is a dumb millennial who has no idea what he is doing, the disaster in Yemen is his fault, all the dumb economic reforms are his doing, and the whole Saudi/Qatar split is probably a result of his decisions too.

The US plane which shot down the Syrian Su-22 over Raqqa province yesterday was a carrier-based F/A-18.

That means the American plane took off from a carrier (George HW Bush), flew over all of Russia's radar and missile sites in western Syria, shot down the Syrian Su-22 in Raqqa, and then flew right back over all the Russian anti-air sites.

All this might do is

This whole east Homs mountain area is going to be a huge pain in the ass, because unlike Raqqa CS, or Suknah, IS rats will defend it to the last probably, because they're so well dug in and supplied.
Hopefully SDF stalls in Raqqa, giving Tigers enough time to push south and pressure the supply lines to this mountain area. Also some word around today that lots of lads got redeployed to the Salamyiah front, so maybe Syrian commanders steal our ideas.
We'll see, but not that fast, first cutting the south Raqqa CS/Suknah road, and advance on Suknah itself.

why doesnt assad just allow a an-com kurdistan feminist-anarchist-collectivist-smashmafash-social democratic meme state then just clamp own massive border controls and sanctions against said state?

think about just by assad king turk and literally who in iraq agreeing to joint sanction them and lock the boders they could effectivally turn "anarchist kurdistan" into gaza 2.0 in a few months tops (small borderline microstate in complete poverty and nonexistant economy completly reliant on int aid

asides assad cant be called oppesive for sanctioning an indi sovereign nation (in that case the U.S is oppressing NORK)

everyone wins assad gets complete control over the remaining regions of syria
the kurds get their feminist meme state that either falls apart from anarchist infighting becomes a commie dictatorship or is taken over by mid east dictator #95
asides if "muh anarchism" is so great its economy should be great in a few years R..Right?

anyone have any obections to this? i personally think in this scenario everyone wins

Many of the Kurds would be fine with rejoining Syria, especially because Turkey and Iraqi Kurdistan already closed their borders.

However all their foreign backers are way more interested in the SDF expanding its borders and blocking the trade routes between Syria and Iraq.

If the Kurds cannot do that, then they will probably be abandoned.

Funny enough independent Kurdistan isn't really bad for Russia i think.
They aren't Islamists that would expend into ex-soviet republics.
They are torn for turkey - a NATO country.
They are pain for Syria and Iraq but it doesn't really concern Russia.
They are American foothold in the middle east, but they have a bunch of them anyway.
The only bad thing is, it might be a lead to break-up of Iran, but they can probably handle it.
