This released Comey testimony makes Trump look much better/less dictatorial than the MSM leaks did. It's also clear that Trump never crossed a line with Comey, and even acknowledged he would like to know if anyone associated with him was colluding with Russia.

It mostly boils down to Trump wanting the public informed of the current situation regarding investigations, which was the truth. Comey and other agency heads merely believed it to be inappropriate to insert themselves into the public discourse about Russia.
