I know I sound like a retard, but there is definitely some affinity for the Portuguese language among the younger people who are into the rap/hip hop subculture.

I studied abroad in France (wanted to go to Portugal since I studied Portuguese, but couldn't so France was the next best option) and all the people I hung around with were huge into hip hop/rap, we went to concerts together, all the girls wanted Portuguese tattoos, all the guys who were French, but of Portuguese origins were always bragging about how they could speak Portuguese, there was a Miss Portugal pageant thing I went to in France for all the girls of Portuguese descent living in France, ect.
