How much closer do I need to get to my subjects? I've gotten a few really close ones zone focused hyperfocal at f/8 (2.5m) but people were blurry. Should I be sticking with 2m even though it's not hyperfocal?

nah its 3 x 30s exposures blended together with some luminosity masks. i have a color of a single exposure with a different composition but its just a single strike missed a few good ones because these things are so unpredictable i just set up a composition and an intervalometer and hope something hits. if the clouds dont move too much i can use a luminosity mask but once the clouds start moving around too much and you try blending it doesnt look natural at all

If I crank up the contrast, the shadow cast to the left side of the picture willd estroy all detail. I made it flatter on purpose.
I actually set the whitebalance on the clouds in post and it was yellow as fuck so I dialed down manually.
What's a good way to tell if the whitebalance is correct? I try to make images a tad warmer if there's people on them.

Can I get a recommendation on these two?
Left one is the RAW with the basecurve that Darktable puts on it based on camera automatically, and the right one is what I do with tone-curve by myself without the basecurve. I do that because often basecurve completely blows and crushes everything on a dynamically wide shot, especially faces
I sometimes have the feeling just sticking with the basecurve and not doing anything except maybe raise shadows and lower highlights is the best course of action and I'm just overdoing it with the editing.

They're both RAW, it's just that darktable automatically applies orientation, sharpening and Basecurve to the sidecar file for every RAW image. The basecurve completely alters colour and contrast, the original is very flat in comparison.
It's just that sometimes, for images that dont contain humans or faces, the Basecurve seems to be good enough.

i have a bunch of custom presets, all originally based on different VSCO profiles. i pick one that fits the occasion and tune colors / levels.
i use most tools available in lightroom (fading, split toning, tinting) but with moderation. even clarity is fine in small doses.

the lx100 feels great, with a decent zoom-range, and a manual dial for pretty much everything except ISO.
the main drawback is it's a bit too thick. also it's ugly as shit when powered on (with the lens protruding).
