I want to take photos like pic related, spanning the range from classy, shoulders up portraits, to explicit nudes. I want to do it all. I need help learning how to pose my model's body and especially her face.
One of the best ways to learn is to look at great photos and try to emulate their style. Once I can do that, then I can branch off and find my own original style. But for starters, I need a collection of photographers who do good work, and a collection of good shots to try to copy.
So, please post away.

Here's another shot I love. It's so sharp and has excellent colours. Is it possible to make photos like this without heavy use of photoshop?

No. Real women aren't made like that.

> this art board
The only art practiced here is the art of marketing
>>3076012
Just look up Maxim, Stuff, and Playboy pictorials/photographers. Not that hard mate.
>>3076036
Meh, I think this work is way more interesting than the muh grainy film, muh aspie architecture, muh dramatic rubbish bin shit that populates this board. You can call that stuff art and you can say this is just porn, but that doesn't mean that shitty art is better than this quality softcore porn.
>>3076055
It's boring it has nothing to even do with grainy or artistic, its boring. Plain and simple.
This is literally the image you'll see when you open most american womens magazines in the advertisement sections. Helmut Newton was one of the biggest fashion photographers and made oodles of money too, so if we're talking money and advertising it doesn't have to be this trite crap.
This is just Victoria's Secret catalog stuff. It's a technical exercise. Might as well be food photography. The subject matter is totally valid, but if you do it, try to have some sort of personal style and voice.
Look at Jeanloup Sieff, Newton, Frank Horvat, Jonvelle, Araki. Will post more if I think of them.
>>3076095
Thanks /p/hrend
>>3076095
You could say anything is a technical exercise. Photographing a beautiful woman and trying to capture her mood, her personality, some seductive feeling to the photo...is it really so much easier than the kind of photography that you would call "art?"
>>3076121
read and see more, you basic pleb.
>>3076121
The things you describe are valid things to aim for in photography. The example photos in this thread are just commercial product photography with no identity.
The point is to have some kind of opinion and voice in your photos, or it's just kipple.

> It's so sharp
Average at most, at least as it seems from your image.
You achieve this degree of sharpness quite easily with a decent CaNikonSony, don't even need the highest resolution bodies and the very best $2k+ price tag lenses. Just some decent FF setup.
> Is it possible to make photos like this without heavy use of photoshop?
No. This didn't only have good lighting + makeup. It is very much shopped.
Post examples of what you like please.

pubic hair has been accepted in japanese softcore still photography since the mid-90s. but pink was and is verboten, to the point that they used actual pubic hair in combination with retouching as a sort of merkin

>>3076293
See, to me this is awful. The two images in first two posts are so much sharper, girl is more attractive, shadows colours composition etc all more interesting.
This is grainy, of a kind of weird looking girl in an awkward pose, with a very ugly flower print something (???) next to her, standing next to a dirty window.
I guess I'm just hopeless and my photog career will never go anywhere, cause I think this is just dull.
>>3076647
It's a mediocre magazine scan from a different era of the internet. But there's no accounting for taste.
Make the photos that you want to make. There's a market for the sort of glossy glamour stuff in the OP, but I don't spend any time looking at it.
>>3076647
>I guess I'm just hopeless and my photog career will never go anywhere, cause I think this is just dull.
An artistic career won't go anywhere, maybe, but that's because half of the con of professional artistry is convincing others to buy shitty quality works.

well, this thread was useful once upon a time
Seems like the best thread to ask...
Tomorrow I got my first shoot planned. I'm very social, confident and as a nightclub photographer I just know how to interact with peeps.
I have never instructed a model to do stuff. I've been studying pictures I like. Even doing the poses myself, kinda ghey kek.
She has done some work before. I have no idea how to handle this. She really liked my idea/moodboard and she even shared some ideas herself. Should I just let it flow, let it go?

If you can't find even one good photo on the entire fucking internet to post as a good example of what to do instead, then your criticism doesn't count.
a couple more that i think are excellent, that i want to be able to do
Actor/model here. Recently got headshots done for my portfolio. They make me look good, but I'm not sure on the actual quality of the photos themselves (as in how well they were taken). My agent loves them, the photographer himself was a total bro from LA, but I was just curious if you all have some input. I believe headshot and whatnot are taken differently than one would take actual professional photography, but even then I had some questions. Sometimes, parts of me are out of frame, my hair is cropped out, my feet are cut off (I was taught you either have the feet in or not) and etc.
Some of these were explained by my agent and other friends as a "trend" for headshots. They say it's to "draw you to the eyes" or something like that. I feel kind of questioning of this because I taught myself a little about photography and filming, but I don't know...
Have any of you ever done photos like these for actors?
I guess you could say I'd like some feedback from other photographers on what they think or if anything looks wrong. I'm really unsure, I guess. I'd post other pics, but it seems they're too large to post, as well...

Oh, God, no. More like the exact opposite. I'm a pretty timid guy, always have been. I just want some advice from other photographers if the picture is decent.
>Illiterate
Well, I do have dyslexia...but, despite that, I write and read very well when I mean to. It slips when I'm tired, though, and I've not had the chance to sleep for the past two days. I also have to be good with words in order to do my job, that of which being voice over. I read VERY fast. I will give you this, though: I cannot read numbers for SHIT.
>>3082546
Yeah, I know I'm no fucking model, but my agent is fuckin' pushing me to do more on-camera work like commercials, film, and modeling. I prefer being behind the microphone, though. If it were up to me, I wouldn't have gotten headshots, but most people require that you do, and yes, that's even true for voice over. Basically, they're mandatory, and I don't know if how "good" they are.
If anyone can tell me if the picture is any good, I'll be on my way.
>>3082535
the crop is a bit too tight, and the retouching looks unnatural, a bit overly pink. the way they have your head framed with your arms makes your head look small. there's also more light on your arms than on your face, which draws the eye to the edges of the frame.
some of the basics are okay, but it could be a lot better as a headshot.
>>3082578
Thank you so much, man. I thought my head looked a bit off, but they assured me otherwise. Thank you so much.
OP, check Jan Scholz. He's my fav photographer and he shoots film on all formats.
