Would this be a good camera for general use for someone that knows nothing about photography? What's the difference between $300 vs $2000 cameras? Thanks in advance.

second, bridge cameras are shit. for starters this LOOKS like a dlsr, but that shit tier lens is fused to the body of that thing, meaning you cant change them. for $250, you could get a used T2i and a 50mm 1.8 for that.
Go put a Nikon Coolpix in your hand and take a few pictures in the store, then pick up the d3200 and make a few pictures with those and then ask yourself which camera you can see yourself working with
you can get the same zoom effect by just enlargening the picture on your phone or computer because at a certain point bridge cameras dont optically zoom anymore and just do it digitally with a huge loss in quality the same way it works with "zooming" on your phone
