Hi
I fell of a bike in forest and got badly bruised, lower backside of the ribcage. Went to the doctor, nothing is broken, but it hurts like hell. It hurts when there is a slightest tension on the muscle, when I touch it and when I sneeze or cough.
What are your experiences with injuries? How long do you take to recover? How can one make the recovering process easier?

Oh man OP, I'm sorry to hear that. Glad you saw the doc at least so you know your insides are ok. Hope you're feeling better soon!
As for me, I was playing in the woods with my brother when I was like 8 and her swung a branch at my face and it popped my eye out of the socket. I screamed in pain and he screamd in horror and I pushed it back in. My eye was scabby for days but I never even saw a doctor, my parents couldn't decide if they believed us or not.
Also noteworthy - when I was 12 or so I was building a tower in the woods and nailed-in supports as I got higher and higher. One day I was near the top and one of the supports I was standing on popped loose and I fell the whole way down the center and, miraculously, didn't hit any of the supports on the way down. Even more miraculously I didn't fall on any of the many fresh stumps I'd left underneath as I cut saplings down to make my tower. I didn't break anything, but I threw up all over myself and dragged myself home through the woods. No broken pelvis, but I had blunt trauma and the doc said if I develop a fever or the pain gets worse I should go straight to the ER.
Pics related.
P.S. you take care of yourself man!
Thankfully I've never been too badly injured, but when I was around 16 I was once descending a section of trail in the hills around the place I grew up in. I was a few hours out, alone and it was starting to get dark. I had stayed out too long but figured I could get home in time. It had been raining a lot recently, and a stone I stepped on slipped out from under me and I fell and twisted my ankle extremely badly underneath my full body weight. Within half an hour it was badly bruised. The sun went down and a thunderstorm came in. I didn't have a raincoat or a torch because I was a dumb kid and just expected to go wandering in the hills for a day. It was a bloody miserable experience limping home in the dark and rain, took me nearly twice as long. Healed up fine within a couple of days, but now I'm extremely careful with my footing.

that shit sux. fallen off my bike many of times too. I've broken my ribs twice, and didn't go to the Dr. the second time because there's not much they can do (basically "here's some ibuprofen, don't re-injure yourself, avoid strenuous activities the next few weeks"). It's possible they didn't get a good x-ray or just didn't see a break despite there being one. Just take it easy and heal up quick anon.
Wear yer fucking gear next time.
>be me, sledding with a bunch of noobs in the mountains years back
>stop for lunch at a restaurant
>helmets off
>jackets off
>I pull my armored vest off
>"What do you need that for lol?"
>got knee protection on too but that can stay where it is
>eat
>gear up to continue the ride
>about an hour later I smoked a buried rock at full throttle on a hillside
>bent the handlebars down about 2" with my chest
>knocked the wind out of me
>several of the noobs were watching the whole situation unfold from the trail
>snowmobileguide.exe has stopped working, abort/retry/fail
>catch my breath, get my sled unstuck'd, back down the hill to survey the damage
>"aaaand that's why I wear a vest..."
Lessons were learned that day.
Back then, less than half the people I rode with wore more protective gear than a helmet. Now, outside of the newer riders i'm teaching, almost all wear at least knee and chest protection too.
Not an option on the race track.
I've wrecked a lot on sled and moto; totalled two sleds. Destroy a helmet a year on average. A little bit of luck and a lot of protective gear, i've been fortunate to not get injured more than I do.
Try some arnica cream or tablets OP, they should help a bit.

good story.
I know about that handlebar maneuver- I broke the spider on the crankset of my bicycle. Never saw it coming. One second I was out of my saddle sprinting, the next I was on the ground trying to get my lungs unstuck together to get air in. I wish they made better chest protection for cyclists, not really a thing tho for anyoen but downhillers.
