I'm planning to spend my summer holiday in croatia and I want to do some longer hikes there. I've always been quite vulnerable to the sun, how do I protect my head from the sun without looking like a faggot?

Your pic is the absolute best you can get, but it also looks retarded.
Just get a cap or a nice looking hat.
>>676444
Wear sunscreen, drink enough, don't be a fatguy that starts panting at the slightest exertion. Croatia is not even very far south.
>>676444
By not dressing like you had a gift certificate to the safari store.
When you get to Croatia, look around at what kind of hats the locals are wearing and then buy one. Chances are it will be some kind of basic brimmed straw hat.
And it will likely be a lot cheaper than a technical fabric cranial anti-UV deflection system by Ex-Officio (TM).

If you are in the city, then you put on some sun screen and you suck it up. If you are outside, wear a regular boonie and a mesh scarf, they breath well and shields you from the sun. I have one from south Africa that works very well.
Baseball cap + 50 sunblock for your ears and back of neck.
Make sure you accessories it with some flip-flops, a lewd T-shirt, cheap beer and lots of shouting "yeah Bro, Croatian Vacation! Woooo!"

I have one of those hats like in you pic. I will never forget hearing a group of hikers behind me saying "that guys hat looks very hat like." What the fuck were they even talking about.
>>676545
Just wear whatever hat you feel comfortable in
>>676444
>without looking like a faggot
>caring about how you look while /out/
If the best sun protection was a flowered Easter bonnet, I'd wear it and not give a fuck
I have one like this
It saved me from getting roasted last summer when we were at 12,000ft and my gf brought 15 SPF sunscreen by mistake

>It saved me from getting roasted last summer when we were at 12,000ft and my gf brought 15 SPF sunscreen by mistake
Some guy I know did the exact same thing. Went on a hiking trip to mine some cristals with his wife and forgot to carry water, sunscreen or a hat. He the tried to mine with a pickaxe at noon and wondered that he blacked out not half an hour later. His wife the lost track of him and just wandered off, leaving him to be.

Make sure to wear a nice red wool coat and carry a Martin Henry rifle.
I have a skin problem in the face that gets worse with the sun so I avoid it like the plague. I did some research and you need to apply the right amount of the right suncreen for the right period of time. Be sure you buy the best option you can find where you live, apply a lot, wait 30 minutes before going to the sun and reapply every 2 hours. Reddit (yeah) has a lot of good information.

I don't feel 100% safe even with the best suncreen so I took and extra step and made a mask.

Using the information from skincancer org you gonna see that a specific clothing for the sun has a protection factor of 80 for example. Jeans has something around 1000 (go throught the skin cancer site and you'll find). Buy some jeans and make a mask. it'll be much cheaper and much more protective. Just remember to pain some flowers or animals on it so nobody thinks you're from isis.
Also I don't know your age but the secret to look good in your 30-40-50's is avoid sun in your 20's.
Tilley airflo hat. It's compressible in a suitcase, has great UV protection, and the mesh helps it be breathable.
Does it make you look like a faggot? A little. But less than most sun-protecting hats.

OP try something like this

Pith helmet? Really?
You're worried about standing out like a tourist and you want to wear a fucking Pith Helmet?
Jesus Fucking Christ.
Just go buy a basic brimmed sun hat. Nothing technical, nothing anachronistic, nothing /fa/, just a plain brimmed hat.

Why does he wear the mask?
Ausfag sun protection master here.
1. Stay out of the god dam sun. I'm a trail runner. I usually hit the trails at around 6am so I'm finished before 9-10am and avoid the worst of the sun.
2. Sunscreen. Don't read the gearfags who tell you to but the bestest and most expensive sunscreen. How you apply it is more important. I always take my shirt off to apply so I don't miss areas around my neck and upper arms. Reapply every 4 hours, less if you are swimming or sweating. Well applied SPF30 is infinitely better than SPF50 that has washed off,
3. Hats. My hat looks a bit like pic related, but a little bit more stylish.
4. Collar. Always handy to close the gap between hat and shirt.
5. Sunglasses. Polarised or don't bother.

Pith helmets are pretty much the best headwear for hot weather there is.
They will also get you lynched in a variety of countries and ridiculed in all others except vietnam.
I'd recommend a wide brimmed straw hat like the ones that gardeners and landscapers use, they're breathable and offer good protection and look ok. You could spend a bit more and get a collapsible cloth one like in the pic.

if you want more protection than a baseball hat just get a boonie, it's the most beach appropriate unless you plan to go full australian hat
