I'm putting together a small notebook of general survival tips, and long-term necessities. Essentially a homemade handbook on what to do when the SHTF. I've got basic stuff already in there, such as a basic lean-to, some knots and hitches, and a couple of snares.
Has this been done before?
If so, is there a copy of it that I could get my hands on(free preferred)?
Regardless of this, what are your must have's for info and basic gear for short and long term survival innawoods or in a SHTF scenario?
Sorry if this has been done before, and I'm new, and sorry if I'm wasting time.

This checklist is to test for the edibility of plants.
If you follow these steps, you almost don't need to know anything about plants to be able to gather edibles safely.

>>
>>369943
Do not do this. This triggers predatory chase instinct.
>>
>>369974
So what do instead?
>>
>>369974

Obviously. The graphic isn't saying "run from bears". The very first sentence tells you that NOT running is statistically the best option. Did you even read it? The running part is a last resort. And the advice about what to do to prevent encounters is sound.
>>
>>369971
>24hrs and 48mins later you can eat this shitty plant

it's easier to learn what edible plants will be where you are than to do this bullshit test
>>
>>369988

Learning and properly being able to identify plants with certainty takes time, whereas these steps can be learned in 60 seconds. Guess there's no advantage there.

Ever think you might be stranded in an unfamiliar/unstudied place? Maybe you just want to be cautious? Ohh no those aren't possibilities at all right?

So sorry for posting such a stupid usless method of survivalism.
>>
>>369993
I read the thing too.
My worry is that by the time you're in a survival situation and need to eat the local flora, you'll probably starve to death before you find out which plants you can eat using these methods.

I mean, eating strange plants seems like kind of a last resort thing to do, and if you're that desperate you might not have time to figure out what's edible, let alone what's capable of sustaining you.
>>
>>369995
Starving takes weeks. The method takes only days. Time problem solved.
>>
nice graphics

conservation of wood, its the same principle as a rocket stove mass heater. It theoretically provides better heat with less wood

this is a 75 gig torrent filled with how to books-mostly in pdf's, if you use a program like qbittorrent you can pick and chose which folders you want so you can avoid stuff like computers/explosives/forensics if you dont want those sections. This is truely a 1 stop shop for what you are asking about

>>
>>370427
whats in the 2 large folders, uploads and video files?
>>
>>370667
videos is just like every other folder only in video form, explosives, detail weapons strips, etc etc

uploads is a user submitted section not by the OP of the file, it is very poorly sorted, everything from how to learn french to more medical files good info still but you need to dig to find it
>>
>>366927
All of them are useless except overhand.

>>
>>370427

Great, so when SHTF we can reference this with our...?
>>
>>371016

LOL.

I'm pretty sure the point is that you learn this shit BEFORE SHTF.

Are you really going to travel into the woods with a folder full of notes about what to do without every having practiced it?

Have fun with that.
>>
>>371001
It wouldn't be very efficient, probably not even worth it unless you're in a desert and have a lot of piss and time.

The point of this thread is OP wants to make a survival handbook for when SHTF and wants handy reference information to include in it.

Think when you're packing to go for a month long hike, you're not going to try and fit a fucking backpack around your house. You want to fit the smallest and lightest things as efficiently as possible.

OP is trying to pack information into a handbook.

Giving him a fucking library is like kicking him in the dick.

i ran a virus scan after it finished downloading when i first got this, i got a couple false hits in the computer section b/c it does talk about hacking and even having a txt document with the same name as a virus throws up some flags
>>371175
there are different levels of shtf, assuming a emp didnt wipe every computer out i still think its handy. To assume the only kind of happening means camping is kind of naive

>>
>>371299

LOL. wow dude. I really can't tell if you're that fucking stupid or if it's just a really bad troll.

You telling me you long distance hike/camp without bringing some form of cooking pot and utensil? It's called a pocket rocket, get one.
>>
>>371175
>The point of this thread is OP wants to make a survival handbook for when SHTF and wants handy reference information to include in it

That statement right there is a problem. If you go into the woods with a bunch of paper without having practiced any of the techniques described, ur gonna have a bad time.
>>
>>371299

Are you dumb? Literally all you need to prepare the items in that graphic is water. Heat is preffered sure, but not necessary, a utensil is preffered, not necessary.

Pic related covers damn near everything you could think of, edible plants, tracks traps, knots yadda yadda.

Only problem for most people with this book though..
Is that it's in Swedish.
>>
>>372605
Is this basically the same book?
http://gonzoj.files.wordpress.com/2012/10/sas-survival-handbook-revised-edition.pdf
>>
>>372617
Aye, some illustrations are the same, but the english one is more filled out with writing whilst the swedish one is barebones-need-to-know stuff.
Imho, I'm prefering the latter in terms of learning.
>>
>>372627
Actually, on further examination. They're the same book. Although the swedish one is more boiled down.
So, I guess- Swap; Ă–verlevnadshandboken to SAS Survival Handbook
>>
>>372628
Good to know. It seems the author updates it every so often so maybe you just have a slightly older version.
