Watch far away.
Don't go too fast too soon.
Situational awareness.
Put your helmet and gloves on.

Basically don't be stupid and open your eyes.

An MSF course is still a good idea if you don't have any previous experience. But hey, your life, your money.

I want to get a shitty kinda of old but preferably before 1985 250cc dual sport that will hopefully run well enough to test drive but will also be cheap enough that it probably requires some lI got maintenance before any serious riding. how much should my budget be? would $500 be good for a bike alone, and what will I probably spend for everything else?

Take the MSF Basic Rider Course (or even the intro to motorcycles/scooter course). You get well paced, methodical instruction, on well maintained and well behaved beginner bikes that you don't have to pay for if you smash.

You want a dual sport so you can legally ride it on the road, but there aint no way you're getting one with a clean title for $500

I'm in rural MA but the best deals I've found for dual sports tend to be in the $1000-1500 range with clean titles that run well. Maybe $800-1000 if they have issues

Here's a running KLR650 with good title that's selling for $1300

I commute on a gsxr and it's pretty comf. Done a few small road trips too. After a while your ass starts to hurt, but a better seat would fix that.

Trust me you will be alot happier not having loan payments hanging over your head every month.
>>
>>17797304
They're more expensive than a used gsxr.

Also not sure I need that much power but idk.

Basically I feel like I can get a better deal on a used 750, and put the rest of the money to use on other stuff

>>17797345
I did a 4 day road trip of like 1400 ish miles on my SV. Not great but not as bad as you'd think.

Good to hear though, I live in az and it never snows so it isn't that bad to ride year long. The heat sucks but its livable
>>
>>17797361
I ride my year round in all weather and haven't had any issues yet. The fan kicks on sitting in traffic in the summer, but it doesn't overheat or anything. It's all around a pretty solid bike.

>>
>>17797733
They're a compromise. The knobbies, larger wheels and more compliment suspension will negatively impact road performance.
>>
>>17797748
No such thing as a bike that's great at on and off road. Everything you do to a bike to make it better on road makes it worse on road, and vice versa.

Just a sliding scale. They can cruise down logging roads and stuff (but almost every bike can) but I would never take one on actual rough terrain.

The "himalayan" is a disaster, but I don't think it's sold anywhere but India. The Bullet is like a kit for a vintage Brit single. Once all the build issues are shaken out you have a nice brand-new early fifties British single.

If that's what you want, check out some brand specific board. This is the sort of thing where you will either want it or not, and it's won't matter if it's any good or not. Because if you want good you want a jap bike.

You already know what the answer is.
>>
>>17798589
They're all pretty much the same. Just find the one that feels right for you, go to dealers and say you tested a (random brand literbike) and it just didn't quite feel right but the power has you hooked. Test ride a bunch and pick your favorite. There isn't a whole lot of difference between the models as far as performance goes so just find what you like the most.
>>
>>17798589
If you want the best

Why is it so hard to buy an R1? I want to give people money.
>>
>>17797935
It does in some cases, but you want something that's rideable unless you're a mechanic. At some point bikes become old enough where you only need a bill of sale to register it in most states so maybe look into that if you want a good deal on a title-less shitbike

Test rode a CB400 today. I'm pretty much in love, definitely going to buy one. I get what people say about it having no personality, but it seems perfect for me since I'm a learner.
The only thing I noticed about the one I rode was the clutch seemed a bit stiff. He seemed happy for me to take it to a mechanic before I buy, but how much would that cost?
Also, it has rego until January next year but no RWC. He said he'd get a RWC for it before I buy, but does he have to? I'd rather save as much money as I can.

if you sell with registration the seller needs to include the roadworthy
in fact advertising a vehicle for sale with rego and no roadworthy is illegal if i remember right. it takes about 10 minutes to get it done

i wouldn't worry about the clutch, it is easy to lube it yourself or replace the cable, or maybe you just need to get used to it being your first bike and all (i didnt think the cb400 had a heavy clutch but it might have stronger springs installed)

if you're talking about the super four they are good bikes. i don't have experience with the older cb400 though

Dear /dbt/, I hate maintaining my chain. Also I am fed up with tinkering with carbs.
What bikes have fuel injection, a single sided swingarm, or shaft drive, and are cheaply available used? Preferably Japanese. I don't want that pemium. Newer, 500-750ccs.
Also no Honda vfrs. I tested one and I don't like vtec.
>>
>>17799529
Wanting it to be Japanese, EFI, and a SSSA pretty much limits it to the VFR alone unless you get an old bike.

>>
>>17799557
It's just a shot of lube every 1000km or so, takes 5-10 minutes max to clean and spray.

I did this a few years ago. Don't do it. Motorcycles are fickle and a tiny lapse in judgement or attention can cause lots of shit to potentially break and make it unrideable.

How would you do shopping? Pick up friends? How could you have sex in a parking lot? Also some days you just don't want to ride in the rain.

Use the bike most days and keep the car for doing car shit.
>>
>>17798268
The same thing happened to my VFR, a PREMIUM motorcycle.

Steering stem rusted despite being capped. Exhaust headers rusted. Subframe rusted.

I think this shit happens to all bikes, but it's just jap bikes get left outside more often. Most ducati riders, for example, put on 500 miles a year and keep their bikes in climate controlled storage pods.

Jap bike riders don't even care about using OEM parts for repairs and crash damage, and if they do get OEM they order through babbits instead of a dealer.

That's not how that works, unless you're doing 100+ they've got better things to worry about.

That's me, I got over her and now I want the Zealous Ant.
The MAJESTIC Porpoise seems a little impractical. Too small back seat, no proper luggage options.

God Aprilias new paintjobs are terrible. Glad I have a 2015. That shit looks worse than mid 90's sportbikes.

Wish they went and made their april fools edition tho..

Holy shit Anon, I might owe you a beer. That '14 had an ugly paint job, but fits every other criteria plus what looks like Yoshi pipes. I'm gonna try and check that out this weekend.

Also, what's the difference between the R1 and the R1S?

I ended up buying a Ducati because all of the Yamaha dealers in the area total cucks when it comes to Test-Rides.

>nearly 30
>insured out the ass because I make a lot of money
>credit Score in the 800s
>want an FZ-07
>go to first yamaha+everything dealership
>'we don't do test rides or demos'
>get a quote
>it's full msrp unless you finance through them at 12% for my cs....
>go to a yamaha+kawi dealer i usually buy parts from
>'we don't do test rides other than in our (large) parking lot'
>go out of state to a purely yamaha dealer
>'we don't do test rides either, come to our demo days (of which there are none till next year)'
>contact Yamaha Corporate about this shit
>go to a BMW-Triumph-Ducati-MV-Guzzi Dealer
>test ride literally anything and everything all day
>settle on my fashion accessory scrambler
>no bullshit with them when I go through my bank to finance for 1%
