Take the MSF Basic Rider Course (or even the intro to motorcycles/scooter course). You get well paced, methodical instruction, on well maintained and well behaved beginner bikes that you don't have to pay for if you smash.

I'm in rural MA but the best deals I've found for dual sports tend to be in the $1000-1500 range with clean titles that run well. Maybe $800-1000 if they have issues

I ride my year round in all weather and haven't had any issues yet. The fan kicks on sitting in traffic in the summer, but it doesn't overheat or anything. It's all around a pretty solid bike.

Just find the one that feels right for you, go to dealers and say you tested a (random brand literbike) and it just didn't quite feel right but the power has you hooked. Test ride a bunch and pick your favorite. There isn't a whole lot of difference between the models as far as performance goes so just find what you like the most.

Test rode a CB400 today. I'm pretty much in love, definitely going to buy one. I get what people say about it having no personality, but it seems perfect for me since I'm a learner.
The only thing I noticed about the one I rode was the clutch seemed a bit stiff. He seemed happy for me to take it to a mechanic before I buy, but how much would that cost?
Also, it has rego until January next year but no RWC. He said he'd get a RWC for it before I buy, but does he have to? I'd rather save as much money as I can.

i wouldn't worry about the clutch, it is easy to lube it yourself or replace the cable, or maybe you just need to get used to it being your first bike and all (i didnt think the cb400 had a heavy clutch but it might have stronger springs installed)

if you're talking about the super four they are good bikes. i don't have experience with the older cb400 though

What bikes have fuel injection, a single sided swingarm, or shaft drive, and are cheaply available used? Preferably Japanese. I don't want that pemium. Newer, 500-750ccs.
