Race bikes can be comfy anon. You have to use your muscle just to sit on one, but some bikes come with a good bar angle, not too much drop, and softer/wider/more properly sloped seats than others.

UKfag here, here's my current ride. Also looking to get a crappy supermoto to abuse...

They're less comfy than any other bike.. Don't get a race bike if you care about comfort.

For what it's worth, it's supposed to be 'comfy' compared to other superbikes.

Which stubby wrench should I keep on my keychain, most prominent bolt size, or adjustable?

Sore asses lose races.

I have to get fork seals and maybe a steering stem bearing done on my 1999 SV650 so autism got the better of me while I was at work and I called 23 shops in a hour radius (NYC Metro Area) for a simple job.

>Most shops catered towards cruisers or stupid hipsters with money, the shops in the Yes column I'd trust for basic repair work, the ones in No either overcharged, gave a general aura of incompetence, or would cut corners.
>Only 8 shops knew what cartridge emulators were
>3 shops told me the bike was "too old" and refused to work on it
>The shops with * have motorsport/racebike experience, three of those shops I'd consider suspension specialists (Washington, Mach, CyclePro)

I'm going to Mach tomorrow as they said they'd run the inner tubes through a lathe to polish them, use NOK seals, and set sag/preload on the bike. They also gave a great explanation as to why the bike's forks were pogoing (ran low on oil, below emulators). Their initial price seems along the average ($350 for forks alone) so I'm happy.

Ehh. The lube is the only real thing doing the work there, the WD isn't gonna do anything beyond what it says on the tin: displace water. Which may or may not displace itself onto a slightly different part of the chain, which still lets shit rot.

Not entirely sure yet.
Probably not running, but they didn't specify.
Gonna look at tomorrow.
>>
>>17775639
I never do it downshifting, upshifting I'll do it if I'm accelerating at a decent pace, like shifting in the upper half of the revs
>>
>>17775649
Either way, as long as it's not a literal pile of shit it's hard to beat a bike for $300, especially if you're mechanically proficient enough to take care of whatever may be wrong. Just depends how much time and money you'd be willing to devote towards a cruiser. Is it just that you want something cheap to fuck around with, or what?
>>
>>17775651
ah, so like when you're entering a high speed limit?
also why not when downshifting? I'm guessing because revmatching is extremely difficult without using the clutch

The pictures are kinda shitty so it's hard to tell exactly the condition it's in, but seems worth it.

When I had my bike, I rode year-round. I live in KY and we get a lot of ice storms. I just put on some heavy ass winter jacket and snow pants and scarf, I put pocket warmers in my gloves and I feel pretty comfy when I ride. Only time I don't ride is when there's ice on the roads.
>>
>>17775739
Ah okay, that would've been my next question is if people used moto-oriented purpose-made gear/clothes and the like or if most just used a heavy winter coat/layers.

I'd love to try just riding the bike all the time for at least commuting and minor trips, though even if I get all the right gear I don't feel too great about leaving it out even under a cover during the winter since I don't have a garage where I live right now
>>
>>17775751
I don't even really wear gear unless I'm going on the fast roads. I just wear my big ass coat. Half the time I don't even want to go above 50 because the wind absolutely bites the shit out of anything exposed. My helmet is pretty comfy though.
>>

300s are pointless, only useful for commuting streets, have absolutely no power to overtake on the freeway when cars are going 80+mph.

I ride year-round in Massachusetts. Only time I refuse to ride is when there is snow sticking to the pavement. Other than that, it's all about gear. Good raingear and good winter layering (and heated grips) are key.

I got it for only £315 too. has all the touring farkles you could ever want, and half the price of shoei/arai/schuberth.

I think I got lucky though, it was the last one on the shelf and they just wanted to clear it off.

>get a 1200cc v twin engine
>torquey but it doesn't have that excitement of an equally sized 4 cylinder
>>
>>17777385
Its funny you mention that... I've just got an RSV4 to replace my totalled 1198SP and I feel a bit opposite.
I miss the torque of the Duc, and its willingness to stand it up whenever, wherever in any gear. I'm not used to higher strung engines. I feel like the front wheel of the Ape is nailed to the floor.
That said, the Ape is a far better streetbike than the Duc ever was.. and I won't be trading back. Gettin' too old for wheelies anyway.

Well not really. It'll just take time to sort out.
>>
>>17777397
I've got an R1200R and the torque is amazing but I'm still trying to figure out which gears are best and when.

The boxer engine just seems to do nothing if its in 2 high a gear but it feels kind of anaemic if I keep it in a low gear. But when its in the sweet spot it pulls like mad.
>>
>>17777405
Oh man those BMW twins are great! My brother had an R1200 *something* that was half faired and had the weird monocle headlight.
Its been a while since I have ridden one tho.. does it kinda chug and surge if you are in too high a gear or just feel anemic?

Those bmw twins sound AMAZING with a set of pipes btw. Like an old biplane.
>>
How's the Aprilia Shiver 750?
>>
>>17777434
not as cool as the dorsoduro
>>
>>17777429
sounds like he had an RS.

it chugs and shakes like mad when the revs are too low.

When the revs are high it just feels and sounds kinda meh, but as I said, when its in the sweet spot the torque is just nuts and it feels good.

Definitely a marmite sort of engine, but I'm alright with it.

The nice thing is that fuel consumption is barely affected, you can keep it in gear 3 or 4 in the twisties and it will return the same mpg as gear 6 on the highway.
