Hipsters like to make out their bikes are older then they actually are.

They like to call their bikes vintage bikes even though they were just made in the 80's.

I think they secretly hate when people ask how old their bikes are and they gave to say "1986" or whatever.

The R65 is the kind of bike you get from your dad as a starter bike.

2, first was the first time I ever rode on pavement in the rain, grabbed too much front brake in a corner pulling up to a stop light and slid out. Little bit of road rash and pulled muscle in my left leg because I was wearing shorts, I was only going about 10 mph.

Second was last October I hit a guardrail on the outside of a hairpin because I was an idiot riding on tires down to the cords, footpeg stabbed me in the calf, 22 stitches and two weeks on crutches.

Just some random link from google

you can find plenty more, and the bottomline is: women are about as good drivers as man, but women get into stupid accidents more (like hitting other car on a parking lot), while man tend to drive more aggressively and get into more high speed accidents.

Went home late one night, in the rain.
Didn't see tram rails in the road, got stuck in them.
I was in them for a few seconds, bracing for what I knew would happen eventually.
Went down at about 70kph but it was basically like a slip'n'slide so there was barely any damage to anything.
Mirror broke off and my crashbars took a hit (thank god for those)

Women are good drivers in the sense that they are good at following rules. They are very good at following rules and shaming people into following their lead.

They aren't renowned for being good at sliding an MR2 around a wet corner at 90mph. Men only crash more because they push their own limits, while women try very, very hard to never approach them (and still do because they seem to have this limit on the amount of time they can go without checking their makeup so long as speeds are below 10mph)

be wary of false equivalences, anon

GP was talking about auto insurers' data on the differences between male and female auto drivers on public streets (and even if you don't believe it, keep in mind that the insurers believe it and put their money where their mouth is or men wouldn't have higher premiums than women).

You are citing the relative performance of male and female MX bikers on closed circuit races - i.e., a different vehicle entirely and a different environment entirely.

good/bad performance on one is not necessarily an indicator of good/bad performance on the other, especially when "performance" is defined as "costs the insurer less money" for one and "wins more prizes" for the other. Though, anecdotally, it seems to me that the problems displayed in the MX video fall right in line with the expectation of both groups - i.e., it shows women riding too cautiously. This results in less high speed accidents, more stupid-looking low speed accidents, and bad race performance. I bet none of those bikes in the video were as badly damaged as they would have been in a crash in a men's race.

tl;dr: define what you're talking about better before generalizing faget

No, dum dum started out by just saying women are just as good as men simpliciter. He tacked on the 'oh, just on the road, not racing' bit after the lulzy video of the mx riders.

Crash data is a given, but on the question of actual ability, there's no equivalence. Men are better at driving cars and riding motorcycles, for what that is worth (not sure women, on average, really care about losing that competition).

More like the women are to physically weak to manipulate the motorcycles properly.

Also women are involved in far more distracted driver fender benders. Men just just in bigger, badder smashes. What costs more a $1000 bumper? Or a total write off and a dead driver? Women are worse drivers.

Yes, few incidents make men better drivers. More incidents cause by driver error would seem to point to women being worse drivers overall. Insurance is a business, they price rates according to who will cost them more money not who is a better driver.
>>
>>17738380
women are "better" in these statistics because they drive less miles compared to men. And from personal experience, women are definitely the worse drivers especially in cities, because they are far too cautious and can't do low speed manoeuvres well

I think the culture is just more permissive. When I did a euro tour the French were nazis about speeding, the germans too (except on the autobahn). Copped a lot of tickets in the northern countries but got cut up bike a cop bike in italy mid corner who was just running hot laps.

Modern Harley crowds are posers. I don't hang out with them and have two Shovels, two Evo FXRs, and an Ironhead Sporty. You don't have to have company from idiots if you don't tolerate their presence.

Modern Norton Commando crowds are changing from old mechanics to mere operators with too much money. IDGAF, I hang out with mechanics, machinists and other cool superior beings. If you aren't a mechanic you are just a passenger.

Hondas don't have a crowd since they are so varied. IDGAF, I don't need any support or parts the internet doesn't provide.

Busas are nice machines. If I want one I'll buy one but I won't hang around niggers or let them know where I live because theft. So easy...

Neither are good from a modern performance standpoint, but the CX engines last forfuckingever with minimal maintenance. CBs are a bit of a pig while CX are light and flickable.

Cafe bikes and choppers are both folk art. Their original purpose (light, stripped of excess for when excess affected performance) is ancient history. Just pick something reliable you like.

CB single cammers are now pretty collectible so I wouln't chop or cafe a clean one. CX are cheap, ugly when new hence fine for playing with.

Lesser methods may fail inconveniently.

Those are better, but the bare version with heat shrink applied over it is best. Those heavy sleeved connectors are bulky and don't seal out moisture due to open ends. You can cover those with heat shrink tubing or liquid electrical tape from any auto store.

Sup /dbt/. I got someone who's interested in my bike, and I'm looking to upgrade.

Current bike is 2008 Yamaha FZ-6. It had a clutch and engine issue from previous owner, so I had an engine replaced a few months ago putting it at 14k+ miles for $1.5k. I bought it a year ago with 48k for $3k. High beams don't work, but I think that's a quick fix. I'd like to at least make my initial money back on it, but the interested party is a friend and I don't wanna overprice. Is $4.5-$5k too much?

As for upgrade, I'm looking for an R1. What years are the best for used and what's a reasonable price? I found a couple ' in my area for $5.8k < 20k miles.

He doesn't even appear to going fast and is barely leaned over at all. I think it's just one of millions upon millions of examples of Amerisharts can't turn. They can shart in a mart without any problems whatsoever but put a mild curve in their way and they crash.

I shiggy my diggy lad. That's a middleweight and you know it.

I've never heard of that model before. Antifa? I've never even heard of the Brownshirt factory. Where is that?
>>
>>17739783
All I can say is unless you sell the bike for around 3.5k you are kind of ripping him off.
I can find fz6's of your vintage for around 4500 with 1700 miles.
The problem is once you dropped your new engine in you lost that money.
I wouldn't try to sell it to this friend for more than 4k.
The only way you would make your money back is if you didn't ride it, or your bike's value went up proportionally with the new engine.
>>
>>17739963
I think centre Milan, Italy
Or was that blackshirt?
>>
>>17739973
That's kind of what I was expecting. I'll start with $3.5 and if he haggles to $3 I'll take it. When I bought the engine it was either $1.5k now or nobike. Ohwell.
>>
>>17739864
why is it that people (on this board) love Africa Twin so much?
>>
Cruiser and 250 riders are basically nobikes

I'd have backed way the fuck off after that.
Harley looked like it was gonna high side the rider and become a really big speedbump for the other guy.

oh shit i just rode down to Enumclaw and up through Tacoma back to Seattle on this rental last weekend lol, trip was nice
>>
>>17739932
Dunno about that. Slow speed drops by touching the front brake whilst turning, too much hectic lean and losing traction, braking too harshly and locking the front, hitting wet paint/gravel/oil etc. and low siding. Blind cager taking you out. All seem to be common themes in crash compilations. Yeah, target fixation does seem to play a large role but it's usually AFTER they've fucked up. i.e not leaned enough, running wide, target fixate which inevtiably leads to eating dirt. So I dunno if target fixation is the cause, it's a panic response to the initial fuck up and instead of taking correcting actions (leaning more) it exacerbates the situation. Crash.

Speaking of my own bike, I'm starting to scrape away the footpeg mounting bolts.
Should I be concerned? How much steel is required to hold a peg on?

(The left is even worse than pictured right.)
>>
>>17740055
Yo, probably not that far off.

ADV bikes generally don't really interest me, but the Africa Twin does give me a half chub.
>>
>>17740028
It's reasonably priced, not butt ugly, and can turn some of the electronics off.
I think it's semi-ugly, and I don't have a hard on for that style of bike.
I am still happy they made it.
>>
>>17739284
I believe the panigale is the same weight, with 10-15 more horsepower. Honda a shit.
>>
>>17740058
but Harley made it heh so better than a nobike
>>
>>17740075
Are you saying on the passenger footpegs? If you are talking about the rider footpeg mounting bolts we need a non shitty picture.
As lone as the nut/whatever is there has full contact you should be fine. Just check it periodically.
If you are really worried about a bolt hit it with locktite.
>>
>>17740019
How can you handle going that slow for 8 hours
>>
>>17740022
>rider puts in that much effort
>still slow as fuck
A 9 year old on a YZ85 sumo would have passed him in the first corner.
>>
>>17740074
I mean, most of those are probably people who think they've gone in to hot even though they'd be fine if they didn't hit the brakes, stand the bike up and look at the ditch.

I suppose it doesn't really matter if you're actually too fast for the corner or if you just think you are.

People need to watch ToTW and think about it constantly.

How much more does a Panigale cost? Does it have the same crazy lifespan the Fireblade's engine has?
Ducati a shit, for people trying to impress their rich friends.
Honda for people trying to ride a bike.
>>
>>17740137
$3k, that's Panigale S vs Fireblade SP, and I wouldn't know, this is comparing 2017 models. But if you're going with the "unreliable Italian bikes" meme you don't know enough about bikes to be buying either, so it's not like it matters.
>>
>>17740158
Not the other anon, but aren't the service intervals much much closer for the duc than the honda?

For that reason alone I might go with the CBR.
>>
>>17740137
No, Ducati makes a fine motorcycle. They are not as expensive as you think. Yamaha R1M is more expensive than most.
I've owned a few Ducs in addition to many other bikes. Never had a mechanical problem aside from a $15 voltage regulater on a 916. They are not shit, they are not unreliable.
They *do* put out a shitload of heat. The superbikes are like straddling a bbq. Their clutches are abnormally heavy. But they are not shit bikes.

Nothing wrong with Honda, but they *used* to make more interesting fare. I miss the days of the VTR1000, RC45, RC51... all of which I owned and loved.
And the RC45 was more expensive than any Ducati I've owned. And Honda also currently sells the most expensive sportbike of all fucking time, so... you really want to impress your rich friends you buy that Honda moto gp derived streetbike.

Or..or we can just not irrationally hate on bikes based on brand, because thats what moronic children do.
>>
>>17740105
Tight corners. Occasional forest service road.
And I frequently top out for miles on end.
>>
>>17739203
Hayabusa. I tried all the 2017 superbikes at a show, and it was the only one I could stand to sit on for more than a second.
>>
>>17740167
>Not the other anon, but aren't the service intervals much much closer for the duc than the honda?

Duc service intervals are a lot longer than they used to be. HOWEVER, the Panigale needs to be completely disassembled to do damn near any service since it has no frame really. Expect to pay a good bit more in shop hours because of the frameless shit.
>>
>>17739235
Planning to solder and then electrical tape it together. Don't have a heatgun handy.

In the meantime, since I can't find any solder, I'm gonna twist them together and use tape, maybe with a twist or two of stiff wire to ensure a connection.
