Wait a second, the slide is supposed to close all the way? Completely? It didn't do it, there was an almost deliberate cutout in the slide, it left a pretty large opening! How big should there opening for air be when the throttle is fully closed?

Thanks for your support, by the way.

Serious question, /dbt/, why are most of these idiots attracted to Suzuki of all brands?
Is it because they are cheap? Because you can buy one without a down payment?

I don't get it.

I could enjoy the brand despite it's shortcomings but this just kills it for me.

You stop paying for protection and start paying for style, comfort, and seasonality past $200-$300 but the Sand 3 gives you the best value with those more luxurious factors in mind. Not too tight is the appropriate torque.

Tighten with wrench to approximately it's not going to fall off.

there will be a specific torque spec for it. If you don't have a torque wrench and manual you can probably just estimate it by hand. They usually don't need to go that tight, just like 15 ft-lb.

I invested in a K&N and must say, that the engine and air intake sound got manlier. But you won't profit from better airflow if you don't have an empty exhaust. If the price is right, take the K&N, the sound is really a little bit better, but the stock one does the same job
>>
>>17680433
K&Ns are good, just don't fall for the meme tax if they're way more expensive, they're not that good. And just get it nice and snug with your hand, don't use a wrench. Also don't double O-ring it.

K&N is fine, so is HiFlow.

If you are not used to working on your bike, get a small 1/4 inch drive torque wrench from Harbor Frieght and use it. the $20 you spend on it can save you $100 when you have to pay a professional to instal a timecert in your case cause you stripped it.

Looking to get my first helmet, but I'm not sure what brand to go with. I have a KLR 250 which I plan to do 50/50 on road off road.
A lot of people are suggesting the Arai XD4 or Shoei hornet, but they go for about $800AUD which is too much for me. What can you guys suggest in the ~$400 AUD range?

I'd like to stay safe, but if the helmet is almost worth a grand I feel like I'd baby it too much.

Is idle speed (not mixture) throttle stop screw supposed to move the throttle position when you adjust it?
When I turn it, the lever to which cables are connected does not move at all. There's also a screw looking thing that acts as a stop, it does not turn either. Or does it adjust something else?
>>
>>17680708
Get something in the 300 or less aud. My first helmet was 150 usd on sale and it has done the job fine. I run an icon airmada, not really what you are looking for.
If you have any local shops, try the helmet on. That way you can see/figure out what brands fit your head.
Also after use my helmet's fit got looser. So keep that in mind.

How the fuck you figure you'd baby a helmet. Its on your head, the only time you could damage it is when its doing its job to save your life. Unless you have a habit of dropping shit, which you shouldn't do to a helmet regardless of cost.
AGV-AX8 is in that style your looking at and a little cheaper, but you could just use a dirt helmet that's got an ECE22 sticker showing its been tested for road use.

>>
>>17680867
yes. you should be able to see the low end throttle stop moving slightly.

Also check that your throttle cables aren't too tight. If your cables aren't returning all the way then they will hold the throttle open causing high idle.
>>
>>17680874
If your bicycle pump has a shrader connector, then yes you can use it.
I use a mountain bike pump to air up my tires. It has a large volume of air that it pumps and goes up to 60psi.

The oil on my bike gets hot af and expands, and in turn gets frothy because of the moving parts of the engine hitting the reservoir. I don't overfill it, it just runs really hot. How do I fix this? I don't think it's coolant mixing with oil, either.

Motorcycles in general are like giving an AW11 or porsche to a teenager. They all have the same dangerous and difficult handling characteristics. And you'll probably crash at least once. Features like ABS and traction control (or poor man's tractuon control - rider mdoes) are far more important for a beginner than whether or not the bike is slow. Fast bikes only go as fast as you can twist the throttle and people really overestimate how hard you have to twist it to go fast. The dyno graphic at WOT doesn't tell you how the throttle cam goes. I didn't actually discover 100% throttle on my CBR600 for a few months, because I wasnt' trying to find it.

Buy a nice used modern bike with modern features. Something you wouldn't mind dropping once, but also something you would be proud of and happy to fix, maintain, and show up to parties on. Also don't be afraid of financing because unless you go the insurance claim route (insta-total), crash damage on bikes, especially nakeds, is usually pretty minor and consists of a bunch of five minute bolt off-bolt on fixed and $50 parts.

Get yourself a newer shiver 750 or something. But used. Mileage is good on motorcycles because they have more initial in-warranty failures than italian sportscars.

>>
>>17682294
It won't drop more than 2 inches and even if it says you will be on your tip toes, you will be able to put one foot down flat at least. If you can't hold the bike on one leg you should really try to improve your leg strength
>>
>>17682175
It does, how is it? Thats pretty tall what kinda bike?

Fine, you only need to be able to put one foot down with it but i can still get both toes on the ground due to the suspension sag.

Looks like it was running hot and burning oil
Likely lean
>>
>>17682424
Do you even have an air filter on that fucking thing.
>>
>>17682430
Edge of the piston where the scuff is still has a sharp corner. It was either dirt ingestion ( and a LOT of it ) or no oil killed the skirt and that got the top of the piston.
>>
>>17682459
Im gonna say burned oil to the point it was starved.
Theres (alot of) carbon between rings and on the dome
>>
>>17682430
I've had trouble figuring if it was lean or rich. It has lean characteristics sometimes but the plugs are always sooty. Maybe leftover from previous owner when it may have been richer?

>>17682459
>>17682440
Yes, I don't know where dirt would have gotten it unless from the previous owner. Maybe there wasn't a perfect seal on the branch tube from the filter to the carb? I've only ever ridden it on dirt roads a few times, I don't think it could have injested that much.
Do I need a new piston?

>>

Looks like the rings got wrecked and caused oil burning

Yes you will need a piston

Fuck. I just ordered two sets of piston rings last night. Waste of $60 since I might as well replace both pistons and they come with rings

I'm almost out of comfy riding season and my choices are to buy a piston from a US dealer for $160 apiece, or buy a set of two for $130 shipped from Russia and wait a month.
