My engine doesn't feel like it's making all the power it should until I redline it a few times. Once I do, it feels great, but before that, it feels sluggish, and it even seems to shake more, especially noticeably under load at low rpms.
Once I let it "breathe" it completely smooths out and pulls much harder.
I don't really know how to describe it. Could my injectors be clogged or something?

It's an M20B25
>>
>>17637180
I'm not a fan of camber but the paint on your car always looks good.

What is your procedure for detailing? Is clay bar worth using?

I never understood why people use the ''try hard'' as a pejorative.
>>
>>17637243
Hmm, well let's try some cheap solutions first

Put a bottle of techron in your tank, that is great stuff. My car is much newer and I use it every 3k miles minimum. If it helps then try a second bottle it should clean it up completely.

You could also try some rislone in the crank though it's probably not necessary
>>
>>17637179
Just face it, they are shit boxes and that's why there's no general for them. Humor me, why exactly do you think im so assravaged about beamers? Is it because you think I can't afford one or something? Any high school stock boy with minimum wage living with mum can afford one.

My car has 2 degrees of camber lol you probably just think it has more since the wheels really fill out the gap

I detailed it once when I got it last year, just washing it normally since. Yes claying can be worth it.
>>

Try harder tryboy
>>
>>17637259
>why exactly do you think im so assravaged about beamers

Because you take time out of your day to bitch about them on the internet? I don't like chevy, I don't like most nissans or toyotas. Do you think I spend my day going into chevy/nissan/toyota threads and crying about them? No, because I'm not assravaged or autistic enough. I understand that some people like cars that I don't like and it is a waste of time and energy to bitch about it. You like bimmers? Cool. You don't like bimmers? Okay, fuck off
>>
>>17637255
Thanks, I'll try both of those and see if it gets any better.
Unrelated, I was also thinking about putting some blue devil in it since it has some small oil leaks, but nothing that seems like it's worth tearing down the engine for. I've heard a lot of people recommend it.
>>
>>17637259
>they are shit boxes and that's why there's no general for them
then why do honda and toyota get generals
>>
>>17637274
>My car has 2 degrees of camber lol you probably just think it has more since the wheels really fill out the gap
No I agree it is very minor camber, it's not like those hellaflush tards that are riding on the edge of the tires so it's fine actually. The wheels do line up with the fender nicely though I'll say that.

I would like to lower mine too but I want to get coilovers first.

>Yes claying can be worth it.
I've heard it can leave swirls and shit on black paint though that's why I'm hesitant.

Dude washing your car can leave swirls, it's black! Worst color to deal with, but if you get it right, it looks 10/10

If you don't have the slightest clue about detailing you're better off paying someone rather than rubbing mysterious shit and pouring chemicals onto the paint.

Practice on something shitty/worthless enough you wouldn't care about your first go.
>>
>>17637311
Lots of people on /o/ have bmws but okay

Yeah you're right it's better to experiment on something I don't care about, definitely don't want to mess around with that black paint

I would pay a professional but it's like $150, is it worth it?

It's just a first trial type thing, I just ripped off the /tg/ and /hg/ ones. I think that a picture from the front would be a good guideline, like mine and GS400goy's, I had a hard time making the E60 picture into a square without clipping off the sides, so if you have a better picture, post up and I'll add it to the collage.

Others are welcome, I'm not really sure how I'll add in numbers between the ones we already have, but I'll do that when we get there. I'm not going to be autistic like /tg/ and require proof unless it's something that I doubt anyone on /o/ has. I'll put dates in like /tg/ though.
Any suggestions?

The former sounds nice, here in the states most of the money spent on our cars is from insurance unless you're a 40 yr old woman with a flawless record.

What do you do? I've heard a lot of people there are into software engineering. Cold summers sound bad, I thought maybe it's like Russia there where it gets hot in the summer.

I need help /o/. Never owned a bimmer before, so I decided to get a E46 M3 in a few months. I want to know about the car before I go through with it.

1) S54 engine is supposed to be reliable. Is this true and what are some problems I could have with it?
2) What is the SMG transmission like and why are there so many convertibles on the market with it?
3) Is it better to get a low mileage convertable or a higher mileage coupe? I don't plan to track my car but use it as a daily driver and for occasional hooning.
4) Are there any problems with the car that are not engine related that are common?
5) Are there other models similar to this that might be worth looking at?
6) Would an E46 M3 be a good DD if I don't have deep pockets? I plan on learning how to do some of the basic shit myself.
>>
>>17639717
>S54 engine is supposed to be reliable.
Not really. S54 is from BMW's "going downhill" era. They're currently in the valley.
The S54 will give you vanos problems and if you aren't lucky main bearing problems

>2) What is the SMG transmission like and why are there so many convertibles on the market with it?
It's a semi-automatic transmission, single clutch manually shiftable or "Drive" mode. Convertible M3s are shit and are bought by the type of people who can't drive with a manual transmission, hence the large number of them with SMGs.

>3) Is it better to get a low mileage convertable or a higher mileage coupe? I don't plan to track my car but use it as a daily driver and for occasional hooning.
Always go for the lowest mileage and best maintained car you can find. Convertibles are a matter of personal taste but IMO convertible M3s are shit.

>4) Are there any problems with the car that are not engine related that are common?
The rear unibody cracks where the subframe attaches.

>5) Are there other models similar to this that might be worth looking at?
If you can't afford a decent M3 with lowish mileage and good maintenance records try to find a 330ci ZHP with lowish mileage and good maintenance records. Do NOT buy a cheap M3.

>6) Would an E46 M3 be a good DD if I don't have deep pockets?
No

>I plan on learning how to do some of the basic shit myself.
Not a good car for that. They're a pain to work on and there are plenty of things that will be well beyond your capabilities.

Do you guys think either of these cars are worth looking more into and test driving? They're both like 2 hours from me so I'd really have to think it would be a good purchase. They're priced a bit high but I'd talk to them about that before going down.
Anything horribly wrong with them? Really want a convertible for some reason
>>
>>17639873
Price is a bit high on the 328i, they're both good reliable cars though depends what you want, they're both worth trying honestly but if you want a convertible def go with the 135i

>>17639717
>I plan on learning how to do some of the basic shit myself.
>subframe cracking
>double vanos
>six (6) throttle bodies
rip
>>
Beamers are fucking shit
>>
>>17639717
1. S54 is a reliable engine when maintained you will have take it to a shop if vanos fails and also the valves need to be adjusted every 30k miles or so since they're not hydraulic lifters
2. Smg is their sequential transmission, it still has a clutch but a pump controls it to change gears and it drives just like a manual car it can roll backwards on hills also people complain it's not very smooth can be jerky if you don't know how to control it and M3 CSL was the fastest using it
3. The coupe actually performs better than the convertible also coupes look better than the verts but that's just my opinion if you don't care about that the vert is good
4.subframe cracking, will be costly to repair if already hasn't
Yeah you can dd m3 but you better have your budget savings if something goes wrong

What are your anons thoughts on getting a CPO M3 F80? It would be my first BMW and while I'd like an older M3, i'm kinda worried there will be massive issues later on that I could avoid with getting something still warranty. Any thoughts?

>>
>>17638045
not op, but have been daily'ing mine for a while. With ~$1k in performance mods, m3 suspension upgrades, and new tires it will feel glorious when it is in working condition. The maintenance isn't that bad if you get one with low mileage, just make sure to replace all your problem gaskets and problem cooling hoses every once in a while. All of the maintenance can be done by yourself easily and there are a ton of n54 markets that will sell parts for much cheaper than the dealership will offer you. The scariest reliability issue is the turbos. If you treat your car well it wont be an issue, however continued abuse and reluctance to inspect conditions can degrade them quickly.
>>

Mine is full bolt on with ~400bhp, and it is a great car and fantastic engine when it works.
Tuning them is great with mhd for the engine and xhp has been released on 2006 models for the trans.
They cannot be run on a budget though. I get it serviced every 6 months, Oil change 5k miles, shell v-power fuel only.
Luckily the previous owner had changed most of the common ancilliaries that go wrong on the n54: water pump, thermostat, coil packs etc.
Turbo, low and high pressure fuel pumps, abs pumps are common failures.
I spent a while looking for the right car and so should you.
E90 post is a great forum with huge amount of information and diy topics. I would head there first, get a ride in a mhd 2+ car and then make a decision.

The windows of my E32 are achtung up.
They go down automatically and all, but the right hand window only goes up if you hold the button down.
Even more so, if I tap the buttons to trigger the automatic rolling and proceed to open the sunroof, the windows freeze. Also can't roll up both the windows and close the roof at the same time.

For $3600 I assume you went to the stealer for a new pair? Because you could easily get a pair for under $1000

They're not that bad, it's just the projectors are horrible and like I said about the LEDs, they aren't powerful enough. pic related, was my e60
>>
>>17645686
Well some dude at a junkyard told me 800 each used or 1600 each new, I said no way

It doesn't make sense to spend that much when I can get a pair that work perfectly fine for $560

I didn't know what to do. I just stood there and tried to think if I heard correctly.

How could they justify $1500??? They even had the decency to call me back twice telling me they'd consider bumping it up to $2000 even after I basically told them to go fuck themselves the first time.

I was thinking of getting an early 90s E30. Either a 325is or 318is.
Does anyone have an opinion on these? I'm new to cars and know that these have always been a good entry car like, but I've always loved the boxy look. Are they too dated now though?

wiping off paste wax with a soft, clean cloth is one of the most satisfying feelings, the paint is so smooth it's awesome.
I recently bought a bottle of turtlewax leather cleaner/conditioner but it's not so useful because my 300k mile seats have begun to crack already.

I have the 09 coupe. Great car. Looks new enough normies are impressed. 303hp is pretty perfect for dd and track. Not that you can take the convertible. I have had one problem and that is the computer that runs the error codes is having errors and saying everything is broken. Which was easy fix but only the dealer could do it. I doubt you would have the same problem.

I've had no problem with the N54. Considering the $500 tune for 70 more HP to bring it up to speed with the M2

I've wanted a turbo E30 for a while now, but E30s have become so expensive. Would I be better off buying and modding an E30 325i or buying a nice E36 M3? Pic related, an E30 that I really like.

Varg (the owner of that E30) posts here sometimes. If he's around, he can probably give you some tips.
His car is fucking amazing, do you follow him on Instagram?

I'm also considering turboing my E30. I can source a manifold from a friend and I'm thinking just a small junkyard turbo from a Volvo or something. Just aiming for 250-300whp with good response.

how full retard am I for considering it as a daily

>>
>>17649080
It really depends on your capabilities and what you want from the car. Even a basic turbo E30 build will destroy E36 M3 in a drag race and with the kind of suspension and tires the car pictured has, it'll no doubt be faster in the corners too. But... you can buy a very clean E36 M3 for what it will cost to do a good turbo E30 build, if not less, and you won't have a modified car. Do you want to build something yourself and drive a modified car or do you want to buy something and keep it relatively stock? Also, would it be a weekend car or a daily? An E36 M3 is obviously better than a highly modified E30 as a daily driver.

>not so sure what's the difference
Well all I know is that sealant is made from chemicals like polymers and acrylic and it's designed to protect the paint as long as possible. Usually they don't give a brilliant shine like wax though but I found one that has a pretty good gloss, the catch is that it's $40 and I can get decent paste wax for $15
