Reposting from question from a previous thread.

This dude has a similar setup, fender eliminator (so no rear cargo hooks) and no passenger pegs. Should I just run the straps straight around the tail? Seems if I try to run them anywhere along the frame a bag would just slide forward, and running it through the swingarms is just dumb.
>>
>>17544490
Straps would be fine, make sure that they're tight, if you can get one around the bag attach it to the strap on the passenger seat so it doesn't jerk back and fall off
>>
>>17544490
thats what i did.

put some towel under the bag to not scratch the paint.

>>
>>17544518
Honestly just get a set of passenger pegs, they make life so much easier. Ill bet if you post on craigslist or a facebook group someone will give you thiers for near nothing. If the fronts straps hook good to those, you could just clip the back straps together under the bike.

Test rode a sprint and a firestorm today. Both give you lots of bike for ~3.5k.

sprint
>wide fairing for comfy allweather use
>quite nimble handling for this class of bike
>flexible motor with linear power curve
>sounds fucking sick
>DAT efi coldstart ability

firestorm
>quite small and light
>sounds incredibly fat with dual staintunes
>power willys
>quite easy to ride slow, although it's much rougher than the sprint
>shit fuel range
>probably bad to work on

Overall pretty interesting but I'm keeping my bandit.
>>
>>17544592

Well I mean the Sprint is more of a tourer so I'd expect it to be comfier and smoother, the Firestorm is more of a budget low fat sports bike. Engine is a largely detuned version of what you find in the RC51 so it's not really one for slow riding, hence why it's a bit choppy.

Daily reminder that traps aren't gay
>>
>>17544656

Traps are gay.
>>
>>17544657
sigh

traps are not gay. I repeat, traps ARE NOT GAY. How idiotic do you have to be to think that they are? traps are probably even less gay than some women.

I understand why some people MIGHT consider traps to be gay, but once thinking about it i don't know why people wouldn't change their mind. traps look like women. WOMEN ARE NOT GAY. IF YOU FUCK SOMEONE WHO LOOKS LIKE A WOMEN, HOW IS THAT EVEN SLIGHTLY FUCKING GAY?

I can kinda see why people think having a dick makes it gay, but the dick only makes up about 0.2% of the human body. if the rest of the body is feminine, that's 99.8% straight. let me repeat, 99.8% STRAIGHT, THAT'S EXTREMELY FUCKING STRAIGHT. THERE ARE WOMEN WHO ARE LESS THAN 99.8% FEMININE, YET PEOPLE DON'T CALL THEM GAY. If you wanna fuck a woman who looks manly as fuck, I'm not gonna call you gay, but you shouldnt call me gay for fucking traps either.

It makes no sense why people let a single penis ruin an entire sexual encounter, it's easy enough to ignore. Traps still have fuckable assholes, you don't need to fuck the pussy specifically. And if it's that much of a problem, just look away. He isn't gonna rub his dick on you or anything.

There are plenty of nice traps out there, and Im sure you'd get along well with them, but you choose not to because of something on them which takes up 0.2% of their body. It's nonsensical and stupid how worked up people get over something so small but completely ignore the rest of the body.

If you're worried about your friends knowing that you're fucking someone 0.2% masculine and 99.8% feminine, they don't need to find out. Believe it or not, traps can wear clothes too. They don't walk around with their dicks hanging out, they cover their dick with pants or skirts. Nobody has to find out that you're in a perfectly heterosexual relationship.

Reminder that being attracted to traps is not in any way gay:

http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayFulltext?type=6&fid=10017053&jid=PSM&volumeId=-1&issueId=-1&aid=10017052&fromPage=cupadmin&pdftype=6316268&repository=authInst#cjotab_

>Background
Gynandromorphophilia (GAMP) is sexual interest in gynandromorphs (GAMs; colloquially, shemales). GAMs possess a combination of male and female physical characteristics. Thus, GAMP presents a challenge to conventional understandings of sexual orientation as sexual attraction to the male v. female form. Speculation about GAMP men has included the ideas that they are homosexual, heterosexual, or especially, bisexual.

>Method
We compared genital and subjective sexual arousal patterns of GAMP men with those of heterosexual and homosexual men. We also compared these groups on their self-ratings of sexual orientation and sexual interests.

>Results
GAMP men had arousal patterns similar to those of heterosexual men and different from those of homosexual men.

>Conclusions
Results provide clear evidence that GAMP men are not homosexual.

I run them under the tail, around the plate, and run a couple down to the passenger peg brackets. If you have no passenger pegs, at least get some little eye loops on there so they're more useful to you. It's a handy tie dowm point. Also, replace your passenger seat with something more practical.

If I had a two part seat and knew a good fabricator mine would be a combined trunk carrier for an actual tail case and generic luggage rack.

If the chick didn't paint the frame pink, it's easy to fix properly or improperly.

Drive the price down then remove the pink bits, sand that shit off and spray bomb it flat black. Go ride.

I once owned a Suzuki I'd shot what was supposed to be blue but the paint mix went horribly wrong. I didn't care and rode it because it was my only transportation.

My bro and I were drinking heavily and he decided to incentivise a repaint by spraying dicks all over it in black. Not wanting a Suzuki with dicks, I joined him and we sprayed all the bodywork without masking or removing it.

I put 20,000 miles on it like that before it backfired and burned one day. (Backfire blew off a pod filter, fuck pods.)

Pods are inherently not very secure because unlike an air box they are only supported by a clamp on the carb bellmouth. They do nothing for flow and exist because memes or to replace ancient stock airboxes whose boots have hardened and shrunk.

Stock airboxes aren't pressure traps in a backfire because the box is considerably larger than the carb bellmouth.
>>
>>17545129
What if giant pods?

What if one giant megapod connected to several carbs?

What if that megapod had another filter layer inside it?

What if the outer layer was hard and had a big hole in it so you could control airflow better?

They get decent reviews and the drivetrain is bretty gud. Check on Triumph forums to see if any negatives have appeared now they've been in production a while.

>>17545761
Different frame design. BTW the Softail name and frame predate Harley's use by several years and was likely inspired by the Vincent rear suspension design but flipped upside down to get the shocks beneath the drivetrain. Not much is truly new.

In this case Triumph (in it's second corporate incarnation) is not copying Harley, but copying the (original Triumph) famous 6T and relatives but with a monoshock instead of a rigid frame or rigid frame with sprung hub.

It's not a copy of a chopper or anything American.

I'm more of a fully faired kind of guy, but there are aspects to cafes that look good.

the whole top is usually very copacetic and lies in one inline horizontal bar on the top of the bike with nothing protruding off the top of the bike like mirrors or handle bars, which cleans up the profile of the bike, the bike usually looks pretty low as a result which is a bit more aggressive and hunkered down looking. All the mechanical parts of the bike are on show, and who doesn't want to see all the expensive bits. Lastly for me is all of the negative space especially around the back of the bike, really makes them look lean and lithe.

Sounds like dragging rear caliper because caliper pistons sticking.

Put transmission in neutral. Raise rear wheel off ground. Open the caliper bleeder nipple the attempt to spin wheel by hand. If it's still stuck or drags strongly, caliper piston is usually sticking due to internal smegma buildup.

Disassemble and clean caliper. If you are careful you can often do it without damaging the caliper seals and dust boot but replacing them with factory parts is preferable.

See service manual and internet for how to clean and reseal calipers. Get all the old brake fluid out of the rest of the system by pumping fresh fluid through it.

Ensure piston surface is smooth, clean and without pitting which can occur due to entrained water in brake fluid.

chances are, the seals are fucked which is why there is enough buildup to seize the caliper in the first place.

i had a caliper that was so bad the piston and bore were both pitted. just one piston, so you didn't really notice until it got really, really bad.

The actual history of how motorcycles used to look is irrelevant. It is only a dictionary of "what kind of style people used to like", "what kind of styles were a mistake".
XSR900 does not look like an old motorcycle, it's not retro anywhere. The point is that it looks nice. And FZ09 does not. It's a fucking transformer.

I've done at least sixty caliper cleanings and rebuilds between my own and working at my bros shop, not counting many car and truck calipers. I inspect them before buying seals. Some were as hideous as your description.

If the piston and bore have problems a clean used caliper off Ebay is a cheap, easy fix. Bore isn't usually a big deal since the piston actually rides on the seal, but there's no practical repairing a pitted steel or iron piston because the chrome plating is damaged.

Seal failure isn't typically what caused buildup which normally happens from the inside out. Lack of use allows the pistons to sit in one spot for an extended amount of time then moisture in fluid and atmospheric intrusion under the dust boot (which are isn't swept when the bike sits) attacks the metal while smegging the fluid residue.

Brake fluid loves moisture but few vehicle owners pay attention to it. I use a cheap plastic turkey baster to remove old fluid from master cylinders before bleeding with fresh fluid to flush the system.

Let them have civil unions but don`t call it marriage. They are genetic dead ends. I can`t even begin to put my hate for them into words.

It doesn't stick if I pull the brake pedal up by hand.

It will lock the wheel (bike on a rear stand) if I press it down and it won't return back up. I bled the brakes last night too to see if that would do it.

I'll keep it simple and spray the brake pedal pivots with silicone spray first to see if that does it, then take the caliper off the bike and check out the pistons if that's it.

Is resealing calipers difficult? I know I had a friend of mine advising me against cracking open the calipers on this bike (gold Nissin monoblocks off a 03-04 CBR600RR) when I had issues before (difficult to put back together correctly on first try without leaks)? Or should I just shop for a good known used rear caliper?

I've posted before, I'm the guy with the carbed SV650 that's had a ton of issues and was already looking for a new bike. I fixed the front brakes last night (rebuilt MC and bled out it fully, now I have awesome lever feel).

Patched clubs are best avoided completely because politics. I was in an MC many years ago and they are basically for people with no family or willing to put theirs beneath the club family. Three piece clubs are the are the only social group where it's cool to be an ex-con (assuming you are otherwise amenable to club rules and a standup guy). If you aren't born into that life then it's IMO not worth the sacrifices. When you no longer had to be a mechanic to ride a motorcycle the bike world was diluted and commoditized, but it's much better to be a motorcyclist today. A biker, not so much because every wannabe saw Sons of Assbanditry and wants to play too. I wish the next batch of "outlaws" would switch to scooters...

RCs wish they were MCs or they wouldn't cosplay them by wearing a patch and other gear long functionally obsolete for riding. MCs are feeders for and subordinate to regional one percenter dominant clubs. (It is extremely undiplomatic to ever mention this in person and they'll deny it to anyone not in the group.) None of the above care what you do if you aren't in their social space.

Clubs/groups/associations not affiliated with the "biker" world are plentiful but less visible.

Silicone isn't that great but you can troubleshoot a bit more.

If you open the bleeder nipple then the rear caliper is no longer a player and you can depress the pedal to see if it still sticks. If it sticks you can lube the pedal pivot, work the pedal back and forth (bleeder closed so you don't ejaculate brake fluid everywhere) and see if the problem is solved.

Also check the return spring per the other posters advice. They rarely break.

Front and rear master cylinders have tiny holes which can be blocked by corrosion. Ensure yours isn't. You can remove the rear master cap and use a bright light to see fluid or air moving through the hole as you cycle the pedal. You may get a slight squirt to the face from trapped air or rapid return so cup your hand over it the first few times. You'll feel and see if it tends to squirt back, which is no cause for alarm. You can use a small stiff wire to poke the hole. No paper clips though as they are usually too wide. I use a small pin or sewing needle.

SV forums likely have pics and more detailed threads. There isn't much to a back brake but it's nice to see photos.

I've seen some riders in a 3 piece MC vest that has a patch saying "support your local Outlaws."

My bad for not refreshing and noticing no spring on the Vortex rearsets. Ignore the springy bit. Ensure pedal pivot moves easily. If not, remove, grease lightly and reinstall.

You can sometimes loosen up a caliper without taking it apart by removing it and pushing the pistons in with a clamp or clamps (you need to push both at once) after cracking the bleeder valve.

I picked up some nice used SV calipers off Ebay to adapt to my old Harleys and saw plenty of clean ones for cheap. You should try to do yours for the experience and if no workee then just get another caliper. I got mine with good used pads and braided stainless lines still attached.
