Faggots on /out/ try to give states "scores" on their "/out/ potential". Higher score = better state for /out/ activities, lower score = worse state. It's a pretty terrible map tbqhwy
>>
>>17506912
So every 650 twin and 900 triple in a standard chassis is...what? Are you dense son? This is the best time ever for the exact bike you are fucking asking about.
>>

It's a massive nearly untouched wilderness half the size of the continental US. It's literally /out/ heaven.

>>17506915
The plain states are literal 0s, those high numbers are mountain states. All the 1s on the east coast are very urban, small states. The more /out/ ish ones to the south are rated higher
>>
>>17506921
Bears, not many "minorities", deep woods
That's it, everything else sucks.
Bugs that are the size of bluejays, cold and humid weather, people wandering the woods with cabin/gold fever. I had to shoot at one who pulled a gun on me and accused me of trying to jump his claim and steal his gold. The non city parts are basically a time machine that makes people insane.
>>
>>17506912
There are, just not in the US.

Anything that isn't a cruiser or a sport bike might as well not be brought over because they just won't sell, Americans are that vapid.

Any standards we're lucky enough to get will be vehemently declared a """"""""naked sport"""""""" and given aggressive styling. (see: European cb500 vs. American cb500f)

I would literally suck a million dicks to have a cb1300 but I'll never even see one

Bears are awesome.

That's pretty much it.
I got really lucky and got a grizzly tag, went on a hunt, the guide warned is that's there was people in the area mining and some get a little strange when they are in the woods for months at a time. It's even worse when they have been there for years. We were riding (horseback) to the hunting area along a river and some dude was out there panning. He saw us and our rifles, he freaked out and shouted about how we weren't gonna take his gold and pulled a pistol. I had my rifle already ready and shot a couple feet in front of and to the right of him. He was splashed with some rock and dirt and dropped his gun. The guide explained that we weren't there for him and he apologized and said we were the first people he had seen in almost a year.

Ive got a question about rebuilding my motor. So I installed some new piston rings in order to fix the compression, and now have the head bolted down (without the cams in). When I turn the crankshaft over by hand, there is some resistance (I assume from the air compressing) that isnt felt when the head is mounted.

Esentially, after this resistance, there is a hissing of air escaping the cylinders. Is this normal or do i need to rebuild it again??

Being hot as fuck and going outside to try to do stuff in that head is fucking terrible. It's much easier to regulate body temperature in moderate to cold environments while doing hiking or strenuous activity than it is when its 110* fucking degrees outside.

Also, the hotter it is the more water you need to consume and thus the more water you must carry.

That said, that map has California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah all highly ranked. Literally the hottest states in the U.S.

You're a fucking idiot.

I used to commute exclusivly on a powerful sportbike because that's all i knew.

Then I bought a light fun lower powered commuter bike and it opened an entire world of exploration and fun that I hadn't known and could not know being locked down with a narrowly focused and impractical "powerful bike".

Now the sportbike only sees ride time when I specifically want to take it to the twisties or go haul ass on the highway. Literally everywhere else the smaller bike is more fun despite having 1/4 the power.

Endless twisties. Over two days I probably road easily 100 miles and a few hours of 10-50mph twisties.
>>
>>17507914
I'm already a nervous wreck with the throttle. I try not to do it so much, if anything I haven't used it at all, staying in first gear while practising clutch take -offs and braking properly.
>>
>>17507918
Nice, enjoy it. It definitely looks nice, just haven't heard much about it.
>>
>>17507931

I just don't dig the FZ. The handlebars feel awkward to me. I'm a bigger guy though and I've always owned super sports in the past.

I refuse to buy a Triumph because Yammie Noob ruined it for me.
>>
>>17507853
Why not just get a normal 600 like a cbr or ninja? I wouldn't even bother with a FZ lower than the 8
>>
>>17507957
How many schmeckles it run you for?
>>
>>17507945
Keep the revs low (as in the 3-6k range) and a 600 shouldn't suddenly accelerate like a bat out of hell. Some bikes are a bit twitchy when you transfer from closed throttle to slightly open, so be really gentle mainly in that area.
>>
>>17507964

just over 11k with TTL and a new Shoei/Sena 20. Also, Kawi has a promotion right now and I'm getting a free riding jacket in the mail soon.
>>
>>17507959
The FZ6 is a normal 600, just comfier (and uglier), the fz6r is trash. And the fz8 is the worst fz wtf are you on about
>>
>>17507937
I did that on my cx500 two years ago a week into ownership. Absolutely epic experience.

>>17507957
Fair enough. I'm not a big dude so the fz6 ergos are on point.

>>17507945
It couldn't hurt to get an sv650 got when you actually start going on it. The fz has a fucked torque curve, and a fairly snatchy throttle
>>
>>17507980
Fz6r < fz8. At least the fz8 has a fast ish motor and decent suspension.
>>
>>17507978

The z900 has the same engine as the z1000, but it's sleeved down to 948cc and tuned for low end. It's also lighter than the z800 due to the new trellis frame.

Just sit on both. Fz09 feels more like a giant supermoto, wheres the z900 you sit in it a bit more like a supersport. Ive done 15 hour days on my fz with no issues, and the Fz09 is a bit cheaper I think. Also you get TC/ABS with a '17 fz09 and its lighter.

They are both still good bikes.

>>
>>17508267
Yeah I think maneuvering it around to park would suck in a lot of places since it's so hilly around me. Even the shed at my house is in a really awkward spot.
As much as I love my dual sport, there's piss all for offroading and nowhere safe to ride supersports fast so I'm thinking some kind of sport tourer, Africa Twin, or FZ07. Not really sure, I'll have to do test rides but I just want something comfy on the highway so I can ride better parts of my state rather than wasting weekends putting around my town.
Single cyls don't like sustained high rpm's, I don't want to have checking my oil every gas stop on my mind.

I ride a cheap, reliable machine with a smooth engine and tight cornering. It gets 75+ mpg, and doesn't complain whether it's carrying a full camping trip, my amazon girlfriend, or a stock-up day in rice, flour, sugar, charcoal, and entire sides of animal flesh.

I have a running 1977 Yamaha XS750.
Has the infamous 2nd gear slip but you can fix it yourself even if you're mechanically retarded in a few hours.
Needs new tires, and turn signal bulbs.
I got it to teach my girlfriend how to ride and was going to cafe racer it, but I have too many other bike projects.
I'll sell it to you for $1,300
>>
>>17508532
Because there aren't 20 other options in that category and price bracket.

Anything else you get is going to be north of $10,000 and probably have a shittier motor and eurobong reliability issues (see striple).

The pre-2017 FZ09's suspension could be easily sorted pretty well with a $60 ZX-6R shock off ebay.

The new ones come already sorted out.
>>

He'll take $800 for it. If your budget is $2000 you could easily get it in great shape for a few hundred more at most.

>If it could be fixed in a couple hours you would have fixed it by now

Geometry. You've obviously never ridden one long enough to settle in correctly.
>>17508578
On the same note, ride aggressively for 40 minutes, then look down. The most natural place to grip the tank will just emerge by itself.
Most modern bikes have cutouts to guide, older ones used rubber pads.
No idea why bare paint and smooth tanks became so popular in-between..
The backstop works for some, but good knee-grip is more important.

You wanna move on the seat so about a palm-space between your balls and the tank is preferable.

You dont need to grip all that tight if you learn to "lean" into the force of acceleration, shoulders should always be relaxed, the nost tense part is your core.
>>
What's the sticker that anons put on their bikes and started dying?
I can never remember what it looked like.
>>
>>17508740
Usually second. First is way too touchy on my bike, I end up with the front tire all over the place and 3rd lacks the torque.
>>
>>17508746
yeah I get the wheel up without even needing the clutch in first, shits too much for a noob like me

probably will end up trying second around what? 15-20mph?
>>
>>17508740
Most bikes with enough torque can power willie in second if you shift it right (wrong). WOT in first, chop throttle, shift into second, WOT.

Except mine. It pops out of second when you do that. My fault.

>trying to clutchless shift, day one after getting bike
>GRRRRRRRRRK

I wonder if that can be fixed without pulling the engine and splitting it? Probably not.

Dump clutch at zero throttle and go WOT shortly after, I guess it's timed so you're opening the throttle JUST as the clutch is almost fully engaged.

It's kind of halfway between a clutchup and a power wheelie. And if my bike were not 520lbs and long as fuck, it would probably loop instead of bouncing 6" off the ground.

Fuck I need a dual sport for this shit
>>
>>17508772

If there's anything to get sick of, it's having mind blowing power at your disposal and an engine that begs to be revved for more, but also knowing all to well that your tires, and your riding skills, aren't up to the task if you misjudge that next corner while gunning it, or have to swerve into the inside because some dumbfuck is stopped in his lane in a blind corner and you're leaned damn near all the way over due to the speed you were carrying.

That last one happened to me. If I hadn't broken away from traffic before the corner I would have had nowhere to swerve and definitely couldn't have braked in time. No idea how I survived, but my chicken strips got a little smaller that day.

I honestly wish America had a system like that. I wouldn't pin the restrictions to 125cc, but probably a combination of displacement, weight and horsepower. Set to like an average 500cc sport bike's power and weight. Heavier cruisers and dual sports might for example be set at say...650.

Are my fears unfounded? Do I just spray it with chain lube and that's it?
>>
>>17509087
I'd set it based on class OR displacement.

So you can buy a 600+, but it must not be a supersport, maybe a DS/standard/sport-standard. If you want a bike classed as a supersport, you buy a 250/500. This would also create a market for japanese 400cc sportbikes, possibly a massive market if the full license was hard enough to get/not worth it, meaning we could get some premium fuel-sipping four cyllinder corner munchers instead of budget twins with linkage-free rear suspensions.

It only brain damages kids

So, personally, if I ever know of someone burning leaded gas on public roads on a regular basis, I find their vehicle and disable at as thoroughly as possible. A kid doesn't deserve a life of stupidity and mental health because of some beta faggot. This is pretty easy with motorcycles, since the oil filler cap and drain plug RIGHT THERE. Just get yourself some sodium sillicate and water. Takes less than a minute. Harder on fully faired bikes, but what fully faired bike runs lead? Not many.

I haven't had a reason to do this yet, but I keep about 5qts of the solution and one of those small walmart drain pan/storage bottle combos handy.

And, even then, I'm sure there are better methods. Maybe just putting it in the oil is enough, or if you have a long enough drill bit and a good angle, you can put holes in the airbox below where the filter likely is and wait.

The AT can tour but it is lousy at touring. Versus all the big "off-road" touring bikes it is more leaning towards "real offroad" from gearing and relatively flat comfortable but not sporty power delivery to the fucking huge suspension and short wheelbase. Riding the AT long distances highway is not a problem but it's not the best highway rig you could have and all you think about is hitting dirt roads. The steering and control is incresible. When you are on it you will forget how big it is, which compared to other bikes in the ADV cat it's not even big.

How can you even be that bad at riding?
>>
>>17509770
Unless he gets rear-ended while doing more than the speed limit in the right hand lane of a highway, he's always at least partially at fault for not riding defensively and anticipating other people's studpidity.
>better idea to crash on purpose
Plastic on asphalt doesn't brake as good as rubber on asphalt. If you can't brake quickly enough, there is no scenario where "laying her down" is a good idea.
TL;DR he's making excuses, tell him to own up to his mistakes.
>>
>>17509770
>have accident because of someone in front
>blaming it on them

You're almost always responsible for hitting the rear of someone. Only if they like pull out right in front of you from a blind corner, you weren't speeding at all and reacted in an adequate manner, had the right of way AND you can prove it, can you get them to pay.
>>
>>17509800
There is literally no reason to ever choose to crash and you are an idiot if you think there is.

Bikes stop pretty damn fast if you're half compentant, and you can always lane split or ride on the shoulder in an emergency evasion. Its a motorcycle, not a frieght train on two wheels.

But never a situation where you have to crash. At least not on pavement. It can be better on dirt, when you're looking at hitting the bush or hitting a tree, crash so you hit the tree.
