Woooo. After a terrible weekend of trying to fix my crx, it's finally done. What started as changing spark plug well seals quickly turned into a nightmare. Finally got that my valves were maladjusted when I put the rocker arm assy back on. Had to have a shop adjust it as I wasn't sure that was the issue. The thing is, when I got it back from them, the dist took a shit. Just replaced that myself and the car is back in action. Question for ya'll tho, when I took it in, it had the 2 grounds coming from the valve cover (pic related). But now, it only has one ground, and I checked the service manual, and apparently that's normal. Do you all know if that's how it's supposed to be?
>>
>>17505671
Yeah they do a bunch of Honda bits too but I think they do way more Toyota stuff. Gonna run water in the car for now when I put it back together. When I know it's fixed, I'll run Water Wetter. All the people who run their Hondas hard use it with great results.

At the very least, I'm gonna fix the wheel and headlight if I have to, I just want to get it back on the road, the rotor is making a scraping noise and it's fucking stanced a little.

I thought it was horribly wrecked because the fender liner flew out and plastic headlight shit was everywhere, but it doesn't look that bad, this is possibly the best outcome, don't want the insurance company saying it was my ass because I swerved and crashed my own car.

Sweet, I don't know anything about suspension, but the strut wasn't jiggling around and it was tight, tire somehow held air with a bent rim, I drove it up the driveway from the towtruck and it was running fine.
>>

90% of the work I've done on my car is suspension unfortunately so I know a little bit about it. kek

Just pop the wheel off and see if anything looks bent or wobbles when it's not supposed to. It may even just be the brake dust shield rubbing on the rotor.

The scenario for me was that I was on a back country road with lots of tight, blind corners. The guy behind me kept going faster and faster and wouldn't let me slow down. As we came up to a really bad hairpin, we were going about five miles per hour above the speed limit. The guy started to take the outer line and I tried to turn hard to avoid hitting him. I started to understeer, but I took my foot off the accelerator and corrected the understeer. Unfortunately I started to oversteer and that I couldn't correct. I went over the side of the road into a deep, steep ditch and had it not been for the trees I would be dead right now, because after the treeline, there's a 1-200 foot drop. The guy stopped for a second, yelled "you're fucked" and sped off. The thicket tore off my mirror, destroyed my right front headlight, severely crumpled my right fender and rear right quarter, tore my bumpers out of location, bent my door and hood, and scratched the paint on my rear wing. It may have slightly damaged my wheel well. The internal workings of my car, the glass, the wheels, and the tires seem to be fine, though.

I tried slowing down and when I did he kept going the same speed, but just got closer to my rear bumper, almost touching it. He was driving a little over the center line so even if I did straight-up stop or try to go to the other side, he would have still been behind me. I tried to slow when he started to go around me, but by that point the curve was starting and we were going around 50-55 miles per hour (keep in mind, the recommended speed limit is 15 around that corner). He was driving a black compact with a badge that looked like a Toyota or a scion

I can do other shit but I can't do body work and have it look good. It's just one of those cases where I'll have to get it fitted by someone. I still need to swap out the AC pump too, and the crank pulley is wobbling so I might end up replacing that too at some point.

Just been hella busy :c

so much work has been done to it, engine seals, spark plug wires, gaskets, I sat there and cleaned all the parts of the power steering pump when resealing/rebuilding that, and just scrubbed shit

Mine could use a good scrubbing but other than that it's running great. Never done valves but I need to learn how to do them. Seems easy enough. Aside from a few head gaskets (my fault) it has treated me well these last 70,000 miles at least.
>>
>>17520641
the valves really aren't that hard.

I got a valve adjustment tool for honda cars, an odd looking thing.

You need some really precise feeler gauges for feeling the clearance between the cam lobes and the shit underneath when the car's cranked so the valves aren't open

the intake and exhaust ones are different based on the car

mine's a DOHC so I adjusted 16 total valves, checking clearance for each one.

immediately after, the car wasn't nearly as choppy in the high end when VTEC engaged. I thought it was worthwhile considering the age.

And there were like a billion oil leaks so I just meticulously scrubbed everything clean when doing engine work. I think I'd end up being the dude with the project car where everything looks brand new, because I get a lot of satisfaction from seeing something well maintained and clean.
>>
>>17520701
I haven't noticed any choppiness but I figured they'd at least need some kind of inspection considering all the miles I've done. My SOHC has 16 of them as well. Amazingly no leaks after all this time but it burns very slowly which is just a Honda thing I'm not worried about.
>>
>>17520725
yeah my car burns oil

I don't know how old your car is but mine probably needed the tightening of the valves.

I really need the money for a second project car because this is my daily driver. All the performance related things done to it have been minor and reasonable.

I want a car I can push hard. I'm a software dev professionally, so it'd be cool building and tuning a car proper, with disregard to noise and practicality

I feel like I have at least a decently good taste and coming from a software background, I want to write some code and modify the software running on the car. Only possible on a track/side car

cont.

online tuning communities focus so much on finding maps to modify to squeeze as much power as they can out of the car, reverse engineering the engine control units of the car to find the code and tables.

but it often relies on disassembling the existing code in the engine control system, adding patches and hacks to get better or different functionality.

I read about some of the patch mods people do to cars in some niche sports car communities and they seem like hacks from a software standpoint.

It'd be cool to be able to patch in flex fuel support or tune switching and have it work as if the car was built for it

maybe I'm totally fucking nuts but some of the aftermarket ECUs have the source code, and it's not unfamiliar territory for me

I've yet to look at tuning stuff but I know the options are limitless. I'm probably gonna go with Crome to keep my Hondash app working. Hondata or others that don't modify the original Honda firmware won't work with the app. Makes me wonder if there are tunes that can be used for MPG purposes.
>>
>>17520829
idk the fact that you can't really fuck with a honda without a piggyback makes me sad, but once the money comes in I'll prob look more into a megasquirt or something because those look like the shit

Thanks for the suggestions, although Integra and RSX are way above shitboxes, atleast price wise in my area (europe)
I think I might go for either CRX/del sol or prelude, but I'm not sure if it wouldn't be a better choice for a Toyota if for speed
>>
>>17520848
Hondata seems to be the go to tuning option as far as I know. Crome is the cheaper more accessible one but it just needs some soldering into the ECU board. I don't hear much about Megasquirt in Hondas. Everyone seems to run Hondata.
>>
>>17520860
>Everyone seems to run Hondata.
yeah what I'm saying is, even that has its limitations, where a full replacement ECU you'd configure from nothing might be more work on a side car, you get far more flexibility when you can edit the actual functionality of the ECU, not necessarily tune by changing the calibration tables

I'm just so glad the car I bought is finally becoming the car I want it to be

I saw this picture, and since my car isn't exactly the coolest color (I always kinda wished it was black or white) it was surprising even the green I have can be done right and look, at least in my opinion, very well done. This car (not mine) is kinda inspiring, makes me excited to see when mine has a similar aesthetic.

Same here. I wouldn't get enough to beat the sentimental value of the over 2 years of memories I've had with it so far. If anything I'd get a second EG with a clean body to put all my good parts into and keep this one as a D15 Ecomodder build or something. Would be pretty cool.

>>
>>17520857
I'm not sure, but out of these probably CRX is the best for tuning, but if our budget is so low that you can't even afford Integra, then the only CRX you will get are going to be half in rust.
if you can't find a clean CRX out should just go for MR2 if you want speed
don't go for either prelude if you want tuning

Thinking of selling my del sol.

It was my first project car, and the idea was to get the highest (power/weight) / $ I could with my skillset

( 2300 pounds / 313 whp ) / $11,000 (including purchase price)

Its very good at going in a straight line down the freeway, which is what its designed for, buts is next to unusable anywhere else.
>>
>>17522295
lol dude...by "service light" you dont mean that little red thing on the speedo, do you? That is mileage based and turns from green to red about every 5k miles or so to remind you to go to honda and give them money....if you look in the bottomish left of your pic you can see where that rectangle starts...you push that in with a key or pen or whatever and it turns back to green.

a check engine light is a different story. if he thinks that "service light" means something is wrong with his car, then buttfuck him for being stupid and buy that car cheap. I love my turbo prelude, you wont regret buying a BB6.

everything I've seen about b-series is that you can get 300 at the crank with stock internals with a b16, but it'll be alot of boost for that high of a compression ratio.

I completely rebuilt my d16 with different size pistons and different length rods to get 8.1:1 CR

cant speak for the transmission

I run crome on my shit.
It's free, you can tune it with a wideband using logging, and its really easy. Gold roms have a lot of features.

Aftermarket ECUs are typically shit for getting the car to run well except for WOT. Honda ECUs have extremely good quality injector drivers and hardware in general. Honda ECUs also have the best ELD/alternator control in the game.

I know you feel like mr badass programmer but in reality theres no reason to be a cowboy about it when other people did all of the work for you.

Also since someone asked, you can tune a car for mpg no problem
>>

I think the court here works differently. There were no deals being given but it was a full to the brim courtroom so they were handing out trial dates to those that wanted a chance at a deal I guess. It was either guilty and pay the fine with no deals or not guilty and have a trial 3 months from now. It was a no brainer for me and most others.

>after forever and a half, judge finally shows up along with the DA
>they state that since there are so many people, they're gonna go through the people with lawyers first then the rest of us one by one with only guilty/not guilty charges
>not guilty will get a trial date like three months from now
>I was waiting for my name for four fucking hours straight

So, 2000 Si guy here again. Car's totaled, but I'm holding onto it. Only really needs the fender, door, and rear right quarter replaced, so shouldn't be too much of a financial hit. >>17524346
If I had either of those names I'd totally want a name change. Aside from the long ass wait it wasn't too bad. I got a date for the other ticket next month but I wanna just take both tickets to a lawyer and have him do his thing to make them as cheap as possible and maybe skip my record.

I spent a lot of the time waiting just guessing the charges on the people before it was stated by the DA.
